We need registration. They will only do it if there is a real problem. Ok, so I will create a real problem then. And there is nothing you can do about it. So I suggest you all DEMAND registration or else I won’t stop, and rest assured I’m not the only one doing this, it just so happens that I’m tech savy and ip blocking won’t stop me as I can get aroun that with an ip proxy.

So please, if u enjoy this community, DEMAND registration for I won’t stop until it’s done.

    Peace!

    Repost:

I just can’t believe someone has gone to such great lengths to pretend to be regular posters on here. Not only are they posting under their handles, but they obviously know their style of typing/conversation well enough that they can do really good impersonations.

This kinda makes me think its an inside job!! Which of the regulars that has disappeared/posted more sporadically over the last month or two could it be? Can we create a Clue game around finding the impostor?

  3. Erica in NY May 28th, 2010 at 1:08 pm

    Shame Spencer-

I really just don’t understand the point of pretending to be someone else.

  4. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:08 pm

Wow.. I can’t believe I might be almost right and some former regulars have gotten so fed up with the trolls/nonsense on this board that they have taken to imitating other posters.

    Is this real life??

  5. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Erica (assuming this is really you), we are of one mind on this issue. But really, whoever is doing it must be VERY familiar with the boards and posters on LoHud. Thats the part that makes this so crazy. They are impersonating people.. extremely, extremely well.

  6. vinny-b (Brett Gardner will never see the bench again) May 28th, 2010 at 1:09 pm

if it means quality posters like SJ44 and others leaving, then yes i would definitely demand registration.

Awesome — Yanks not on Fox or ESPN all weekend.

I guess playing the Indians has its upside.

What gives you the impression that Vlad will be available? Sure looks like Texas will be competitve to the end this season.

    Its me. I swear.

I e-mailed Jeff the IT guy this week when I was frustrated. He swore to me this has been a hot topic and they are trying to figure something out

  12. vinny-b (Brett Gardner will never see the bench again) May 28th, 2010 at 1:13 pm

I don’t know what outfit was better, Venus at the Australian Open, or at the French.

  13. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 1:13 pm

    Shame

The imposters are not “impostering” well at all. The impostering is as believable as ESPN and FOX not having an anti-Yankee bias.

  14. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Maybe SJ finally lost it. Or what about Trisha in the atrium with the candlestick? Betsy hasn’t been around in a while when I’ve been on lately.. could she be the impostor (yes, I’m gonna keep spelling it like the Brits, so sue me)?

  15. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 1:15 pm

    Erica

What is Jeff IT guy’s email address? Is there a link to it?

  16. Imposter May 28th, 2010 at 1:16 pm

    Erica -

Then Jeff and their team are a bunch of incompetent, mediocre morons.

Out to lunch, enjoy the quiet waters for a while

  17. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:16 pm

CR9 – unfortunately, you seem to be this impostors main target as far as abuse. He/She has seemed to impersonate other posters fairly well and when it comes time for your turn they really tip their hand by being many things I cannot type here out of respect for Chad and Sam.

Registration has been brought up for (literally) years now on the blog. I keep forgetting why they don’t do it though. I think its because of the newspaper.. but I can’t be sure.

  18. Erica in NY May 28th, 2010 at 1:18 pm

    CR9-

He has posted before. You can search the archives for it

  19. vinny-b (Brett Gardner will never see the bench again) May 28th, 2010 at 1:19 pm

    Chad, Sam, Jeff:

put me on record, for formally demanding registration for the blog.

    thanks.

  20. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Hey vinny b – maybe Doreen can keep track of that too! lol

  21. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

I’ll see if I can get his whole address.

  22. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

    Vinny

Is that really you talking about Venus at the Australian/French?

If so, I dont remember her Australian outfit. But she is quite a designer. Her French kit was extraordinary.

  23. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Im too lazy to go searching for it! Oh, well!

  27. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:24 pm

Ah!! Finally, I’ve been impostored! 1:21 isn’t me CR9. I have no plans to help you find his address ;)

  28. THE TRUTH May 28th, 2010 at 1:24 pm

Hated the Winn signing then and I hate it now. Especially considering that for only 3$ million more we could have bought Matsui back, or for 4.5$ million bought Damon back.

Cash had a thing for Winn for years, I think that played into bringing him here and sort of blinded him to Winn’s deficiencies.

  29. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 1:24 pm

All I know is, a LONG time ago, Pete allowed Steve Lombardi to post on here, and disallowed anyone else from using his handle, “Steve Lombardi,” iirc.

I dont understand why that cant be done again.

“Registration has been brought up for (literally) years now on the blog. I keep forgetting why they don?t do it though. I think its because of the newspaper.. but I can?t be sure.”

IMO–Gannett Media does not host this blog as a service to Yankee fans, but as a for-profit enterprise. As such, the quality of the posts/hits here are meaningless to them. It would seem the most effective way to prompt some form of action would be a massive boycott for some period of time. As long as we all keep viewing, they have no incentive to implement registration–despite the protests from us, Chad, Sam, or Jeff.

  34. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 1:27 pm

That was the headline on the back of the Sunday Daily News back in ’68. The subhead was, ‘I just can’t hit anymore’. I’ll never forget it, broke my little heart.

  44. Irreverent Discourse May 28th, 2010 at 1:32 pm

  51. The Real Me May 28th, 2010 at 1:38 pm

Whoever is doing it, it looks like they might have had a beef w/SJ44 at one point.

They seem to be working hard to get under his skin.

He/she is also playing off peoples’ strong desire to hold onto their handles.

You have to let go sometimes to be free.

registration is a 15 second deterrent that won’t stop… anything.

… but by all means, keep acting like a child. this will never bite you back in life. ever.

  56. G. Love May 28th, 2010 at 1:39 pm

    Billy,

I think the Rangers pitching won’t hold up and they’ll drop back to the pack. Their starting pitching is CJ Wilson, Colby Lewis, Harden and Scott Feldman. Wilson and Lewis are pitching above their heads right now. That rotation isn’t deep.

I think the Angels will find themselves back on top by a big margin once that team settles into itself after all the changes they made.

The Rangers also have the issue of their financial situation. They were supposed to have been sold by now, but that appears to have hit a snag.

This means the Rangers will not be buyers. Any talk of them acquiring Oswalt is a fantasy due to their ownership/financial situation.

I think MLB is basically guaranteeing the Rangers payroll as a financial backer of sorts in case the current owner defaults.

If their sale isn’t complete and they are falling out of the race I could see them look to drop payroll by trading a guy like Vlad who can net them more young cheap pitching talent.

That said, if they hold on to first place they won’t trade anyone. But I just don’t think the starting pitchers I mentioned above are going to keep them in the race in that ball park in the thick of the summer heat in Texas.

PS: I have never offended CR9 or anybody else for that matter.

  67. Random Name Generator May 28th, 2010 at 1:44 pm

that is some bizarre logic there:

I was mugged, therefore, I’m going to mug the hell out of everyone until mugging is abolished, once and for all!

  68. Tom in NJ May 28th, 2010 at 1:46 pm

  70. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:47 pm

Yeah there is definitely someone out for CR9. I’d feel bad for the guy if I thought he was ever truly offended by that nonsense.

And us changing our handles isnt much of a solution. The whole idea of a handle is you know who you are talking to and if all the regulars started changing them around it might be hard to know who you’re talking to (though I could see how the argument could be made we have no idea about that now either with the impostor running rampant). Maybe we should try variations of our handles that are similar enough that we’d know each other? We’d have to constantly be changing them though..

  71. Shame Spencer May 28th, 2010 at 1:48 pm

    1:46, not the true Shame.

  72. G. Love May 28th, 2010 at 1:48 pm

It seems like we’re seeing more posts about registration than actual troll posts.

If someone is playing “impostor” in order to force the blog owner into registration that is just stupid. That’s the wrong way to go about it.

We’ve asked for it in the past and they’ve declined.

The only thing that could possibly change their mind is if this place turned into a ghost town.

The newspaper isn’t going to pay someone to police the blog and they aren’t going to let regular posters who may act irrationally police it for them.

This is what is. If you’re a regular you can keep posting and ignore the trolls or you can leave and make a statement that way.

I think the trolls get so much attention in here it encourages them to keep doing this everyday.

The only solution is for someone to start a message board with registration independent of this blog. But after a few weeks of the same 20-25 people talking to themselves in there it might get stale, not to mention that kind of environment won’t be updated with news like this one.

  73. Pat M. May 28th, 2010 at 1:48 pm

As for Vlad, beware of the following:

.385 avg, 1.100 OPS at home
.268 avg, .726 OPS everywhere else

  83. Flim Flam May 28th, 2010 at 1:53 pm

It’s extremely subversive, and there doesn’t seem to be an easy solution.

I think the biggest problem is that, like “Imposter” suggests, there are several posters who have gone ‘rogue’. Therefore, you may be able to piece together clues from the writing style to identify that one individual, but someone will likely just take his place.

To throw your fellow LoHudders under the bus like this just for the sake of registration seems heartless. Seriously, most of these people seem like genuinely good folks. There has to be a better way.

  84. mick May 28th, 2010 at 1:54 pm

If there were a boycott, the imposters would win.

registering to post a stupid comment is absolutely enough of a deterrent for 90% of the morons/trolls.

Every forum in existance has trolls, sports forums especially. You’re thinking of most trolls as rational actors, which they aren’t. Logically no one is going to waste 15 seconds of their life registering to troll a sports forum, but fans of opposing sports teams most definitely will.

Not to mention that 75% of the ‘regulars’ on this blog have shown they can’t handle trolling. That makes them more inviting targets.

  95. Flim Flam May 28th, 2010 at 2:03 pm

The biggest problem I have w/other boards is the constant quoting.

It seems to be endless boxes of quotes within quotes withing quotes, just so the person can add an ‘lol’ or some other such inane comment.

You spend the majority of your time scrolling down, trying to avoid reading the same comment that’s been quoted to death.

This board has the right type of flow, imo.

  96. Patrick May 28th, 2010 at 2:03 pm

  112. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos May 28th, 2010 at 2:10 pm

There have always been trolls here.

What’s new is the impostering, which is more disruptive because you can’t be sure who you’re having a conversation with. So you stop having conversation. Trolls are easily ignored. It usually takes a couple of back-and-forths with an imposter before you realize you’ve been made a fool of – something most people don’t like, including me.

Registration will not get rid of strong opinions, differences of opinion and it will not get rid of personality conflicts.

Impostering is not going to accomplish what you’re ultimately setting out to do, which is to control the flow of conversation on the board.

I seriously do not understand why it is so difficult to ignore that with which you do not agree. Just scroll past. Do not engage in bickering. If you don’t like someone or their opinions, no one is forcing you to read what they have to say or have any discourse with them. Turn the other cheek as much as you can if someone starts to attack you personally. By engaging them, you empower them and encourage them and worse, others, to do the same.

It’s a large group of people here. Not everyone is going to agree with each other, not everyone is going to like each other’s blog personalities. I can’t say enough – you have to ignore that which you don’t like, or take the chance that this nonsense is going to drive away the people who helped to establish this as one of the best places to spend time with other Yankees fans.

    Simple answer right there.

?Hey Johnny.. your best offer is 8 million to play for the Tiggers. Would you rather have $8 million to play for the Tigers or 8 million to play for the Yankees??

    Simple answer right there.

problem with this scenario is that the 8 mil tiger offer came so late that it was an unrealistic proposition for the yankees. If they waited until Damon was down to 8 million from the tigers and tried to match it and then Damon decided he didnt want to take a paycut with his old team they’d be boned.

  128. THE TRUTH May 28th, 2010 at 2:18 pm

NO, the truth is if Cash wanted them back he could have had them. Both have admitted they wanted to come back. So what if Damon turned down the first offer? That is all part of negotiating. It happens all the time. CC turned down NUMEROUS of our offers and look where he ended up.

Cash did not want them back and thought he could replace their production. Obviously he was wrong.

Last year’s game thread got 1000+ responses because Pete made one post at 3 PM with the lineups, pregame notes, and everything all in one. Pete also didn’t post the post-game thread for a while.

  150. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos May 28th, 2010 at 2:32 pm

    Truth -

It isn’t as simple as you seem to think it is. They were willing to let Matsui walk to focus on Damon. Damon priced them out. You may think they could have spent more money, but they were working with a budget. Their “reaching out” to Damon was in terms of years – they were the only team to offer him 2 years, which they believed would appeal to him in terms of making a commitment, plus giving him the security of not having to go back on the FA market in one year. I think it was a decent attempt at compromise. Johnny gets the years, but at lesser money per. Johnny made it clear he did not want to take a pay cut from the Yankees. Period.

Matsui was not willing to wait until the Damon drama played out, land who can blame him? Plus he got a commitment from the Angels that he would be able to play the outfield, which he was not going to get from the Yankees.

Johnson was a calculated risk. It didn’t work out. But Matsui is not doing very well after the first couple of weeks of the season. So far, Damon is doing fine, but let’s see how the season plays out before we say it was all a bust.

  151. Laura - My Pretend Boyfriend plays for BAL May 28th, 2010 at 2:33 pm

“the truth is if matsui or damon wanted to come back, they could have. they chose other options.”

The Yankees did not want Matsui back and made it clear to him by not even calling his agent. Matsui’s agent called them and was told that they were not ready to talk to him just yet. He was thoroughly and rightfully annoyed and didn’t want to wait so he signed with LAA.

Damon wanted to come back at his price, which was ridiculous. By the time he realized that no one was going to pay him 13M, the Yankees had moved on to lesser players. We are paying for that now every time Thames or Winn takes the field and costs us a game with their horrible fielding or lack of offense.

Matsui signed with the Angels very early in free agency. Before most other DH options were even getting priced. Its unfair to say the yankees did not do anything for Matsui. Matsui’s agent told them about the Angels and Cashman said he had to work on pitching before he could commit to matching any offers.

Matsui took his deal thinking that well was gonna go dry soon.

The Yankees did no pro-actively try to retain Matsui, but its a fallacy to suggest that it was their fault Matsui signed with the angels. He was a DH, an aging DH. That just isn’t a priority for any team. (except the Angels, who are stupid).

Erica he wasn?t calling you immature. He was calling those who email Chad immature. If your are somebody who emails chad then you are immature. But he wasn?t call YOU immature. Unless you have emailed Chad, then, yes.

That was why I got offended. I have publically started on here that I do. I don’t feel that makes me immature.

  170. Irreverent Discourse May 28th, 2010 at 2:39 pm

laura – which is exactly why you don’t pay that guy any money. if you could only effectively work 3 out of the 7 days a week, would your boss keep you on and handle you with kid gloves, or would you get fired?

  171. CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 2:40 pm

I hope this is not an inconvenience. Could you just eliminate me altogether from GTLU today. I know I already entered a lineup, but it seems as if every time I enter GTLU, the Yankees end up losing.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

“The Yankees did no pro-actively try to retain Matsui, but its a fallacy to suggest that it was their fault Matsui signed with the angels. He was a DH, an aging DH. That just isn?t a priority for any team. (except the Angels, who are stupid).”

I’m supposed to be observing radio silence on this subject, but can’t seem to stop myself from talking about it. I think that if Cash had told Matsui that he definitely planned on signing him, but needed to lock up pitching first, Matsui would have waited.

  177. Irreverent Discourse May 28th, 2010 at 2:43 pm

I think that if Cash had told Matsui that he definitely planned on signing him, but needed to lock up pitching first, Matsui would have waited.

No way to prove this, but I disagree. Baseball is a business. Cashman CANNOT say that. If he said that, he might as well offer Matsui a contract right then.

“Anybody have any idea how to fill up this bullpen as park-gauden-logan Are just ridiculous”

Logan is in AAA and Park and Gaudin pitched last night for the exact reason they were supposed to. The game was out of reach and without and off day on Monday Joe needs to rest the main horses in the Pen

Relax on Gaudin and park they are the 11th and 12th pitchers on the second best team in baseball… most teams would take those guys to fill up there last two bullpen slots. Getting rid of the 3-4 fringe guys on a team will not make a huge difference, hence why they are called fringe guys.

If tex and alex start hitting with RISP you would;t even care if Gaudin-Park-Winn are on the roster. If you want to start picking on guys for not coming through, pick on the guys making 25 mill/ year.

  190. Frank G May 28th, 2010 at 2:51 pm

The Yankees would be much better off with Shelley Duncan than Marcus Thames who clearly can’t field at the mjor league level.

Prediction: Gaudin will be gone shortly, because he’s not effective. Park better get his act together. They will need one of them soon in a close game when the staff is extended, but neither looks like he can come through.

  201. food for thought May 28th, 2010 at 2:54 pm

It is true that in the past, people who have found access to their “genius” or rather, have started to experience genius visions, have had a tendency to be mentally unstable.

The way societies are constructed and the way humans have misunderstood the processes of genius (and insanity!) a great many barriers have been built up to stop people from having visions and contacting their own true genius mind within (the energy mind).

To break through these barriers, it was necessary to do insane things, or have insane experiences of trauma and suffering. Shamans of old used extreme physical pain and deprivation to “induce visions”.

Also, across the ages people have used substances to induce the visions that are necessary for true genius insights and ideas. This is not exactly conducive to mental health, plus every substance and trauma puts their own slant on the visions and makes them unstable, and thus, insane.

So it is true that IN THE PAST, genius and insanity DID go hand in hand.

It is however neither necessary nor beneficial to have genius and insanity linked in this way, and to be a genius and have genius visions WITHOUT insanity is actually the structurally correct way for human beings to function.

  235. The Other Phil (Don't Feed The Trolls) May 28th, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Those calling for registration and asking why they ‘can’t just add it’ don’t have any clue about the cost and infrastructure that needs to be implemented to do it. You don’t just click a couple of buttons and BOOM there’s registration. They’d have to get a new system for the blog and quite frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the paper decided it wasn’t worth the cost.

This blog, while a nice place to get up-to-date info and keep up with fellow fans, is not the paper’s financial priority and to have a few dozen posters e-mail bombing Sam, Chad, the IT guy, et al, about registration, isn’t going to do any good. Let’s face it, we’re talking about 20-30 people that post here on a regular basis. A ‘boycott’ by 30 people isn’t going to do anything to get them to move your way.

Most of you pitched a hissy fit when they changed the comments section and they changed it back for you. Some of you biatched about the new look of the site and I’m glad they didn’t change it back.

It’s not your site, it’s theirs. They may want you to like it, but if you don’t, they don’t have to do a thing to change it for your personal taste.

As has been mentioned by others, if someone wants to start their own blog to discuss the team or game threads or whatever, they are free to do so. Or post on nyyfans.com.

But this ‘register or I’ll boycott’ nonsense just makes you look silly.

  239. vblade May 28th, 2010 at 3:50 pm

  240. SportsGeek May 28th, 2010 at 4:27 pm

    Chad, Sam, Jeff….

I implore you to do something before this blog self-destructs!!
I have seen this happen before:
Stage 1: A new blog is created- not many readers
Stage 2: There are some good posts, and good commenters are attracted and the blog grows, and hopefully develops a great reputation.
Stage 3: Others are attracted to the blog and arguments/fights/disputes/imposters/random crap start occurring. At this point, the blog managers have to decide if they want to moderate things, or just let it evolve “naturally”. Hopefully, they begin moderating comments, blocking IP addresses, and maybe requiring registration.
Stage 4: If nothing is done, the good commenters leave– one at a time at first, but then more quickly as they realize there are fewer and fewer of the good commenters still around.
Stage 5: The blog is dominated by “trouble-makers” of all sorts, and there is very little valuable commentary any more.
Stage 6: Finally, even the trouble-makers find it uninteresting, and they all leave as well.

In my opinion, we are part way into Stage 4 at this point, and the blog is in serious jeopardy of self-destructing.

I seriously implore you to do something before this happens!!

“A blog that is not well managed ends up becoming cantankerous or argumentative or something. It will never cross the Delaware.” George Blogashington

“One if by land, two if by sea, three if by spam comments on the blog.” Henry Wadsworth Blogfellow

    # CR9 May 28th, 2010 at 2:29 pm “… they have nothing to do with whether or not registration is implemented.”

Actually, I’m sure the decision to implement registration involves input and discussion among multiple people, including Chad/Sam/Jeff. I would have to believe that the Newspaper company listens to their beat writers, and considers their requests, especially requests which are made strongly and with good justification.
… so I believe that to say that Chad and Sam and Jeff have “nothing to do with whether or not registration is implemented.” is very much mistaken.

  242. MAH May 28th, 2010 at 6:42 pm

They need to get the O going and sweep this series.
