Montero is not going to be the primary catcher in 2011. As long as Posada is healthy and effective, he will be the primary catcher (85-100 games) with Cervelli backing up (late innings and if Montero is ready he will catch 40-50 games and DH.

Even when Jorgie is 100% again, he shouldn’t catch more than 3 successive games. The team needs to keep him as fresh as possible for the stretch run and the postseason.
If the Yankees are fortunate enough to clinch by mid September, Montero should catch as many games as possible to keep Posada and Cervelli rested and ready for the postseason.

He just came back. They are 13-5 in their last 18 games and have the luxury of working him in slowly.

In the scenario you propose you state that the other teams offers something the Yankees could not refuse for their BU.

In that case, by definition it gets done. No ?

Here’s my theory on the 3 catcher situation.

Montero will be up next year with Cervelli as the backup.

After next season, Posada’s gone, Montero shifts to primary DH with Romine as the primary C and Cervelli still as the back up

Eventually I think Montero winds up at 1b (he’ll be 27 I think when Tex’s contract runs out)
