This afternoon’s MRI on Marcus Thames’ right hamstring was negative. The Yankees are calling the injury a strain.
“I don’t know how he did it,” Joe Girardi said. “I didn’t ask him.”
Girardi noticed Thames stretching more than usual in the outfield, and when Thames didn’t run hard on a third-inning pop fly to center field, he knew there was a problem.
“I saw him stretching in the field, that was my first inclination,” Girardi said. “Then he hit the popup to center — and Marcus always plays hard — and didn’t run as hard as I usually see. A real red flag went up for me.”
A negative MRI suggests the injury is not serious, but it’s worth noting that Juan Miranda is not in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lineup.
