Eighty one games into the season, the Yankees are the only team in baseball with 50 wins. Several things have gone wrong this season, but the most important thing has gone right. I wasn’t in the clubhouse after last night’s walk-off win, but I have to assume Nick Swisher’s words are just as true today as they were on Saturday.
“If you would have told me come July 3 that we would have had the best record in the big leagues regardless of what anybody’s numbers are, I would have signed up for it right off the bat,” Swisher said. “That’s why this is such a team game. It doesn’t matter if the offense isn’t really doing it as long as we get great pitching. It may not be like last year when we were hitting the home runs every single game. It might not be like that this year, but who cares as long as we keep putting up the Ws?”
