Swisher falls behind Youkilis in all-star voting

Nick Swisher’s run to the All-Star Game took a step back in the past 24 hours. Kevin Youkilis has taken the lead in the final ballot online voting.

Hard to say what exactly has made the difference, but the Red Sox have joined the Reds in a cooperative campaign for Youkilis and Joey Votto. Youkilis is from Cincinnati, and I’m sure it helps him to be connected to the most obvious National League snub. The Reds, I’m sure, appreciate the size of the Red Sox fan base.

The Yankees are also going all out for Swisher, including sending several media relations interns to wave “Send Swish” signs outside of the Today show.

“I think Swish is probably the perfect guy for campaigning for himself,” Joe Girardi said yesterday. “Swish has a personality that loves to have fun and is not afraid to do anything on a video board, no matter what they ask him to do. Swish is good at it. And the thing about Swish is, all of these things he usually does in one take.

“Keep voting for him.”
