A-Rod possible for Tuesday

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jun 13, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I have yet to see Alex Rodriguez this morning, but Joe Girardi said it’s possible he will have his regular third baseman back in the lineup for the series opener against the Phillies.

“My hope is that we will have him on Tuesday,” Girardi said. “I can’t tell you if that’s as a DH or a full-fledged player.”

    “He’s an incredibly bad fielder.”

    Based on what criteria?

Nice to see montero heating up.Romine slumping though.

If montero can catch that might give us the offensive advantage behind the plate once again.

Not exactly a fearsome 7-9 today…. Hopefully the 1-6 can get the job done.

Btw has Girardi said anything about who’s the DH until Nick Johnson returns? Are we stuck with the likes of Hufman and his ilk?

The way he fields his position. His negative value as a defensive player is somewhat mitigated by a strong arm. He’s not Mike Piazza. But he’s not Gary Carter. Or even Johnny Bench.

Ledger_Yankees Thames says he’s been playing through hamstring issues.

  7. ron June 13th, 2010 at 11:06 am

A lot don’t think montero will be our catcher, they think it will be romine.

We will have to wait and see.

“The way he fields his position”

    ————————–

In what ways does he field his position poorly?

This is just another variation on saying Posada is a bad defender, which you have said several times, without anything concrete to back up that statement.

Said this in the last post:

“Anyway, I don’t want to cut the guy down. That’s the problem with these exercises. Ending up finding reasons to disparage a guy you like and respect. I root for him, I like him, I’ll miss him when he’s gone. I just don’t think of him in the same class as even his teammate, Jeter. And it’s hard for me to think of him as being one of the best 204 players in the past 135 years. Maybe he is!”

That’s all I have to say. The HOF has no relevance to my life. If they want to admit the San Diego Chicken, that’s fine. It’s an institution, like the All Star Game, whose meaning has been diminished.

There are a lot of outfielders in the HOF that aren’t Willie Mays either….

Have you not seen brett gardner bat this year? whats not to like.

    No his cousin austin romine

if the Thames injury is going to land him on the DL….do you think they’ll have to go out and get a OFer

  15. ron June 13th, 2010 at 11:13 am

With posada behind the plate all these years it gave us an offensive advantage that very few teams enjoyed regardless of his defense wich was good enough.

The catching spot in the order is a dead spot in the lineup for most teams but not ours.
Hopefully montero does the same for us.

  16. LGY June 13th, 2010 at 11:13 am

Regardless of the HOF talk or not, if you are going to call Posada an incredibly bad defender, you should probably back up that statement with something.

That is a pretty serious criticism.

    Randy L.

He fields his position very poorly and compensates somewhat with a strong arm. He’s not in the same abhorrent class as Piazza, true. He has a hard time catching the ball sometimes. Which is strange.

Anyway, I don’t want to cut the guy down. That’s the problem with these exercises. Ending up finding reasons to disparage a guy you like and respect. Let Jeter catch for 12-15 years and see how close he gets to 3,000 hits. The HOF also considers position played, not just numbers. How else would Ozzie Smith, Bill Mazeroski, PeeWee Reese and Phil Rizzuto get in

    joeman

Thames is on the DL and they brought up Huffman.

  19. ron June 13th, 2010 at 11:18 am

The bottom line is posada did not hurt us behind the plate defensively while it gave us a huge advantage offensively.
Hopefully we can get a real dh with posada catching to lengthen our lineup again.

Velli is a nice backup catcher but he came down to earth & has no power, less than gardner.

  20. ron June 13th, 2010 at 11:20 am

    Who is this huffman guy?

    Any good?

  21. pat June 13th, 2010 at 11:35 am

BrianCoz Aceves is playing catch with Mike Harkey in right field. His first baseball activity in weeks.

  22. GreenBeret7 June 13th, 2010 at 11:41 am

The pitcher from the same draft class (7th overall pick) as Phil Hughes and supposedly better, Homer Bailey has been shut down from pitching any at all, indefinately.

  23. Ramondo June 13th, 2010 at 11:57 am

A-Rod must be so happy that his first game back will be against Halladay!
