Major League Baseball just officially announced the Andy Pettitte all-star addition. Here’s that press release.

New York Yankees left-handed pitcher Andy Pettitte has been named to replace Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz on the American League’s active roster for the 81st All-Star Game, Major League Baseball announced today.

Because Buchholz was a player-elected All-Star, his replacement is to be the next highest ranking pitcher who was not already an All-Star via the Player Ballot.

Pettitte ranked sixth on the A.L. Player Ballot with 127 votes. This will be the third All-Star Game for Pettitte (10-2, 2.82 ERA, 16 GS). He also was named in 1996 and 2001.

Other announcements regarding the All-Star rosters will be made as they become available.
