Brotherhood of the Traveling Pants
Notice anything different about Joba Chamberlain in that eighth inning?
While he was warming up in the bullpen, the zipper on Chamberlain’s pants ripped. With only a few minutes to go before he was going to jog onto a baseball field surrounded by a sellout crowd, Chamberlain swapped pants with Boone Logan.
When Brett Gardner grounded out for the first out in the top of the eighth — at which point Chamberlain needed to be ready to go — he was still putting on his new pants. He got them on time for the bottom of the inning and pitched around a two-out double for a scoreless frame.
So who’s pants will he be wearing tomorrow? I honestly have no idea whether Chamberlain was joking, but he answered emphatically.
“Boone’s!”

McCarver must be high as he just somehow compared Duke Ellington to Dustin Pedoria……Before that he compared Wakefield’s knuckler to Duke Snider’s floater ???? And to think this chump killed us in the 64 Series…….At least he refers to Mickey Mantle as the best he’d ever seen
That’s hilarious.
Thank goodness! I thought this was a “Giambi’s golden thong” thing.
How bad do you feel when Joba fits into your pants?
Wow. Beckett is still at least 3 weeks away from even going on a rehab assignment.
The Sox don’t have the pitching to hang in this for the long haul.
LGY-
They have to play a lot of road games soon also.
As far as the pants, As long as it works I dont care whose it is.

Lets not count them out just yet.
Maybe Joba will be encouraged to trim down a little so he fits better in Boone’s pants.
What are the chances of Padilla starting a brawl in this game?
I thought he was looking a bit extra chunky out there today.
Tar-
“What are the chances of Padilla starting a brawl in this game?”
Probably pretty good if he starts going into his beanball mode.
One more McCarver account on Mantle……During the 64 World Series The Mick walks to the plate in the bottom of the 9th to face Cardinal relief specialist ( that’s what they were called then ) Barney Schultz……Old Barney was a knuckleballer, and the first pitch Mickey sees is launched into the blue sky, when it finally lands it’s more than half way up into the upper deck…….In the old Stadium, the upper deck was 10-12 rows shorter than the remolded version, which meant it had less of an overhang……Not many hit balls up there…..McCarver tells the story that he first heard Mantle’s bat whipping thru the air and then he heard this ungodly crack……He goes on to say that it must of had a hang time of 10 seconds as he never thought it would come down……In all his years in the game, it goes down as one of the most incredible accomplishments he had ever seen…….It was a walk off win……Sorry for the longwinded tale
MTU
For reasons unclear to me, it seems over due. I must admit the thought of it would put a smile on my face? Does that make me bad person or a good yankee fan?
Pat M-
It got to be pretty hard to hit a ball that far much less a Knuckler.
I thought Joba looked good in Boone’s pants.
Tar-
You didn’t start the fight did you ?
LGY
I’d say Boston is fine without him, 1 game back, bats alive, firing on all cylinders.
MIN-3
PHI-8 THIS IS HOW YOU BEAT A DIVISION LEADERS!

Good grief.
Tim McCarver reminiscing about Daniel Nava’s GS like the Mickey Mantle story Pat shared.
philly and boston fans lecturing us on winning baseball!!!!!!classic…
granderson still needs better AB’s. the yanks still went 1 for 8 with RISP and tex and Arod are no where near where they need to be.
tex AB in the first is the story of his season.
again the overacheivers or pleasant suprises are; hughes, cervelli, gardner, swisher, and Cano
the underachievers are; arod, tex, aj, cc(minimally), joba, and granderson…..the pen also except for g-d(mo) has underachieved….
boston steals no bases and fields poorly, they will not slug like this all season, that will not happen..
When is Chad going to get rid of this troll? Pete would have axed him 3 days ago.
pettitte also has played better then expected…
MTU,
yea I think Phil deserves a special tribute for #10…I’m currently eatin some pulled pork in his honor.
Thanks Stuart
The urge to lecture about overlooking Andy, was very high. LOL
Blake-
He did his part now I’ll do mine.
Enjoy your meal. Sounds tasty.
I think Granderson just needs to get settled in and soon he will go on a hot streak. The DL stint didn’t help.
Remember last year Yankee fans were calling CC and Tex busts.
Granderson will be a great Yankee acquisition and a fixture in CF for several years.
All the Ajax lovers conveniently forget to mention he has a grand total of 1 HR, a .352 OBP, and is on pace to K over 200 times. His BABIP is coming down and his numbers are plummeting.
If this guy was a Yankee, fans would be ripping him apart.
Blake-
Is the Big Man gonna step up tomorrow ?
I missed the game. I volunteered at a homeless shelter today and played ball with homeless kids. We also played cards, board games, blew bubbles, made jewelry and ate like 8 bags of candy. Even I ate 3 mini Mounds bars and I’m a health freak. I had so much fun. The kids were great and I met some cool people.
Good to see Phil on track for 20 wins!
Can he do it?
MTU,
Man it is good…Carolina style (vinegar based).
I say yes on CC…its gettin to be his time of year…he’s due a dominant outing as well.
Very cool Brett. What city do you live in?
ALl I want from Granderson is 270 BA and good AB’s with RISP.
I am not burying him yet, but he needs to cut down on the K’s and be more competitive against lefties.
Pettitte I think has been there best pitcher even better then Hughes…
Bret-
Good Karma on the volunteer work.
Wouldn’t that be fantastic. 20 in the 1st full season. rarified air.
Tarheelyank,
I am in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Blake-
I’ve had it when I was in Cary N.C. great stuff.
LGY……Maybe the so called ” windbag ” SJ was right on about Mister Jackson……..MTU, that’s what made Reggie’s 3rd dinger in Game 6 in the 77 Series so remarkable, as he hit the black seats off of Charlie Hough……I had a few hits off of Hough in the Minors and a spring training game, and he threw so slow and soft that when Reggie’s moonshot was hit I just shook my head in disbelief
Bret,
Did you teach the kids how to swing the bat like DeJesus?
blake
Did you make it? Allen and Sons is just a hop skip and jump down the road.
Speaking of which I think I am going to follow the examples of m and LGY and shorten the name to Tar.
Just got back from the game.
For the record, I told all the doubters late last night we’d hit Pelfrey and we’ll hit Johan too.
It’s how these slumps work. We get shut out by long relievers and we beat the guys who are supposed to dominate us.
And I was very glad to see Tex hit a HR. After the DP in the first inning I was about to take matters into my own hands and force my way into the dugout and pencil Cano into the 3 spot.
Mo seemed to be throwing very hard today which was nice to see.
The slider Joba K’d Wright on no hitter had any business swinging at it was so far out of the zone from where I could see it.
Philly riding high after the Yankees beatdown this week, you motivated the Phitins, thank you Yankees.
Gardner auditioned for leadoff today very well you might say, but Joe won’t see it, and go back to his old tired line up, Neanderthal.
That was a fun game to catch up to on DVR.
In-N-Out Burger in my very near future.
Still have to post photo from Phil win #9 and now #10 is here! Love this kid.
Joba looks like he celebrated the win early.
Austin is hitting .240 with a .630 OPS for the last month +.
LGY is right. If he was doing that in NY, he would be getting KILLED by the same “fans” who are killing Granderson.
Austin can go get them in CF though. Great defensive OF.
Bret
Not far at all. Great job.
Manny! HAHA
Bret the Hitman, do ever go to Rusans for sushi ???? I used to go to Charlotte quite a bit back in the early 2000′s
Pat M-
Understand. The batter is supplying almost all the power. Yikes !
Can Montero do it ?
I hear he’s good at destroying light towers and such.
We need to see Granderson get hot. I think he just needs to get acclimated I think because of the injury early on, he’s still adjusting to this crazy place.
Usually new players struggle the first 2 months and then start to come on in June. Because of his DL stint, I think Grandy is right on the normal timetable.
He’s a dynamic player who can change games if he’s effective. I keep thinking you need to keep him and Gardner back to back somehow because that will make big innings happen.
MTU,
Lord knows I need good karma after my recent breakup. I kinda screwed that one up. Maybe it was doomed from the start. Anyways, I’m back out there and staying active so I don’t fall into deep depression. I’m going to church tomorrow to a church I just recently joined. I’m a hardcore northerner and this is a southern non-denominational evangelical church. They have a christian rock band there and everything. Sometimes I just sit there giggling thinking how absurd it all seems or I picture my relatives there with me in that room with all the southern accents. The church does a ton of charity work and that’s really why I joined.
For those not watching Manny hit one over the Green Monster. 3-2 Dodgers
We were out all day – another trip to White Plains – but the first thing I did when I got home a little while ago was to check the score.
Congratulations to YMH on this TENTH win!!! Amazing.
And good work, Tex, Grandy, Joba & Mo!!
(And I am embarrassed to say that the second thing I did was check to see if Matt posted today. NO surprise there.
)
Sorry 3-2 Sox

Bret,
Did you teach the kids how to swing the bat like DeJesus?
************
No but one of the kids threw the ball like a right-handed Dontrelle Willis. The one difference was he had command of the strikezone but he didn’t even know it.
We played mostly football though.
All the volunteers bought board games and fun activities to do and we left the stuff with the kids at the end. The one I played football asked me if he could keep the ball. Of course. It was a nice moment.

Bret the Hitman, do ever go to Rusans for sushi ???? I used to go to Charlotte quite a bit back in the early 2000’s
******************
I’ve never been to Rusans and I love Sushi big time. I love Asian food (and Asian women). I’ll have to give that place a try!
Bret,
I was just yanking your chain. Really cool you did that today.
Bret-
I can relate. Look at where I wound up. Hard core city guy in one of the most sparsely populated states in the US.
Go figure.
Some of us just are destined to take the road less travelled.
Makes it interesting. You’ll do fine Pilgrim.
New Post
After the wild ride win CC, gave the Yankees , he will lose tomorrow, and he should he’s no ACE. Phil and Andy put him to shame on your team. NOBODY in Philly thinks he’s an Ace, we do think he needs to lose weight.
Uh oh MIN cut our lead ,that Morneau fella PHI-8-4
