this is a lineup i can get behind.

  2. pat June 18th, 2010 at 4:23 pm

They showed A-Rod fielding grounders on YES and he looked like he was moving okay.

  3. pat June 18th, 2010 at 4:25 pm

YankeesInk Girardi says Yanks may want to add a bat but will not say whether it will come from inside organization.

  4. Erin June 18th, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Did anybody predict this lineup? LOL

  5. vblade June 18th, 2010 at 4:26 pm

*puts up the ignore the trolls sign*

So it all comes down to one game. Beat Algeria and advance.

    Who’s Ganderson? :D

  6. Zach S June 18th, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Curtis just getting a rest or there’s something more to that?

  7. Billy D June 18th, 2010 at 4:28 pm

“Curtis just getting a rest or there’s something more to that?”

Be easier to definitively answer if a lefty wasn’t throwing for the Mets. I’d guess it’s just a garden variety day off for now.

  8. Patrick June 18th, 2010 at 4:28 pm

trisha is now a Lakers fan? Just like CR9. And she returns on the same day CR9 does. Interesting very interesting….

    Erin

If anyone had Huffman today, they should get bonus points

  11. Warning Track Power June 18th, 2010 at 4:29 pm

Great time to give Granderson a day off.
Looking forward to seeing Huffman out there. Maybe he can help us win a game or two this weekend.
I look for him to get another start on Sunday. Which would be a fine time to give Gardner a day off as well.

  12. Erin June 18th, 2010 at 4:29 pm

BloggingBombers Granderson is healthy; just a routine day off against a lefty.

YES showing Alex moving the batting cage and screen around. Don’t the Yankees have people to do that stuff?

  15. LGY June 18th, 2010 at 4:31 pm

Just said the call against the US today was cri minal

Sweeny is late. The Yankees have already posted the lineup.

    I approve.

  18. tk June 18th, 2010 at 4:32 pm

    Wave,

I think you’re right about the lack of quality bats that could be obtained and the need to just be patient. The Yankees are still right at the top of the league in runs scored despite the injuries, Tex slugging under .400, Granderson’s OBP being under .320, and Jeter hitting about .280. If adding the 2009 versions of those guys is an option though, then let’s do that.

  19. Patrick June 18th, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Good lineup I guess. I think the time is coming when the Yanks trade for a better utility IF and a decent right handed OF bat. Having guys like Huffman and Pena in the lineup on a daily basis is not good…

  20. Corey June 18th, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Tex needs to get going. Girardi should consider putting Cano 3rd. Tex is not a selfish guy.

  21. m June 18th, 2010 at 4:34 pm

Curtis hasn’t had much time off, so it makes sense. At least he’s not batting 2nd. ;)

trisha has an appreciation for beautiful people? :) And Kobe did grow up in Italy. :P

BTW, I know there’s some Nate Robinson fans here, but during this series he acted more like a donkey than Donkey. Guys like Robin Lopez and Robinson with their premature and over the top celebrations need look no further than the vets if they don’t know how to act. rant over.

Maybe I’m insane but I actually thought they’d be halfway decent this year. Boy was I wrong. Well I’m still real optimistic for next year’s team. Love Avery, love the new owner. Favors will be a good pick in the draft although I wish we could have gotten Wall. Hopefully they can sign one of the big free agents. I think next year they will be close to a playoff team if Devin Harris can stay healthy and Lopez takes another step.

    Unfortunately yes. :(

I thought they’d be bad, but not less than 15 wins bad. I look forward to hearing Avery scream on the sideline to “PLEY SOME DAYFENSSS” and the continued improvement of Lopez, who I think will be a top flight center. Not sold on Harris’ PG skills, but he’s a great combo guard. Favors will be a nice pick. Him and Yi can share PF until one of them distinguishes himself. Was very impressed with Terrence Williams and his all around game at SF, and if they can get a player like Wade perhaps, then they’d be set for a playoff run.

Also, my mantra for the offseason is “Just say no to Joe Johnson”.

Does Girardi have something against having all his regulars in a game at the same time.. If they aren’t hurt, they are getting a day off.

  47. rounding third June 18th, 2010 at 4:53 pm

How about they’re giving Granderson a breather, and if you’re gonna sit him, you sit him against a lefty? And you can bet he’ll be in against Santana sunday.

  48. Wave Your Hat June 18th, 2010 at 4:54 pm

“How about they’re giving Granderson a breather, and if you’re gonna sit him, you sit him against a lefty? And you can bet he’ll be in against Santana sunday.”

Probably, but it just seems like if you were going to sit him out against only one of the lefties, you’d choose to sit him against Santana.

  49. Ca$hmoney June 18th, 2010 at 4:57 pm

Takahashi is the typical slider-speed lefty who relies on location to get guys out.

Aka the guys who give us trouble

This guy is going to be a nightmare for Tex. I don’t know why anyone would ever throw him a fastball.

  50. Freddy K June 18th, 2010 at 5:00 pm

    Wave,

    I thought that as well

Especially since Granderson is 0-12 with 6 Ks in his career against Santana. It’s strange how he only has 12 career ABs vs. Santana while his former Tigers teammates have 50+. Looks like Leyland benched him a lot against Santana.

Hopefully he’ll have more success with this softer-throwing version of him.

  51. Dean Winchester June 18th, 2010 at 5:01 pm

Tex is better from the right side so that should help

    vblade,

I don’t want to turn this into Nets blog but I have nothing to say about the Yanks. That plus Nets fans are few and far between so I never get to talk Nets :)

If Avery can turn the team into a great defensive unit I’m sold, that would be huge. Agreed about Lopez and Harris. Lopez will be a top 5 center very soon. Harris is more of a scorer and I was hoping the Nets would get the first pick so they could trade Harris and take Wall. But still, if Devin can stay healthy he’s a good player.

I’ve been reading that Favors has a ton of talent but he’s really raw so it might take awhile for him to be ready. And Yi is so bad, I give him a few months then get rid of him if he can’t produce.

Yeah I like Williams too, he can play anywhere.

Getting a SF/SG type would be ideal (like Wade or Lebron) but I doubt either of those guys would play for the Nets. So that leaves guys like Bosh, Amare, and yes Joe Johnson. Johnson might be the best fit if Favors is drafted :(

    ——————————

I don’t like Joe Johnson, he disappeared on the Hawks in their first round series, and he doesn’t have a track record of actually producing when it matters. Not a guy I’d allocate a max contract too. Thorn knows this, he won’t spend unnecessarily.

I think the athleticism of Favors will be huge in the frontcourt. Yi can provide a change of pace shooting big, and provides a steady presence when Favors hits the unavoidable ups and downs of a rookie year. Favors did 12/8/2 in 27 MPG at G-Tech, so there’s a lot of promise there. Hoping Lopez could tutor him on some of the nuances of the game, since he’s pretty raw.

Avery is an isolation coach, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does without a singular superstar like Dirk. If they can get LeBron here, that would be perfect. The Nets are weakest at SG/SF, so my dream scenario have both LeBron and Wade coming over. :D

Harris has, and never will be a true PG. He just doesn’t seem to have a knack for it. He’s more of an undersized SG at this point. However, you can’t play him at SG cause he’s too small, so we just hope he can improve.

Interestingly, the most likely FA acquisition for the Nets would be Amare, because he can slot right in at SF and not worry about rebounding the ball, which he is weak at. If they can sign Amare and a 2nd tier guard like John Salmons, they’ll be a playoff team.

  62. BIG AL June 18th, 2010 at 5:44 pm

Let’s give a Javy a break. Yes, he had a rough start, but, as of late he’s pitching much better. What did, Cashman and the Yankee fans expect from Javy, afterall he’s a lifetime .500 pitcher, that happened to have a very good year in 2009. I believe Cashman fell asleep at the wheel this off season.

Nick Johnson – Always injured – keeps his string going, again.
Javy Vazquez – .500 pitcher that has struggled in AL
Curtis Granderson – Can’t hit lefties, production declining each season, still can’t hit lefties, and is not a #2 hitter

Cashman needs to trade for Paul Konerko to get the needed power into the line-up, and Girardi needs to move Tex to the #7 hole.

It would also be great to get Cliff Lee, and then let Javy and AJ fight it out for the #5 spot, loser goes to the bullpen, or trade bait.

It’s time for an honest evaluation of talent, and those not producing, not just in a slump, have got to make room for another player that may bring more to the table.

For the most part, this is what they do with the bullpen, guys that don’t come through on a regular basis, lose their spot, or get sent down, or released.

I know, we can’t do this or that because after all it’s Tex, but he’s been a .200 hitter since the post season last year, and looks more and more lost at the plate.

Girardi – How about, no produce, no play!

  63. BIG AL June 18th, 2010 at 5:56 pm

This is what ruins a good blog. If you don’t want to blog about the Yankees, or baseball, how about going to the Nets site to talk BB – the season is over, give it a break!

  64. matt June 18th, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Here’s my rant. Why is Curtis not playing? Does joe really think Grandy would be worse then Huffman vs a lefty? What a joke. Why trade for the guy if you are going to not play him. I don’t get joe sometimes. Shows no confidence in curtis. Huffman is garbage.
