Yankees bounce back against Cleveland
One day after their worst loss of the year, the Yankees bounced back with one of their best wins. A.J. Burnett was lights out through eight innings, and the rejuvenated offense came to life with a five-run seventh that sent the Yankees to a 7-3 win against the Indians. Juan Miranda and Francisco Cervelli added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, but the big hits belonged to Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira who had a two-run single and a go-ahead home run, both with two outs in the seventh. Burnett struck out eight, walked none and allowed only one earned run.

what a play by mo…this kind of game is why you dont lose faith with this team
Mark Teixeira must be saying to himself: “I did something good and Im stuck talking to Jack Curry, and not Kim Jones”
J/K! LOL!
“Yes-Mo” has go to go. Worst name ever. O’Neill can’t even bring himself to say it. How ’bout…..”Yank-motion”?

No need to do that Randy. You’re always there for the taking.

30 wins! Quick, who was the first team to reach 30 wins on the senior circuit?
Jeter will fall about 40 hits shy of 3,000 for his career at the end of his age 36 season. He will get a 4 year deal from the Yanks through his age 40 season. If he averages 200 hits per year over the life of his next contract, he’ll be within striking distance of Pete Rose with 3,800 career hits. 4,256 is the mark. Jeter would have to play through his age 42 season to sniff it. Maybe he’ll stay as conditioned and as fit as Julio Franco. But perhaps he’ll call it quits after this next contract if he feels he can’t compete at the top of his game. It’s a coveted record though. How many years did it take Pete Rose to break it?
Am I the only one still miffed about yesterday’s game, even more so than excited for this win?
sorry, I can’t get over that game yesterday. if we lose tomorrow, we only get a split…
Mariano is still the best pure athlete on the team.
Burnett > CC
CR9 – I would say that about sums it up!
Burnett got his 6th win of the year in his last start in June last year.
He got it in his last start or May this year.
Good grief.
“I just like to attack arrogant Bostonians and Red Sox fans like Randy l.”
I don’t know how you can expect anyone to take anything you say seriously after saying that.
I forgot one other thing.
Without Talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Career backup to the bullpen catcher!!!!!!!!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAH
Time to enjoy a great YANKEE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the beach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TEX MESSAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark Teixeira stats for May:
Games: 27
AB: 110
Runs: 20
Hits: 32
Batting Average: .291
HR: 6
RBI: 25
I think many of you need to take a reality check about your complaining.
I’m still steaming about yesterday’s game.
In fact, my husband’s friend comes to visit, “What’s with the Yankees?!”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“What happened?”
“Joba.”
“What?”
“Joba.”
“Who?”
“The setup guy.”
“Oh yeah, I was watching that.”
And this was after I had calmed down. So of course I had to stew in it a little more.
But today’s win definitely pushes that loss further and further away.
Huge game for AJ. Huge blast for Tex. Tomorrow’s another day.
Except playing Cleveland on holidays isn’t really a good thing.
“Without Talent!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Career backup to the bullpen catcher!!!!!!!!!! ”
Who, Moller?
Shaefer Hall pitched in his first High A ball game with Tampa today after his promotion from charleston and his line was: 5 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts.
The big bats so far through 6 innings are Corbin Joseph with a 4-5 and 2 homers, a walk and 5 RBI.
Jack Rye is 2-5 with a homer and 3 RBI.
Tampa Yanks won 14-5
SJ’s nephew was 2-5 with a double and 3 RBI.
CR9, lately you’ve built up a little more good will on the blog than you had initially.
If your goal today was to throw it away, you’re well on your way.
# CR9 May 30th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
I want Trisha to have my children.
We will get a lovely brownstone and live in the Back Bay area of Boston.
On sunny Sundays will we take the fam to the public garden to see the swan boats.
We will all wear the B cap proudly.
————————
LMAO!!! I know this is fake, but hilarious.
Cleveland has handed us some brutal losses over the years.
22-0 at the stadium in 05
24-4 or something on July 4th last year
Carmona/Joba bug game
Joba gives up a 3-R HR to Dellucci in 08 to lose the game
Ruined opening day at the stadium
Beat us 22-4 a couple days later
Rallied from 6 runs down to beat us yesterday
We need to pay Cleveland back by stealing LeBron James
“If your goal today was to throw it away, you’re well on your way.”
I agree. It’s bad enough with Trish and Randy going at it. We don’t need you making things worse. Which is what you are doing.
Great game from Burnett. His control today was probably the best I have ever seen him as a yankee. Big homer from Teix. LOL@ people wanting to drop him in the order he is a great player.
Why were people complaining about Gardner not running. The guy is on pace for 60 stolen bases. This isn’t a video game he is not going to steal every time he is on base and there are times he is going to get picked off or thrown out.
Ohh. The AL East is some kind of beast.
Tampa Bay 34-16
New York 30-20
Toronto 30-22
Boston 28-23
Baltimore 15-36
Toronto @ TB starting tomorrow. Gotta cheer against Tampa right? As long as we win.

Is CR9 on the left or right?
lol
You can tell Girardi hates Wally Matthews
(that was him who asked the question about why Joba wasn’t in the game)
“We don’t need you making things worse. Which is what you are doing.”
Tarheelyank, it’s a little ambiguous who the “you” is in that quote. When I first read it I thought you were talking about me — which you might be.
And sorry for not being even remotely funny for the last few comments — I need to get some lunch!
A win without the bullpen. Is that what it’s going to take for the rest of the year? Yikes. Hope they get it straightened out asap. The first smart move would be to send Joba back to AAA.
BTW, I flipped over to the White Sox broadcast… a half dozen Hawkisms in just a couple minutes. How do they stand it????
Nick
Sorry, Not You.
“I think CR9 had good intentions. ”
I agree he Had. He doesn’t anymore. He should step back.
While it’s too late to fill out your women’s softball bracket, you can still get in your world cup bracket:

Watching the game highlights and Cano is so good it is almost illegal.
Wouldn’t mind having Crowe as one of our outfield group.
CR9 and trisha are a team.
i rest my case your honor
AJ, Andy, and Phil , all have 6 wins= solid as a rock!
CC still trying for win number 5, next time is his 6th attempt!
AJ deserved this win hands down, and HE GOT IT!!
Nick,
I honestly don’t know.. He and Sutcliffe are the only two broadcasters that I just can’t listen to, I either mute it and listen to the radio or of that’s not an option just watch in silence.
I like the back and forth on the blog. But I really hate the sniping. Especially, unsolicited sniping. At some point, someone has to be the grown up and stop the madness. Please?
Fat boy Joba blew 2 of CC’s sure-fire wins
4+ run leads in the 7th and 8th and we lost both thanks to Joba.
He was also cheated by the umps in Boston.
blake, Sutcliffe is awful too, but in a different way. He’s probably the worst… I can sort of see some White Sox fans embracing the Hawkisms in a ‘he’s ours, gotta love him’ sort of way.
Sutcliffe, though… hard to find any redeeming value. And paired with Berman the other night was even worse!
CB, if you’re around, Buster Posey just got an RBI double, he’s turned my flailing Giants win total bet around!
Sabathia will be fine.
Once he gets on a roll, he’ll stay locked in for a long time.
He’s the last guy on this staff you worry about.
Posey is legit..that team has a chance to be really good pretty soon..with that staff all they need is just a respectable offense and they will own that division…
The Yankees and their Fans needed this one
No way CC wins 19 games this season.
m, do you think you sniped at Matt?
Matt Thorton – 2 scoreless against the Rays today
Let me be more specific. I really hate the sniping between randy l & trisha. It’s gotten personal and it’s an uncomfortable dialogue.
I know randy l likes to stir things up, but it’s hard to know when he’s being serious or not.
As for Matt? I think I snapped more than sniped. I responded to him because of what he said, not because his name is Matt.
“It ain’t happening in 2010!! May 30th, 2010 at 4:41 pm

Serious question- would you trade Cano for Heyward?

Does that mean I can’t give you a hard time when the Celtic’s win?
Let’s see how good a deal Cashman made this winter. As of today ………..
Detroit Tigers Hitters AB R H RBI BB SO SB AVG
A. Jackson, CF 5 2 1 0 0 2 0 .328
J. Damon, DH 2 2 1 0 2 1 0 .283
New York Yankees Hitters AB R H RBI BB SO SB AVG
C. Granderson, CF 4 1 1 0 0 0 0 .230
J. Miranda, DH 4 0 2 1 0 1 0 .231
Yes, I know Miranda is not the regular DH, but, he is batting about 100 pts. above that loser, I’m always on the DL, Nick Johnson. If the Yanks were going to give up so much, they should have gone after Roy Halliday. The bullpen will be what beats the Yankees.
# Doris from Rego Park May 30th, 2010 at 4:51 pm
Serious question- would you trade Cano for Heyward?
Naw. Heyward will be Mr. Atlanta for life.
I don’t mind the sniping so much. I usually just ignore it, along with the 300 posts in every game thread from infantile ignoramuses of the kind who decided that Mo was through when he was rusty after not pitching for 10 days, and who get hysterical every time the Yankees are behind, let alone when they lose. I don’t understand why people like that are baseball fans, or what enjoyment they get from watching the game over the course of a season. If you can only be happy when your team wins 75%+ of its games, go be a basketball fan. Or, better yet, a college football fan. Being a baseball fan requires an ability to think for the long term. Which most people acquire by the time they’re through with adolescence. Apparently not some of the posters here, though. Perhaps I was lucky becoming a fan back when Fritz Peterson going 12-11 was a good year.
What I do mind is what I see as the misogyny and homophobia underlying the attacks on people like trish and betsy, and CR9. And the assumption that only straight men are capable of truly understanding baseball or saying anything intelligent about it. Baloney. This is my 45th year as a Yankee fan, watching 100+ games a year for the most part (less when I was away at college and law school). I fell in love with them the very first game I saw on TV, in April 1966, with Roy White at the plate. The first game my father ever took me to, in April 1967, Fred Talbot defeated George Brunet, 5-2, and Mickey Mantle homered down the right field line. Even then, at 12, I knew better than to expect them to win every day, or get hysterically angry, like a baby deprived of candy, when they lost. Please. Knock it off, people. You’re ruining this place.
“moeller 2-0 in starts”
That’s what happens when you have a solid, professional, veteran behind the plate who knows how to call a game. He is a calming influence on the pictures and doesn’t fire them up and irritate them.
He goes about business quietly and doesn’t make the game about him. It’s like you don’t even know he is there, which is what the catcher;s job should be. Just calls the game, stays quiet and calm and does what he is supposed to.
Really needs to get more playing time.
Fair enough, m, but (not to be too pedantic) when one snaps, that means one has seen enough and can’t take it anymore. A cumulative effect.
I don’t know (not to get into your head) that you would have responded the same way to that exact same comment had it come from ‘Howard’ or ‘Xavier’ instead of Matt. But I have seen you snap at non-regulars before, so who knows.
As for randy, I don’t think he takes general offense at comments from from females whose names start with ‘t’ and end in ‘a’ — the content has driven the emnity, right or wrong.
m,
Think they are more co-defendents when it comes to stirring things up; but agree it has gotten very old.
Think CR9 should observe the unwritten hockey rule of “no third man in during fights”
AWJ May 30th, 2010 at 4:52 pm
Its Halladay. Giving up a Bullpen arm to get Halladay wouldn’t help the bullpen.
I’m obviously not suggesting either team would do it… Just curious what people think
The only reason I wish we still had Jackson was so we could include him in a trade for a reliever this summer. Not for his bat.
MY,
Of course you can. As long as you let me return the favor!
I don’t like playing the Celtics, but they were the less of the 3 evils as it affords us HCA. As long as we don’t lose one of the first 2 of course!
Just read a little on the espnboston blog. Their POV is interesting.
Anybody who thinks Randy is a Red Sox fan because he lives in the Cape needs to be drug tested.
You post the most moronic conspiracy theory garbage on here, which brings the level of intelligent on here everyday.
You beg daily for Yankee fans not to take shots at one another. So today, YOU decide you Randy is a Red Sox fan so you can take shots at him?
That makes you a fraud and a hypercrite because you KNOW Randy is a Yankee fan. Don’t deny it or it will make you a liar as well.
If you want to go out with Trisha, just ask her out, go on a normal date, and stop your idiocy on here.
Enough is enough.
Sox beat Rays, 8-5.
Cano does it at a more premium position.
Really depends on what you want… do you want the next Rod Carew or the next Griffey?
The perfect formula for Yankee success: Starter goes eight, Mo shuts down opposing team in 9th, the Yankees win. No need for the band of inconsistent relievers who make up the rest of the bullpen.
Thornton is perhaps the best set-up man, soon to be permanent closer.
okay, I don’t know who randy l says it to, but he does this, “still stalking me?” thing that implies there’s something going back and forth. I don’t know if it’s CR9 or trisha, but it’s driving me crazy.
As for matt. I know who he is. But I responded to his comment rather than with the, “Oh look, matt only shows up when we’re losing” comment. Attacking the comment not the commenter.
randy – that seals it, Moeller has to be the starting catcher from here on.
(Why couldn’t they have played like this yesterday?)
m
I was reading some LA papers. It sounds like Kobe has been waiting for his revenge from 08.
I think this is like playing the RS is for the Yankees.
“brings the level if intelligent discussion DOWN here”.
Sorry for the typo.
SJ – Impressions from Tampa? You got to see some outstanding games from Hall and Stoneburner.
my,
I don’t know if you saw Phil at the trophy-presentation, but he didn’t hide his true feelings. He’s looking forward to the re-match.
I can only hope that the Lakers have grown more than Rondo has.
CR9 and Trisha should get a room.
Preferably a rubber one without windows.

Is this crap for real? All in the defense of Trisha?
Ye gods.
m, I’m sure your intentions were pure, but “Still whining…Get over yourself” sounds like more than attacking the comment and not the commenter.
That’s why snapping can sound like sniping!
As for randy’s ‘stalking’ comment, that is a reference to Trisha earlier accusing randy and me of “stalking” her comments — now CR9 has taken it up and calls randy a ‘stalker’.
randy’s usage is a parody of the original comment and its subsequent usage.
Hall is ok, nothing special.
Stoneburner was impressive. Outstanding two seamer to righties.
Venditte pitched last night. The nephew singled and drove in a run off him. It’s pretty cool to see him switch pitch. Not sure he’s a prospect though.
Was impressed with Corbin Joseph. Swings it well. Really like his game.
Melky Mesa is an outstanding athlete. Wish he could hit better. If he could, every other part of his game is solid.
Overall, not a lot of real prospects on this Tampa team, IMO.
okay, Nick. You win.
m
I hope they have a tank on the sideline for Fisher if he has to try to cover Rondo.
I read where Phil saw Peirce last summer and told him to get back to the finals.
Some of the old time Lakers like West can’t wear the color green because of the Celtics.
SJ, I see the nephew was 2-5 with another double and 3 more RBI today. He’s fast outgrowing the FSL.
The good AJ showed up today and gave outstanding job and it was needed by the team; Moeller again was steady (defensively).
The team will be so much stronger when Jorge gets back; may have to DH a little when he first returns. He lengthens and strengthens the lineup, he does seem to be able to calm down and slow down out pitchers also.
Get back Jorge, but please not before you are good to go.
Melky Mesa is like Alphonso Soriano with defensive skills. I’m hoping that he wakes up tomorrow and recognizes what the strike zone is. He really has some kind of outstanding power and speed package with a glove and arm to match.
Good win! check out our recap1
my,
I do worry about Rondo. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kobe guarding him.
As for Fisher, he was a huge part of yesterday’s win on the road. This was a good series for him.
Westbrook, J-Will, and Nash. Fisher had his hands full, team defense helped, too. But Fisher didn’t embarrass himself. I think he’s improved over the last 2 seasons in guarding the speedier guards.
Kobe’s favorite color is green, but he refuses to wear kelly green.
At this point, the comments here are fir entertainment value only. There’s no serious discussion of Yankees baseball anymore, except SJ and a couple of others.
People still yapping about CC, saying AJ is better. Yet those will be all over him when ‘bad AJ’ shows up, calling for him to be traded or some crap.
Saying Cash should have ‘just gotten’ Halladay. Because Toronto had no say in who they would trade with.
The comically stupid comments have moved to epic proportions.
Anyways.. I’m glad they didn’t let yesterdays “worst Yankee loss evah!!!111!!” didn’t stop them from coming back today when they needed to.
Nick in SF,
“randy’s usage is a parody of the original comment and its subsequent usage”
——————————
Is this your opinion or a representation of your opinion?
Alfredo Aceves is the key to the bullpen coming together. If he can come back, and be productive during the season, and deal with his back issues after the season, things will straighten out, if not, it will be a tough road ahead. Ace has had these back issues from the time he arrived in Scranton, and has been able to play through them with a little rest. His problem got out of hand when he starting having back pain this winter, thus decided not to pitch winter ball in Mexico, but, never told the Yankees what was going on. If he had, this could have been dealt with sooner, before the season started. When a young player thinks his job may be on the line, he tends to hide injuries, for fear it might cost him a position on the roster.
Marcus
pictures=PITCHERS
“okay, Nick. You win.”
I wish I could believe you!
Sometimes you mean that but sometimes it just means ‘conversation over!’
My original point was not that what you said to Matt was qualitatively the same as what Trisha said to randy yesterday, just that sniping in general can sometimes be in the eye of the beholder… or something like that.
Hey, nice Yankee win today! I know we agree on that!
“Ace has had these back issues from the time he arrived in Scranton, and has been able to play through them with a little rest. His problem got out of hand when he starting having back pain this winter, thus decided not to pitch winter ball in Mexico, but, never told the Yankees what was going on.”
Citation please.
The 5:10 comment was not mine.
Thanks GB.
He got down as low as .287 10 days ago.
Now, he’s up to .327 and has driven in 7 runs this week to move into 7th place in the league in RBI.
The head of minor league ops for the Pirates was in town all weekend.
I’m hoping for a AA callup sometime in June.
The Other Phil (Don’t feed the trolls!!)
Everyone has an opinion, and because you don’t agree, you deem them to be stupid. I guess only your opinions are legit and smart. You want to read serious talk about the Yankees, why don’t you start us off with some of your knowledge and wisdom.
Unknown, I appreciate your sense of humor and observation, but you’re something of a troublemaker as well — takes one to know one.
Maybe you should transition to another handle, there is someone commenting as UnKnown who doesn’t like the association.
There are many unknowns in the world, not just one.
Okay, hopefully this will bring closure to the conversation.
If randy l, trisha, or Matt have a problem with what I said, then I hope they will address me. trisha has my e-mail if she wants to contact me in a less public way.
I’m sure we can smooth things out. Because, after all, we’re all adults, right?
The Other Phil (Don’t feed the trolls!!)
Ace and his wife are friends, therfore I do have knowledge of what is going on with him. His agent is the one to blame for how he has dealt with his back issues, but, no longer will that be the case.
Double for Buster Posey!
The legend grows.
m, you don’t have anything to smooth out, as far as I’m concerned. I was just responding to your comment, me to you.
But I’m not part of your private e-mail club, so what do I know…
m
I don’t stay up that late to watch the Left Coast teams so I have no idea how Fisher did.
Also the trophy presentation wasn’t a priority either.
The Cowboy with No Name really hated it when people also suggested they didn’t have a name, it kind of ruined his schtick.
