No A-Rod for series opener vs. Houston

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Lineup on Jun 11, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Nick Swisher RF
Jorge Posada DH
Francisco Cervelli C
Ramiro Pena 3B
Kevin Russo LF

Just a few minutes ago, Posada was on the field going through catching drills with Tony Pena. Posada first played catch with Pena, who gradually worked his way farther and farther from home plate, eventually getting to second base and beyond. Pena then pitched to Posada, who caught the ball in a catcher’s crouch, then popped to throw to another coach at second. When Posada was actually crouching behind the plate, Joe Girardi stood no more than four feet away to get a good look.

UPDATE, 3:41 p.m.: Brett Gardner is going to hit for the first time in two days.

So close-I think I had Nino and Russo switched around. :x

  2. Carl (Trade August Romain) June 11th, 2010 at 3:36 pm

A-Rod is out for 2-3 months.

  3. Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Irreverent – you’re probably right. Half of us spend so much time at LoHud I can’t envision many regulars with a good tan..

    # Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

Should we settle this once and for all and plan a LoHud beach trip?!
    =============================================
Atlantic Beach is nice but you can’t get on it.

  5. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:37 pm

whew. pena and russo back to back.

  6. Carl (Trade August Romain) June 11th, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Granderson in the 2 spot baby!

  7. Mike S. June 11th, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Speed at 2 with Curtis, dropping Swish to 5 to try to pick up Alex’s lost power…

  8. Erin June 11th, 2010 at 3:39 pm

LOL-I didn’t even notice Granderson was hitting second. I guess I was further off than I thought.

  9. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:40 pm

sometimes a lineup shakeup is good for a team

  10. SJ44 June 11th, 2010 at 3:40 pm

That bottom third of the lineup is U-G-L-Y.

For Nick in SF, our daily Austin Jackson update!……

    0-3 last night with a BB and a K.

    For the month of June: 9-40 (.225), 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 BB, 8 K’s in 9 games.

    Last 27 games, he’s hitting .240.

In other words, his unsustainable numbers are now coming down to earth.

  11. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

the logical place for a lohud meet and greet would be at the Stadium

  12. Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

mick – you may not be a beach fan, but what are your thoughts on pools?

  13. Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:41 pm

agreed.. right under the Paul Oneill banner, right guys??

  14. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos June 11th, 2010 at 3:42 pm

There were no winners in Today’s Guess The Line Up

    :(

But Trevor, you came so close. You had 1-7 exactly right.

  15. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:42 pm

i have been in the office pool a few times

  16. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos June 11th, 2010 at 3:43 pm

No one guessed Russo in LF, no one guessed Pena batting 8th. :(

  17. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:43 pm

undr the oneill banner would be good, i might be there for the 1st philly game

  18. Chad Jennings June 11th, 2010 at 3:43 pm

Gardner is hitting today. That seems like good news.

“the logical place for a lohud meet and greet would be at the Stadium”

How would you know the lohudder you were meeting was the real one and not an imposter?

  20. Patrick June 11th, 2010 at 3:44 pm

Irreverent – you’re probably right. Half of us spend so much time at LoHud I can’t envision many regulars with a good tan..

I have a pretty sweet golfer’s tan. Face and arms are tan except a completely white left hand.

  21. Patrick from CT June 11th, 2010 at 3:44 pm

Gardner went for an MRI today right?

  22. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:44 pm

alright russo could be a tough out…sandwich pena between , i get it

  23. Doreen - GTLU Stuff & Photos June 11th, 2010 at 3:45 pm

What I mean to say is no one guessed Russo in LF batting 9th. Sorry for the confusion. Plenty of people had Pena and Russo reversed in the order. But not many had Grandy 2nd and Swisher 5th.

There were so many great combinations today, I really thought one of them was the winner.

  24. Erin June 11th, 2010 at 3:46 pm

LoHudYankees Brett Gardner is on his way to hit for the first time in two days

He did-must have gone OK since he’s hitting now. :)

  28. Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:47 pm

Well Patrick, I’m a Jersey girl so I always have a tan, but I can’t expect everyone to live up to the high standards here in the Garden State ;)

Mick – I’m imagining you in a kiddie pool surrounded by cubicles.

  29. pat June 11th, 2010 at 3:47 pm

SI_JonHeyman arod was due for mri this aft. #yankees think — hope — groin tweak unrelated to hip. even if its not, theyll be cautious.

  30. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:48 pm

could we actually speak to each other or would we have to text?

  31. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:49 pm

    shame
I have indeed done the kiddie pool scene, quite refreshing

  32. Irreverent Discourse June 11th, 2010 at 3:49 pm

i have a decent bleacher tan going, the left side of my face is darker (ok… redder) than the right… needs more day home games!

  33. pat June 11th, 2010 at 3:51 pm

LoHudYankees Alfredo Aceves will begin throwing on Sunday. Only flat ground for now. “Nothing crazy,” he said.

  34. Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:52 pm

mick – its all starting to come together! i now have a perfect mental image of you..

  35. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:52 pm

we would no longer have the cloak of anonymity if we met at Stadium

  36. TMZ June 11th, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Our bottom third looks like it should be on the Astros roster.

  37. Irreverent Discourse June 11th, 2010 at 3:52 pm

i’ll be at the saturday mets game if anyone wants to grab a beer :)

  38. TMZ June 11th, 2010 at 3:53 pm

I wonder if A-Rod should have had that second surgery in the off season.

  39. Irreverent Discourse June 11th, 2010 at 3:53 pm

tmz – our bottom third would be starting over the guys on the astros roster.

  42. Erin June 11th, 2010 at 3:53 pm

Very good news on Aceves :)

Just like Cervelli. Both were hitting over their heads.

  44. Shame Spencer June 11th, 2010 at 3:54 pm

Alright guys, I gotta run but I’m gonna work on a LoHud take over of the bleacher soon!

  45. SJ44 June 11th, 2010 at 3:54 pm

If they can get Ace by after the ASB, it would be like making a trade for a relief pitcher.

Stop it. Taunting is a 15 yard penalty.

  50. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:59 pm

isn;t imitation the sincerest form of flattery?

  51. mick June 11th, 2010 at 3:59 pm

YankeesInk Gardner grade 1 strain of thumb ligament. Day to day.

  55. pat June 11th, 2010 at 4:04 pm

YankeesInk Arod not yet back from doctor. No word yet.

  56. pat June 11th, 2010 at 4:07 pm

YankeesInk Girardi says hip a concern. Hopes MRI will rule it out. Referred pain from hip to groin possible, he says.

  57. pat June 11th, 2010 at 4:08 pm

YankeesInk Girardi says all he knows is that Alex is seeing team doctor today. Said he assumes he will keep Phillipon informed but knows of no appt.

  58. Comet June 11th, 2010 at 4:11 pm

Greetings to UpState Kate, Doreen and Erin.

    Comet

Hoping A-Rod in not out for 2 to 3 months. We need Gardner back ASAP.

  59. Betsy - Hughes rules (Pleading the Fifth) June 11th, 2010 at 4:12 pm

So now Joe is saying it could be hip related? Ouch

    Hi Comet! :)

  61. pat June 11th, 2010 at 4:13 pm

YankeesInk It is still possible that, if Alex shows up at park and is cleared to play, he will be in lineup, says Joe. (don’t hold breath).

  62. Erin June 11th, 2010 at 4:13 pm

New Post re: Alex still at doctor

  63. Michelle June 11th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Arod’s hip/groin issue would explain his lack of power and driving the ball. Hopefully it’s nothing serious. The lineup is going to struggle without him like it did last year. With Arod out it’s time for Tex to finally step up.

  64. upstate kate June 11th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

    Hi Comet
send some Tim Horton’s donuts my way :)

  65. Betsy - Hughes rules (Pleading the Fifth) June 11th, 2010 at 4:15 pm

I’ve seen others question Joe as to why he didn’t give Alex an extra day or two off in the O’s series – and I can’t blame them.
