Unless the team goes on a serious forward roll soon , Cashman is eyeballing a bat and a bullpen arm as he gets ready for what will shake out at the 7/31 trading deadline.
At this point, the White Sox and Royals are heading toward being in a selling mode. NL teams are Plan B thoughts.

    ———————————————————————————————————————-

The Yankees are playing .618 baseball. How much more of a roll do they need to be on? That’s roughly 102 wins.

    GB,

I think people make “get on a role” comments for 3 reasons.
    1. This team has been sneaky. Not rolling off an 8 game streak, but are always taking 2-3.
    2. Everyone in the AL East, save Bmore is playing great.
    3. Some fan expectations are crazy or too high.

Optional BP? Is that a reference to the oil spill?

  6. GreenBeret7 June 5th, 2010 at 10:28 am

To reach 102 or so wins, NYY needs to will 17 games a month. That’s about normal for them. Seems to me that these clowns should spend a little time realizing what the Yankees do. They win series, sweep bad teams and split with good teams….just like they’re supposed to do.

    ……………………………….

All well and good. I’m talking about one of the patented Yankee charges where challenging teams wonder what they have to do for gaining any ground as the Yankees don’t allow teams to get close enough. That stage hasn’t arrived yet.

  9. MaineYankee June 5th, 2010 at 10:30 am

Maine, I saw that. My congratulations to you and your wife and the proud parents. really pleased to hear that it was a girl. My great grandson (the other twin) is 10 months old and is partial to younger women. He’s looking for a furture bride.

again, Maine congrats to you and your family. Nothing better than that….especially if you don’t have to clean them up.

I guess it must be difficult for Chad to still maintain the strong ties with SWB. When he does talk about minor leaguers, it is terrific, though.

And that weekend you brought up – yup, I agree, that was tough. Maybe we should all get (more of) a life?

Huh, I play the game once and I win.

  19. MaineYankee June 5th, 2010 at 10:41 am

Since the Yankees started winning again in the 90s they have been more even keel about making moves during the season. To early to panic and make changes when they haven’t been whole yet.

  20. California June 5th, 2010 at 10:41 am

“…but as a team the current Yankees are hitting .519 in 27 career at-bats against Cecil.”

So anyone cares to post what our numbers are against today’s pitcher?

  21. Jonah Falcon June 5th, 2010 at 10:42 am

Sure, .617 ball… after whacking the Orioles and Indians, who have a combined 34-74 record. Forget what was happening before that homestand?

  22. Chris June 5th, 2010 at 10:42 am

The “patented charge”, to the extent it even exists, would come when they are a bit behind and not winning, not when they are already winning at a .618 clip. Besides, there are too many good teams in their division for a “patented charge” to accomplish much.

  25. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos June 5th, 2010 at 10:44 am

    Tom in N.J. -

That catches you up with quite a few people. About 30 or so people played the first day of the season and won that game; some have never played again. :)

  26. the gay Yankee fan June 5th, 2010 at 10:45 am

Why do we need to win a certain number of games in order to be happy?

Why does it matter if the Yankees win 120 and not win the World Series or win 92 and win it all?

    Which would you rather have?

I rather win just enough to get to the dance and then get hot, then beat everybody during the regular season only to get upset by some wild card opponent that everybody says have no business beating us but does.

I thought we all already agreed that Thames should never see the field again.

  29. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos June 5th, 2010 at 10:48 am

I never know how to respond when people say things like, the Yankees only have the record they have because they beat up on the (Orioles) or (Indians) or (fill in the crummy team). It is what they are supposed to do.

You beat the weak teams, you win at home, you play around .500 or slightly better on the road, and you hold your own or slightly better against the “better” teams in the league.

Would you be happier if they had trouble with the Orioles or the Indians or whoever? Of course not.

Toronto is not the bottom dweller this season. They are or were tied with the Red Sox. Toronto, the Yankees, the Red Sox and the Rays are the top four teams in runs scored so far this season. Toronto also has some good young pitching. This kid last night had a good night; AJ had a bad night. That’s what last night came down to.

The AL East is the Monster Division in baseball.

It doesn’t matter what we think about Thames in the field.

  40. CS in LA June 5th, 2010 at 10:58 am

There were only 447 game posts last night and non by Chad after the 6th inning….Im afraid to say that maybe the blog is starting to jump the shark. Its sad because this has been my Yankees home for the past 3-4 years and I don’t know if my baseball experience would ever be the same without it, especially because I live in CA and only get to 1-2 games a year at the Stadium and a few in Anaheim.

So, what to do? First, we cant let it happen. Chad, I hope you’ll post more frequently in-game, and not just about the last play that happened. We all know that. Tell us more inside stuff, clubhouse perspectives and stuff only you see as being part of the entourage. Thats a lot of the reason we came here originally.

Secondly, make it a registration. Get rid of the trolls and people who only care about inciting a riot. I think all of us should not get puled into troll posts, but we do sometimes…its part of the deal in any fan blog, but Chad should do whatever he can to keep this a pure Yankees blog.

Thirdly and most importantly, have some respect for each other. I didn’t see the posts last night, but apparently it was ugly. Ugly? Between us Yankee fans? We’re all connected by a common bond, a love for the best team in the history of sport, and we are the best fans in the world. But why would we ever attack eachother. That just doesnt make sense to me.

And one other thing, don’t ever, ever mention the Red Sox here. I don’t care what Bucholz does in June. Or any other time for that matter.

    Chris

    Secondly,

Thames has to play if Gardner or Granderson gets the day off. Russo is no better defensively and far worse defensively.

That’s why I would have kept Winn and dropped Russo back to Scranton. When you rest a regular you’re not likely to get offense anyway, so make sure about the defense.

Also it doesn’t help that the Yankees baby injuries the way they do. Everyone takes longer to be “cleared” than just about anywhere else. I guess it’s an overreaction to having cleared Wang too soon.

  59. Betsy - Hughes rules (pleading the Fifth) June 5th, 2010 at 11:12 am

I disagree with the poster who suggested the Yankees don’t need another arm because Joba is back on track.

    1) I don’t consider Joba back on track at all just because he had two good outings.

    2) I don’t trust the pen except for Mo. We need another arm.

As to last night, well – given the stuff I’ve been through here, I’m not going to say that last night was bad. I will just say that the imposter issue has to be taken care of; that, and not trolls, will drive people away. This is supposed to be entertainment, not hard work, but it’s becoming the latter; who wants to have to constantly defend themselves or deny posts were made all the time ? It’s WAY too easy to copy someone else’s name in the NAME field and say whatever you want to. Then

I think people dont fully understand the meaning of “jump the shark”.

You’re not in the process of jumping the shark. You either do or you dont. “This blog is starting to jump the shark” is not a correct use of the term.

Jumping the Shark happens when something really bad happens and it never recovers, usually only used for television shows. Example, “Heroes Jumped the Shark after the Writers Guild Strike. The shows writing team never recovered and the following seasons were terrible, leading to the shows cancellation.”

Now, if you wanted to say this blog jumped the shark, you might say something like, “This blog jumped the shark when Pete painted himself red and moved to boston.” Seeing as something terrible happened and it hasn’t been the same since. Or you could say “this blog jumped the shark when posters began thinking that because they read a report online they began thinking they actually knew something.”

So yeah, when using the term “Jump the Shark”, please use it correctly.

    oops……

Then the person being impostered has to go through all the posts and explain his or herself should the imposter have made vulgar posts. Actually, we have to depened on the posters here to know what we would or wouldn’t say and to sniff out the imposters. As I said, hard work.

I would never complain about Chad and Sam’s posts; if you don’t like it, go elsewhere. I hated Pete’s posts about Springsteen, etc…….. but then, I don’t care about the Boss (not that one). It’s not necessarily up to the blogger to drive conversation. If you want to talk about interesting stuff, then let the posters ask questions or bring up certain topics or whatever. It’s very easy to start a new, intriguing conversation.

Funny thing is, I bet there are less than 8 people here causing all of these problems.

They have about 40 different screen names and use them to post their junk.

The other night, it was really the work of two people with six different names causing all the problems because they were saying the same thing under different names.

    Rocket scientists they aren’t.

If the powers that be here can’t get control of the situation, this place will be a ghost town in the middle of the summer because, when school is out for the summer, these folks will really ruin the place.

Trolling can be handled. The impersonator situation has to change.

That, more than trolling IMO, is the biggest problem on here right now.

“If the collective intelligence of this blog were to run the Yankees they would probably be in 4th place because all the minor leaguers would be playing every day.”

Yeah, the ones that weren’t traded for every player that hit a home run or won a game the night before.

I think GLove, if I recall, created a message board. Maybe we can go there if it gets bad enough………..that’s really the only thing we can do. Of course it’s not the same as a blog, with the blog’s real-time conversation, but it’s a start.

    GB-

“why he thinks it’s funny to wait until I’m reading them bothers me.”

Maybe he just can’t control his bladder.

Have you had his prostate checked ?

Or maybe he’s just starting to turn on you.

It’s something that bears watching. In the meantime don’t dare read the paper in bed. That’s my only advice. :)

I definitely agree that the impostering is the problem; at some point, people are going to throw their hands up in the air and just give up. As I said, when entertainment becomes hard work, it loses it’s appeal. There are other boards out there, other blogs, that people can go to; they aren’t forced to stay here.

I don’t know what can be done to the impostering; per Chad and Sam, they “just can’t ” do much beyond what they’ve been doing. We didn’t get any explanation (fishy?), just that there is not much they can do.

The last few days, it’s been empty here – and it’s depressing.

Betsy, try this one, our group left the Daily News Yankees blog for the same issues as here. I am the Admin and we always need more posters: http://yankeesboard2010.proboards.com/

Registration is required but we have lots of fun and good baseball talk as well.

Here’s something on our catching prospects:

    http://www.newsday.com/sports/.....-1.1982799

With Jorge Posada expressing a willingness to take more at-bats at designated hitter – because Nick Johnson’s right wrist created a void at DH, and because Francisco Cervelli has filled in nicely at catcher – it might feel natural to anoint Cervelli as Posada’s successor behind the plate.

It won’t be that simple, though. Posada does figure to start catching again at some point, and in the farm system, the Yankees have catching prospects Jesus Montero and Austin Romine.

Montero, 20, is playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and not hitting well at all, with a .652 OPS entering Friday. He also drew a benching after not hustling on the bases. Romine, 21, is playing for Double-A Trenton and is hitting considerably better, with an .848 OPS in the same time period.

Here’s what a talent evaluator from another team opined (on the condition of anonymity) about the Yankees’ young catchers: “I really like Romine. He’s got a chance to be a very good two-way player behind the plate. He’s an athletic kid who can hit and is going to be a good defensive catcher.

“Montero will probably be the better hitter with more power, but it’s going to be hard to find a place to play him.”

The scout added that defensively, Montero is “not as bad as I thought he was going to be.” He also voiced his endorsement of Cervelli’s future.

MG, thanks – I’m going to check that out right now; do you use the same screen name there as here? I hope others also check out your message board. I’m going to make it one of my favorites.

    GB7 and Maine Yankee,

You speak of the credentials of my grandson. He has gorgeous red hair and blue eyes. He is tall, likes music, kicking a soccer ball, playing with trucks, cars, trains and airplanes. He knows his letters and numbers, can count, etc.

What better Dunn and Bradstreet could you get than that!!!

  101. GreenBeret7 June 5th, 2010 at 11:44 am

Betsy, that’s the trouble with most of the “experts”. They don’t even bother to go see these young players. They and posters that follow the minor leaguers, only bother repeating what somebody else said….two years before. They don’t bother to update the true facts.

  104. Everyone sucks except SJ and CB June 5th, 2010 at 11:46 am

Montero and Romine both won’t be Yankees by the end of 2011. I’ve got a feeling that one of them will be traded, maybe even as soon as this summer, if the deal is right. if I had to pick, I’d say Montero is the one who does get traded as from all reports it seems as if Romine is the better catcher and won’t have to look for a position to play.

  105. MTU (aka GBURL) June 5th, 2010 at 11:48 am

Unfortunately, trolling happens on every blog and can be handled by ignoring the trollers.

Impersonators can only be handled by registration which those able to make such decisions have no interest in doing.

It’s a major reason why so many bloggers have or are going elsewhere such as myself. Why beat a dead horse ?

I’ll reconsider SAS’s grandson if he becomes a hotshot yankee pitcher with a 100 MPH fastball, Santana change-up, Blyleven curve and Rivera cutter and control or a Rodriguez hitting, Ozzie smith fielding shortstop.
