Burnett takes fourth straight loss

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Jun 22, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

A.J. Burnett has made four starts this month. He’s lost all four. Tonight he allowed seven runs, all of them coming after Burnett had two outs and the bases empty. The Yankees offense couldn’t keep up and lost 10-4. The D-Backs have been a bad team this season, but they’ve done one thing really well: They rank third in the major leagues in home runs. Justin Upton, Mark Reynolds and Adam LaRoche each homered in a five-run first inning, then Upton hit a three-run shot off Chan Ho Park in the eighth.

There are simply too many players in this lineup trying to lift the ball and hit home runs.

And AJ totally missed his spots tonight.

  2. Carl June 22nd, 2010 at 1:11 am

This team better learn to hit soft tossing scrubs soon.

  3. BobK-NH June 22nd, 2010 at 1:13 am

all 10 runs came with 2 outs

  4. GaGa June 22nd, 2010 at 1:14 am

Hard to believe that Bustnett was 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA after 5 starts

Shows how quickly things can change. This is who he is though. And he’s only going to get worse now that he is in hid mid 30s.

  5. Joe June 22nd, 2010 at 1:14 am

    JJ Putz, come on down!

  6. Nick in SF in Larkspur June 22nd, 2010 at 1:15 am

Luckily most of the playoff teams have good pitching, so we’ll be ok.

  7. stuart June 22nd, 2010 at 1:18 am

    burnetts postgame should be classic.

let’s guess. uh uh uh uh my hook was not working. can’t repeat my delivery, forget this one get them in 5 days, blah blah blah.

more bs. the guy is a 32 yr old who has not figured out how to pitch yet even though he has been at this fir at least 14 years and throws 2 pitches…..

he has cement between the ears like the melkman in atlanta and phil fool and the other trolls.

Swapping Gardner for Melky has been a detriment.

Melky hit 13 HRs last year. He was a threat to jack one out of the ballpark. There is a limit to how efficient your offense can be when you have a guy who has 0 power at the bottom.

    Replace Damon with Granderson… negative.
Replace Matsui with…. nobody? Now that NJ is gone, nobody replaces 25/100.

A-Rod on pace to not even hit 20 HRs. Tex still hitting in the low .200s. Jeter looks like Ramiro Pena.

And Huffman, Russo, Pena are the big bats on the bench?

Easy to see why the offense is as inefficient as it is. Boston just passed them in runs scored and other teams will soon follow.

  11. stuart June 22nd, 2010 at 1:20 am

the yanks 3 best pitchers are cc, pettitte, and hughes bottom line.

aj and javy who the hell knows…..why doesn’t aj get another tatoo maybe that will help his control…

  12. igotid88 June 22nd, 2010 at 1:20 am

    burnett should throw a splitter

  13. stuart June 22nd, 2010 at 1:21 am

the innefficient yankee offense is 2nd in baseball but hinske in atl. continue with your foolish nonsense you have no clue like AJ…

  14. Kirk June 22nd, 2010 at 1:21 am

I’ll quote Mike Francessa from last year on Burnett:

“The guy throws one hell of a pie. He can’t get anyone out, but he can throw one hell of a pie”

  15. YanksfaninPA June 22nd, 2010 at 1:22 am

tough night for the same sucking pitchers in Bustnett (LOL) and Chan Ho Scrub! couldnt keep up because our guys got under everything…could have score 10 as well with all our fly balls but didnt get the meat of the bat on the ball. Tough night…Andy on to do something he is great out…stoping losing streaks!

  16. stuart June 22nd, 2010 at 1:22 am

clowns look at damons #’s they are not that great. the guy also has 3 homers……..anyone think not signing him was a mistake should apply for the gm job at the sawx……..

  17. GhettoBlaster June 22nd, 2010 at 1:22 am

People are really saying the first place yankees are struggling because Melky is not on the team?

  18. stuart June 22nd, 2010 at 1:23 am

tex and grandy are just reruns.. tex pulling outside pitches and granderson no clue..

nice guys but granderson has done jack this year…………..

  19. Kirk June 22nd, 2010 at 1:23 am

“the innefficient yankee offense is 2nd in baseball ”

Second to who? Oh, that’s right. The team about to pass us in the standings.

  20. Jerkface June 22nd, 2010 at 1:23 am

Gardner has more HRs than Melky does this year.

  21. Nick in SF in Larkspur June 22nd, 2010 at 1:26 am

Jerkface, I have to agree with you.

About that other thing, I mean.

  22. Nome June 22nd, 2010 at 1:26 am

I can’t wait till Nick Johnson comes back. The guy just lengthens the lineup. Gives us stability at DH, sees a lot of pitches, and will be on base a ton of A-Rod and Tex.

  23. stuart June 22nd, 2010 at 1:27 am

kirk.. another blathering red sawx fan…..oh my g-d all is lost. you were probably one of the fools blathering last year also.

i forget who won it all last year?????????????/

  24. TK June 22nd, 2010 at 1:28 am

Wonder what genius Cashman has up his sleeve this trade deadline

Probably Chad Qualls and Fernando Tatis.

  25. The Philly Phitins June 22nd, 2010 at 1:29 am

That’s ok AJ, go home and count your millions to feel better man , you are a Yankee after all on the (cough) best team in baseball!

  27. Joe DC June 22nd, 2010 at 1:32 am

We deserve everything we get from the Philly troll

Maybe the team should start playing better if the players want him to go away….

  28. CR9 June 22nd, 2010 at 1:34 am

Philly – Seriously, what is wrong with you? Your posts do not bother me, dont get me wrong. Continue as you wish, but I dont understand your hate for us. There is no rivalry between the Yankees and Phillies. Honestly, the Yankees have no rivals, maybe the Canadiens or Celtics/Lakers. The Flyers beat the Bruins in historic fashion, you guys won the 2008 world series because the rays beat the red sox. You do know, if the Phils faced the Sox in 2008, the Phils were getting swept away. Why not hate Boston? It’s the only right thing to do in life. It’s the only way to live. Laugh at Kendrick Perkins for going down with a horrific knee injury, after he got his 7th technical foul taken away against the Magic. Karma came around for Mr. Perkins, a karma that brings a wide smile to my face and number 16 to the Lakers.

  29. MattNC June 22nd, 2010 at 1:35 am

AJ has had 5 blow-ups (6 ER or more) in his last 10 starts. Let’s hope that he’s going to get on an April-like roll soon, ’cause he’s killing the vibe right now.

That Melky vs. Gardner quote represented “The Zenith of Mongoloid reasoning”. Check their respective values in the stats tomorrow (WAR, VORP, RC/G) and get back us.

  30. Rich in NJ June 22nd, 2010 at 1:35 am

    AJ is what he is.

  31. Eddie June 22nd, 2010 at 1:35 am

“Karma came around for Mr. Perkins, a karma that brings a wide smile to my face and number 16 to the Lakers.”

    Couldn’t agree more!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Rich in NJ June 22nd, 2010 at 1:36 am

    “JJ Putz, come on down!”

How would that have changed the outcome of this game? Has Putz suddenly become a starter?

  33. Nome June 22nd, 2010 at 1:36 am

    “AJ is what he is.”

A very, very, expensive #5 starter.

    And a baker.

  34. Rich in NJ June 22nd, 2010 at 1:38 am

“A very, very, expensive #5 starter.”

Or perhaps a very good, albeit incredibly expensive, reliever…one of these days.

  35. Chris June 22nd, 2010 at 1:38 am

AJ’s big problem is not his difficulty in locating the fastball or the curve; it’s that big empty space between his ears. No pitching coach is going to be able to change that.

  36. Joe June 22nd, 2010 at 1:38 am

No but Putz means less games for Joba to blow. Guy is having a sick year. Joba’s ERA is 6.

Or it could make the organization realize that Joba needs to go down to the minors and get fixed. Maybe as a starter, maybe as a reliever, but fixed.

Or, as remote as this is, they make Joba a starter and move Burnett to the pen for the playoffs.

  37. Blank Check June 22nd, 2010 at 1:43 am

AJ is 33 years old and as others have pointed out, as he ages, he is going to get even scarier. He is not the type of pitcher who is going to adjust and reinvent himself.

Scary proposition. He’s not there yet, but he;s getting there.

He never had a stretch this bad last year. He had his blowups, but not 5 of 10 starts giving up 6 runs or more.

  38. The Philly Phitins June 22nd, 2010 at 1:43 am

    CR9

Nice to Phinally meet you. Earlier today your fellow bloggers accused me of being you.

I am a rival, I don’t hate, this is a sport. Your team beat my team last year, and simply, we want you to Phail. It was Phun watching (cough) THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL, get beaten badly, by a nothing team. LAA will have a field day on this bogus group.

  41. MT June 22nd, 2010 at 1:47 am

When Burnett was 4-0 with a 1.99 ERA in early May, I actually thought this was the year he was finally going to put it together and be a late bloomer like Schilling and finally pitch up to his power stuff and be a legit top rotation guy.

Shame on me for ignoring the last 10 years of his career and the teases he has demonstrated throughout them. He isin’t even a #5 starter now. He is probably worse than Vazquez was early in the season.

Guy is such a buzz-kill. Can never sustain a winning streak with this guy. I can’t even blame the offense.

  42. Rich in NJ June 22nd, 2010 at 1:48 am

“No but Putz means less games for Joba to blow. Guy is having a sick year. Joba’s ERA is 6.”

Lead is shrinking real fast. BOS was back as many as 8, just a mere month ago. Now only .5 game. They are trending upwards and will only get stronger in the rotation. The 2nd half belongs to Lackey as we saw in Anaheim…

Can go 1st to 3rd in a matter of days….

  45. Nick in SF in Larkspur June 22nd, 2010 at 1:50 am

Rough night on the LoHud, Pat M. Better nights ahead, I’m sure.

  46. Joe June 22nd, 2010 at 1:51 am

    Rich,

Oh, I didn’t mean trade Joba for him. I meant he wouldn’t be pitching as much with leads anymore. And if the organization came to its senses, maybe they would sned him down

  47. The Philly Phitins June 22nd, 2010 at 1:51 am

The standings reflect that the Yankees are not the best team in baseball, they were Phfauds!

  48. Jerkface June 22nd, 2010 at 1:53 am

Philly – I get accused of being many other posters on here. LOL! And please, dont insult me by calling them all “my fellow bloggers.” Many of them are disgraces to the state of New York – or perhaps they fit right in being a New York fan – by fighting amongst each other and attacking others with differing opinions. Also, if they had half a brain, they would ignore you if you bothered them.

I’ll put this nicely. You dont bother me, but because of the lack of maturity of others, you bother them. When you do bother them, the entire blog becomes about you.

Would you mind stopping posting here? If not, would you mind altering your style and not attacking the Yankees all the time, and perhaps losing the “PH” on everything. Also, it would be refreshing if you attacked the Boston teams.

I implore you to think what would have become of the 2008 World Series if you played the Red Sox. It would have surely ended in a 4 game Red Sox sweep, so can’t you pretend as if they beat your team, and you want them to fail because of it?

    Philly

It’s not about hate because of the “game.” It’s about hate because of the attitude, the arrogance. I dont hate Boston because they win, or have won. I hate Bostonians because of their arrogance, and because I’ve had poor personal conflicts with quite a few of them.

And watching their teams, their players act with the same arrogance as their fans. It’s evident when the Ticket Stub/Uno Uno/Big Baby runs around foaming at the mouth, when Paul Pierce spits on opposing players and fakes injuries, when their coach whines about every foul call throughout the course of an entire postseason.

  55. Nick in SF in Larkspur June 22nd, 2010 at 1:59 am

are you crazy or just dumb? gardner is WIPING THE FLOOR with melky this year….the stats are not even REMOTELY close….gardner is far far from a problem on this team…more accurately he has been a blessing, he has been one of the best players on the team….your comment is absurd
