Derek Jeter SS
Curtis Granderson CF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Jorge Posada C
Nick Swisher RF
Brett Gardner LF
CC Sabathia LHP
Joe Girardi wanted to split the lefties because the Dodgers left-handed relievers. Arizona had not lefties in the pen, so it wasn’t an issue.
good lineup
Let’s go Yanks! Woo-hoo, beat the blue out of the dodgers.
Awful Lineup
Where is the DH??? Why is Granderson hitting 2nd and not Swisher? Why isin’t Tex hitting 8th?
/sarcasm
I. waiting to see the Dodgers lineup.
Imagine Manny’s batting 8th?
lineups without a DH aren’t that much fun to see.
Manny is 12-21 with 4 HRs, 3 doubles vs. Sabathia
Yikes.
Why does Gardner continue to be no higher than 8th in the lineup?
these trenton announcers dont have a lot of emotion….rbi single sounds like foul pop out in 12-0 game
Manny is 12-21 with 4 HRs, 3 doubles vs. Sabathia
Thats when Manny was probably the best hitter in baseball
Quick bit of info for everyone in Socal thinking about going to the game…..Dodgers just put tickets out for the general public, just bought tix directly behind homeplate second level for 85 bucks.Stub hub price is at least couple hundred.
GF,
It will be a good book on Donnie. He’s contributing to it and Torre is doing the forward.
Lots of stories from former teammates, opponents and managers. It will be a fun read and Donnie has been extremely open on every facet of his life.
Why is Swisher hitting 7th?
Why isn’t Gardner batting 9th?
Why is Grandy hitting 2nd?
Sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm.
Betsy -
I think your take on Joe Torre is spot on.
I believe Torre ruined many a young pitcher, and never knew how to manage his pitching staff. After Pop Eye left as his bench coach, he made more in game mistakes than ever.
I love your posts, and think you really know your team.

Jason,
I guess they didn’t sell as many 4 or 7 game packages as they thought they would?

Are they new? I remember following few years ago and there were different announcers. They were much better too.

How dare Donnie baseball have that evil Torre doing the forward.

That’s good to hear. I’m looking forward to it.
As I’ve said several times before, Donnie Baseball is the reason I’m a Yankee fan.
That guy was a god to me growing up.

GreenBeret7,
Now I have yet to call you one name but now you call me an “idiot”, that’s not so Christian is of you is it? The bottom line is you have no idea who I am, my SN hasn’t changed since my boy Peter was running the site.
I don’t curse, I don’t insult, nor do I call people names. I just come here and do just as my SN says, I’m just positive, just positive. You, on the other hand, you seem filled with a lot of rage. Have you ever thought of planting a nice garden? That has a tendency of filling someone with a lot of inner peace.
======================================================
I will be very honest. I love this poster.
“Are they new? I remember following few years ago and there were different announcers. They were much better too.”
i cant say for sure but i think so…i remember a couple guys that seemed to have more energy.
I love Joe Torre and think hating on him is stupid.
Torre’s doing the forward for Donnie’s book?
Not for nothing but based on the tone in here I’m not sure you’re doing your client any favors by making that early announcement.
Also, tell your client that for a small fee I’d be more than willing to share my story about chasing Donnie’s Honda down E. 157th st.
I didn’t know Jon Flaherty does the play-by-play for the Trenton Thunder too.
I’m glad this guy has a sidekick.
Perhaps if Joe Torre said hateful things about your “family”, you might tend to dislike him also. I believe Torre must use a ghost writer, because he has trouble putting together coherent sentences, no less writing a book.
I love Joe Torre and think hating on him is stupid.

Know that’s THE TRUTH!
Damn, Laird just hit another long ball. Holy crap. His 19th of the season.
The real truth is that you probably
1. Have lots of acne
2. Live home with your parents
3. Never get laid
SO that being said, you were probably not a fan in 1996, and possibly not even able to walk yet.
I feel left out of the inside joke. Everyone using “forward” instead of “foreword”.
Did he really just confuse now and KNOW?
THE TRUTH June 25th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
The real truth is that you probably
1. Have lots of acne
2. Live home with your parents
3. Never get laid
SO that being said, you were probably not a fan in 1996, and possibly not even able to walk yet.
_____________________________________________________
I don’t know who that was directed at, but, I haven’t had acne in 60 years, been living on my own for 50 years, I must get laid once in awhile, having 2 sons. Maybe your problem is, You can’t take the truth, and if someone does not agree with one of your posts, you have a need to get nasty and insulting. By your own words, it appears you are the one in your own discription!
It’s a “forward” as in after you read Torre’s words you’ll be really looking forward to getting to chapter 1.
Also, as in many will probably just “fast-forward” past Torre and get right to Mattingly.
The Truth -
1. No
2. No
3. Not never, but not enough.
Favorite players – Bobby Richardson & Clete Boyer; so was a fan prior to 1996
If Brackman can pull things together it will be a huge payoff, if anything but making him valuable trade bait.
“IIRC a ghost writer wrote the book, and Torre did not have control of the content”
That is what Torre wants every one to believe.
Who went on the media circuit promoting the book? Torre or Verducci?
Who made significant money on the book? Torre or Verducci?
Buster was rigth, Torre is a hypocrite.
He does not understand why A-Rod is upset? A-Rod should just ignore him and walk by when Torre tries to talk to him
He thinks Cashman took what he wrote the wrong way? He acted like a gratitudeless jer*k towards Cash, without his support Torre would have been fired much earlier.
He must be really dumb to think that people will believe this cra*p he is saying now.
Especially, what did to Cashman is unacceptabe.
GM and Manager will have number of privileged discussions about players and he outed those discussions. It is like breaking client-attorney or doctor-patient conversations, which is a no no.
And, he has no buisness writing things about the health condition of Goerge when every one knows how protective his family was. No wodner Hal is upset.
If these broken relationships have to be mended it is upto Torre to initate the calls and offer some kind of apology.
Torre is the biggest loser in this whole episode. And I am sure he recognizes it as many of the media guys he used to manipulate found fault with him.
This in no way takes away the success of the team from 1996 to 2001. Torre will be given his credit for the success. But his glow was tarnished with his stupid act of writing that book.
It was directed to the so called “real truth.” I would refer to you as Big “Sensitive” Al.

What have you ever contributed to this blog to deserve to continue to post comments?
Can they play a triple header tonight so all the Torre/Yankee stuff can go away again?
I don’t think it’s a matter of who deserves to hit second, but, rather who is a better #2 hitter. I think Swischer right now is our best #2 hitter. Although, I’d prefer Gardner #1 & Jeter #2. Since they don’t pay me to make those moves, I’ll root for whomever is playing for the Yankees.

*****************************
Yes, please!! Monday can’t get here fast enough. lol
Swisher – too fast again.
Have a sane weekend, turn off the sound, and just watch the game.
What I find amazing is, a man that won 4 championships, handled himself with class, but he didn’t agree with the contract that he was offered, he then wrote a book that expressed his side of the story, then that’s reason enough to hate the man forever. It’s done, over with, the Yanks won a championship, and it’s time to appreciate the man.
I guess I understand why people would rush to defend A-Rod, but people have gone so far as to defend Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano. That’s where I get lost.
The funny thing is that everyone is quick to say all these positive things about Zim, but no one ripped the organization more than Zim – he even ripped Cashman.
Again, I just don’t get it.

See, no insults – Just like the Dave Mason song “We Just Disagree” 1977.
NumberOnePositivePosterInTheUniverse
I figure it will take people as long to get over The Yankee Years as it took Jeter to get over the Esquire article.
Err, he didn’t write the book, Verducci wrote the book.
Torre was the main contributor but there were other quotes in there, too. Like from the bullpen catcher that was A-Rod’s best friend, he said a lot of things that I felt were more damning of A-Rod than even Torre. David Cone said some things, even Mussina said some things about Mariano in the book.
Shouldn’t there be a uniform reaction then?
It’s like people love to just pin this all on Torre. I actually thought Torre didn’t say anything as bad as Borzello did, but people would rather blame Torre.
Lastly, the Cashman stuff doesn’t bug me, he’s not made of teflon.
I’d like to see Granderson turn his season around and stay in the #2 slot. Good fastball hitter with power and speed.
I like Swisher down in the lineup simply because he’s been a very good run producer this season and might have more opportunities to drive in runs.
He’s been outstanding this year with men on base.
So what exactly is the reason that you are not posting under your usual name and are instead posting under a name you obviously made up because it is similar to mine?

But, you forget, what he said in his book was classless. Torre said he was insulted by the Yankees offer, but, he still would have been the highest paid manager. He then takes the Dodgers job for less money than the Yankees offer. Did Torre feel the same insult by the Dodger offer, or, did he finally realize he was over paid to begin with. Torre should have been around in the 50′s and 60′s, when Mickey Mantle hit .356 one year and won the MVP. The next season he batted around .326, and got a 10% pay cut, because his production feel off. Torre is a spoiled ass.
“he then wrote a book that expressed his side of the story”
His side of the story on what?
Ridiculing people for no reason?
What is the justification for the non-sense he wrote about Cash.
Look, no one is questioning his winning the WSs. People are appreciating it.
That does not mean he gets a pass for his ego inflating book and throwing so many good people under the bus.
Did anyone else read the first Torre book? “The Torre Years” was interesting but I thought the first book was better.
“Giuseppe Franco June 25th, 2010 at 7:56 pm

”
oh yeah those 3 stolen bases on the year, WHAT SPEED!!! what a magnificant player, LMAO. Granderson is a bum.
“Arizona had not lefties in the pen, so it wasn’t an issue.”
Loving the Baroque grammar, Chad. Keep it up.
I for one can only hope Granderson turns his season around, but, it appears at this point in time he is continuing his slide of’09. Right now he’s a #8 or #9 batter.
BBFan – Am leaving for home, but wanted to hi, haven’t seen you here for a while. Hope you’re well. And I agree with your comments above.
“It’s done, over with, the Yanks won a championship, and it’s time to appreciate the man.”
My thoughts exactly.
“I guess I understand why people would rush to defend A-Rod, but people have gone so far as to defend Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano.”
Seriously? People are actually defending Kevin Brown and Carl Pavano??? Is that some sort of sick joke?
Gotten out of control – later. Go Yankees.
2+ IP, Edwin Jackson 5 BB’s, 0 H. Won’t be throwing up 0′s for much longer at that rate.
Ack. Gamecast updated.
2+ IP, 7 BBs. Zero outs.
You can call him spoiled, you can call him whatever, but to try and draw comparisons between when Mantle played in the 60s and now doesn’t even make sense. Sorry you lost me there. There was no CBA then, the players were royally screwed back then. And that’s fair? You rush to defend the millionaire owners, not cool, not cool.
Also, Torre played in that era, he knows the struggles of Curt Flood and how they needed the union and Marvin Miller. How is Torre a spoiled ass? Get your facts straight, AL.
Everyone wants to look at the $ value of the contract and say, how spoiled is this guy to say that a 5 million contract is an insult, I get that. It’s ok to come to that conclusion, but that was NOT Torre’s point. It was the fact that he needed to have these special incentives because they didn’t think he was motivated enough. Why don’t you get Torre’s side there? It was not about the 5 million, he even said as much in the book. It was about what it all meant, all the hidden messages. He felt he gave a lot to the organization to be treated in a way that he felt was disrespectful.
Thanks Joe.
“He felt he gave a lot to the organization to be treated in a way that he felt was disrespectful”
So, that gives him the right to write bad things about the people who have nothing to do with that contract offer?
And Melky ties it up with a base hit.
Also, why isn’t anyone mad at Borzello? I still don’t get that part. He’s suppose to be A-Rod’s friend on the team, but he said some pretty damning stuff about A-Rod always having to be catered to, inflate his ego, etc.
I just can’t believe that any one could honestly defend Carl Pavano or Kevin Brown.
“… they didn’t think he was motivated enough. Why don’t you get Torre’s side there?”
They insulted him that they thought he was unmotivated but Torre admitted he was burned out so maybe they were right.
He felt he gave a lot to the organization to be treated in a way that he felt was disrespectful.
==========================================
I’m sure this has happened in all walks of life, doesn’t make it right, mgmnt always has the last say, in his case they had enough. He felt they owed him, it was time for a change, overtime. They made an offer. He wanted out. Who was he kidding?
He comes across as a hypocrite throwing people under the bus,but he had a book to write, right? What is said in the lockerroom, stays there…right.
Not exactly the classy guy he made himself out to be.
He was a smooth talker , for sure.
Big Al, thanks for your kind words! No one every chases me off; if I leave, it’s because I choose to……….
BBFan, he wrote about the entire situation, how he never trusted Levine, how he asked Cashman to submit a counteroffer he thought was reasonable w/o the incentives, but Cashman never told them. He felt he was owed more than that.
Are you saying that every employment you ever had was a positive one? Did you ever do great things for a place you were working at and then they cut your salary, or they have a resource action, do you say nice things about your boss for not going to bat for you? What’s the difference? People can build loyalties to their employer, it happens all the time, and then the employer stabs them in the heart.
Torre’s story is one that happens everyday to people all over the world.
The Yanks won a championship, why even care to hate the man anymore? I don’t get that part. I like Cashman, but he’s not made of teflon, people can disagree with him and say they don’t like him. He’s a big boy, he can handle it.
“Also, why isn’t anyone mad at Borzello? I still don’t get that part.”
Did Borzello write that book and tell every one?
Whatever he said in the clubhouse stays there.
Nobody knew what Borzello said or did not say until Torre made it part of his book.
Borzello must have been really pisse*d at Torre for dragging him into this public mess.
Betsy, you are too strong to ever be chased away. I get my strength from you.
BBFan, WHAT? Seriously? That tells me write there you didn’t read the book. Those were Borzello’s quote to Verducci, not through some proxy named Joe Torre. What about Cone’s comments? Did those go through Torre, too? Or Mussina’s? At least be consistent.
right, not write
Whats your beef with Betsy?
She’s been on excellent behavior
Will some people stop making Torre out to be some great guy. The guy was no angel and he was a good manager not a great one. The guy is way overhyped.
If someone else was manager during those Dynasty years they would have won some World Series titles as well. Those Yankee teams were stacked with talent. The only year I give full credit to Torre was 1996 and the 1996 playoffs.
“WHAT? Seriously?”
Look, Torre can hide behind Verducci only so much.
As SJ stated in the last thread, once he has his name on the book, he has to take responsiblity for the content in the book. He can not just pick and choose depending on the reaction of the people.

Are you that dumb? Never mind. I know the answer, already.
Some people want to defend Joe Torre but the guy did some dirt. And if you look at his record prior to becoming manager of the Yankees he was an inept manager. Others in the front office and the players should get more credit for those World Series titles than Torre.

Granderson’s 6 for 6 in SBs this year, #s decent against RHP, poor against LHP but only 60ABs so small sample size. Almost half his hits are for extra bases. Not a bum.
Some baseball talk……
What is the possibility that Cash will trade Vasquez to NL and use what he gets back plus one premium prospect like Romine to get Lee? That will create an awesome rotation with CC,Lee,Hughes,Pettitte and Burnett. It will almost guarantee WS.
wiseass…give us your last SN, how’s that for starters, tough guy?
No one here ever give Cashman the credit he deserves for putting those teams together. I guess the Steinbrenners do because he is still working for them with more power than ever.
It seems to me that Joe T. should have understood that the Organization was no longer satisfied with him. Writing that book was the biggest mistake he could have made with Yankee fans. He made a fortune in a relatively short time, and after all, this is a job.
Betsy, this should be fun, life is fun, life is about smiling, life is about running thru the fields without a care in the world, like apple pie and ice cream on a hot summer day, like a Yankee win versus the Red Sox, life should always be fun. I’m so glad you have the same outlook on life as me.

“No possibility; Cash is not going to trade any prospects for Lee when he has a chance to sign him during the off-season”
Even a possible World Series win this year does not change that?
I will sacrifice Romine if we can win a WS this year.
With Cervelli doing well, it is a risk worth taking.
Cashman would never consider a loose cannon like Carlos Zambrano. The guy is an overpriced head case. Not Yankee material in any sense.
