TIME/TV: 4:10 p.m. ET / YES Network

UMPIRES: HP Ed Rapuano, 1B Tom Hallion, 2B Ron Kulpa, 3B Lance Barksdale

WEATHER: Another nice day in Seattle. There are a few clouds but not much chance of rain. Temperatures in the 70s and getting warmer.

HEADING FOR A BREAK: At 55-32, the Yankees have the best record in baseball and a two-game lead in the AL East. It’s the team’s best record at this point since 2004 when they were 56-31. They are guaranteed to reach the all-star break with the division lead for the first time since that ’04 season. The past eight times that the Yankees led at the break, they went on to win the division.

SPEAKING OF 2004: After last night, Felix Hernandez has faced the Yankees twice this year and gotten a complete-game win each time. The last time an opponent had back-to-back complete game wins against the Yankees in a single season was 2004 when — of all people — Sidney Ponson did it with Baltimore.

SABATHIA’S STREAK: CC Sabathia has won seven straight starts, which matches the longest streak of his career (he also won seven straight in 2005). If he wins today, Sabathia will be the first Yankee to win eight straight starts since Roger Clemens in 2001. He would become the first Yankee since Mike Mussina in 2002 to win 12 games before the break.

UPDATE, 4:20 p.m.: The Yankees caught a break when Chone Figgins was ruled off the bag at second base. He was clearly off, but I’m not sure a lot of umpires would have made the call. Robinson Cano followed with a sac fly, Jorge Posado had an RBI single and the Yankees are in front 2-0.

UPDATE, 4:51 p.m.: Not saying I understand why he was bunting there, but I did have a baseball official tell me once that Alex Rodriguez is the best bunter he’s ever seen, you just never see it in a game because he’s such a good hitter.

UPDATE, 5:12 p.m.: Derek Jeter nearly doubled into that gap two innings ago but Gutierrez got to the ball. This time, Jeter finds a hole for a two-run double and a 5-0 Yankees lead.

UPDATE, 5:14 p.m.: Make that 6-0 on Teixeira’s RBI double.

UPDATE, 6:00 p.m.: As you can imagine, there’s a ton of newspaper stuff to write today. The Yankees got a two-run home run from Marcus Thames, and the Mariners got an RBI single from Chone Figgins. The score is 8-1 in the top of the seventh. Meanwhile, MLB has announced replacements for the all-star team.

Jered Weaver, Justin Verlander and Andrew Bailey have been named to the team as replacements for Sabathia and Trevor Cahill, who are pitching today. Weaver was named as a replacement, but since he’s also pitching today, he also had to be replaced. That’s why there are three names replacing two spots.

UPDATE, 6:38 p.m.: After a scoreless eighth from Chad Guadin, the Yankees have Dustin Moseley and Chan Ho Park getting warm in the bullpen. So far, it’s look like win No. 12 for Sabathia.

2 out of 4 against the Mariners isn’t bad, considering we faced Hernandez and a Lee impostor.

  2. BD (Boston Dave) July 11th, 2010 at 3:59 pm

2 out of 4 is bad

considering they are up 2-1 and have CC going against Rowland-Smith

It’s not a big game, but certainly a game the Yanks should win.

  3. Chris Columbus July 11th, 2010 at 4:00 pm

    Biggest disappointments of the season:

    (1) Joba
    (2) Granderson
    (3) Johnson
    (4) Melancon

  4. Mark July 11th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Never good when you win the first 2 games and end up splitting the series. Especially since we didn’t even face Lee.

And with our ace on the mound against their worst pitcher.

  5. Alex July 11th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

    I think we’ll win this 5-1.

  6. William Buckner July 11th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

2/4 against M’s give them 5-2 west coast road trip. Not bad at all.

  7. MTS July 11th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

    3/4 is better.

  8. chan ho's runs July 11th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Let’s go CC. Win this for Mr. Sheppard.

  9. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:02 pm

    BD,

I agree. This is a game the Yankees should win…not a huge deal if they don’t obviously but they have their ace going against a very mediocre pitcher. A win today means a 6-1 west coast trip which is fantastic.

  10. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:03 pm

Bet if CC is rolling he gets pushed into the 8th thanks to useless Joba

  11. SJ44 July 11th, 2010 at 4:03 pm

    Is this game over already?

Man, some of you are too funny.

Win or lose, it’s been a great west coast trip.

No more WC trips and they are in first at the break

Hard to ask for more right now.

  12. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:04 pm

The steroided up 1999 home run derby is on MLB network…I remember watching that night like it was yesterday.

  13. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:05 pm

watching Reds-Phillies and Yankees patsy Arthur Rhodes is pitching the 8th for Cincy. LOL didn’t even know he was still playing. wonder if we can get him to pitch he 8th? he can do no worse than tubby.

  14. m July 11th, 2010 at 4:08 pm

    JeterHughesJoba,

I don’t think Aceves makes it back this season. Mitre is the one on his way back, but he can’t pitch the 8th. Hopefully the break does wonders, and Joba rediscovers how fun baseball is. :)

    murphydog,

It was Hughes’ job to lose, so I think you may be right. Joba must be the most frustrating player the Yankees have had in a long time.

  15. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:09 pm

why the hell are ppl conceding a game that hasn’t even started against the mariners with CC going against Rowland-smith….. uh yeah that does not make much sense at all

also it may not have mattered last night and it was still basically all Joba’s fault, but Granderson has to take some blame also. Jack Wilson, zero power, all he can do is bloop singles… and Curtis is playing him way deep??? that leadoff single should have never fallen in. poor thinking, poor positioning, and if they get the leadoff guy out there that big inning may have never happened.

  16. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Romulo Sanchez was moved to the pen in Scranton, probably with an eye for a bullpen role in NYY. any word on his progress? can’t get some more options instead fatso here soon enough.

  17. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:13 pm

2 pitch out for Jeter, massive surprise there

  18. Joe from Long Island July 11th, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I don’t know if Joba’s weight is the problem. Mickey Lolich didn’t have a problem repeating his delivery, as I recall, and he was the definition of “portly”.

Joba needs to be consistent. I’ll leave it to the pros (Joe G., Dave Eiland, and Tony Pena) to determine how that’s best done.

  19. SJ44 July 11th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

The only thing more frustrating than watching Joba pitch are the Joba Fanboys blaming everyone but Joba for his failures.

In fact, that’s more annoying than watching him pitch at this point.

Joba is to blame for Joba and nobody else.

    It’s all on him.

  20. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:15 pm

you know what’s frustrating? watching people hate on a guy non stop who is making the minimum for our team. that really pisses me off.

  21. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Tex is really hitting the ball hard with frequency now.

  22. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:16 pm

10 years later and still booing A-Rod. GET OVER IT SEATTLE

  23. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:16 pm

hating on a guy who doesn’t even make 1 million bucks who pitches one inning like every 2 games at most and he’s not even the closer. that makes me laugh

  24. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:16 pm

    kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:15 pm
you know what’s frustrating? watching people hate on a guy non stop who is making the minimum for our team. that really pisses me off.

LOL SERIOUSLY? What does salary have to do with Joba sucking?

  25. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:18 pm

hating on a guy who doesn’t even make 1 million bucks who pitches one inning like every 2 games at most and he’s not even the closer. that makes me laugh

Because he can’t even do that effectively. He’s worthless and costing this team games. The last 2 losses are because of games he blew.

  26. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:18 pm

um, salary has a LOT to do with expectations, are you kidding me

why do you think A-Rod makes 25 million a year

    are you seriously that stupid

  27. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:18 pm

Good call by the umpire but boy do infielders hate that call.

  28. teddy3321 July 11th, 2010 at 4:19 pm

i though cano hit a grand slam

  29. LGY July 11th, 2010 at 4:19 pm

damn. I thought that was gone off the bat. Year of the GS went through my head right when he connected.

  30. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Its deep out there in right center.

  31. chan ho's runs July 11th, 2010 at 4:20 pm

So it’s okay for Joba to suck, because he doesn’t make a lot of money? That is possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen on here, which says a lot.

  32. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:21 pm

    kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:18 pm
um, salary has a LOT to do with expectations, are you kidding me

you are a moron. the expectations for this chump are the same as any other reliever, go out and pitch a scoreless inning/keep the team in the game etc. only an idiot would correlate roles with only salaries. the world is that black and white to you?

  33. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:21 pm

So it’s okay for Joba to suck, because he doesn’t make a lot of money? That is possibly the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen on here, which says a lot.

    ^^^ yeah really.

  34. m July 11th, 2010 at 4:22 pm

Joba’s not some middle reliever you can bury in the bullpen. He has a very specific job. Try to hand a lead to the closer. He doesn’t have to have 100% accuracy, but at least keep the score close with precious few outs left to recover with.

  35. Rick July 11th, 2010 at 4:22 pm

There’s no telling how many times the master of repeated mechanics (Mariano) has told Chamberlain that’s an important part of pitching success.
It’s mostly between Joba’s ears. He either can’t or won’t listen.

  36. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:23 pm

yeah chan ho, i said it was OK for him to suck. you have excellent reading comprehension skills, clearly. can you point out where i said it was ok for him to suck? or that it is EXPECTED for him to do poor? no, i never said that. i said it’s lame for people to flame a guy constantly that barely makes the minimum and pitches like 1 inning every 2 games. it’s on 25 guys, not one, and Joba is not hitting cleanup for our team or our ace pitcher making 20 million a year. why are expectations so high for him anyhow? you know what you’re getting out of him- a harder thrower, good slider, struggles with mechanics and he can be inconsistent. either it’ll be a quick 1-2-3 or he’ll blow it. blame Girardi for putting him out there if you don’t like it. but enough with the flaming of Joba, Christ

  37. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Joba is paying his dues salary wise the same as most all young players do. The fact that he is making less money has nothing to do with him doing his job….in fact if he wants a big pay day in the future then he had better learn to do it better.

  38. H.K. July 11th, 2010 at 4:25 pm

Got to start Joba-proofing this game now.

  39. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:25 pm

kevin, you are also omitting Joba’s Ian Kennedy post game routine where he consistently pooh pooh’s his poor performances and blames the media for making too much of his bad outtings. that’s the other half of the equation of why most people are tired of Joba

  40. m July 11th, 2010 at 4:28 pm

Expectations are high because he pitches in high leverage situations.

  41. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:29 pm

joba, i will admit that the actual Joba does seem way too nonchalant about his performances, whether he does well or he blows it. maybe he doesn’t take his job seriously enough, who knows. hell i’m not even advocating keeping the guy long-term. i think he could be a great trade piece if they could get value for him, but at this point i’m not sure his value is even close to its highest.

he’s just ultra frustrating because the talent is there, but i guess maybe you have to question the attitude and work ethic

  42. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:30 pm

    m,

but he doesn’t put himself out there. Joe does. if he’s not reliable enough, he shouldn’t be pitching the 8th inning. but at this point you know what you’re getting out of him. you know what the results could be. the manager is the person who keeps putting him in the game.

  43. m July 11th, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Expectations are high because he pitches in high-leverage situations.

  44. chan ho fart July 11th, 2010 at 4:31 pm

    Joba will be fine

  45. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

  46. Chris July 11th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Granderson is such a solid player.

  47. Chris July 11th, 2010 at 4:36 pm

    Captain Groundout

  48. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

gutierrez and Ichiro catch EVERYTHING out there

  49. teddy3321 July 11th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

unbelieveable catch, can’t catch a break

  50. m July 11th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

Please. Don’t get me started on that. But I think Cash will address it. The starters have done well, but they can’t be pitching so deep all season.

BTW, both Hughes and Joba have been successful at setting up. Has nothing to do with age, salary, or experience even.

Your point about the manager is well taken, but don’t pull the salary card. Farmsworth would be ( and did) getting yelled at even more.

  51. blake July 11th, 2010 at 4:38 pm

Gutierrez is unreal in CF…that was a great play.

  52. LGY July 11th, 2010 at 4:38 pm

    I hate this ballpark.

  53. Joe from Long Island July 11th, 2010 at 4:39 pm

This guy is getting hit harder than I recall the last time the Yanks faced him, a couple weeks ago. We’ll see if that continues, but, if it does, can he stay as lucky to get great OF catches?

  54. LGY July 11th, 2010 at 4:39 pm

IDK why these teams build such big ballparks.

Chicks don’t dig long flyballs to deep center field.

  55. John July 11th, 2010 at 4:40 pm

I can’t wait until this Mariners series is over.

  56. RS July 11th, 2010 at 4:41 pm

Rangers are in danger of losing 4 straight to the Orioles at home. Ouch

  57. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:41 pm

    m,

people seem to hate the salary argument, and it’s no excuse, but to me it’s obvious that expectations should in part be tied to salary. players progress and regress at times and we can’t forget how young Joba is still. maybe he will never fulfill his full potential with the yankees. but it’s not fair to expect perfection at this point and it’s probably not even fair to compare him to Hughes. maybe Hughes is just smarter and more mature. who knows. Robertson has been pretty solid lately. maybe he should get a chance to start pitching the 8th.

Yankees have hit like 5 flyouts to the wall this series that would have been long gone in Yankee Stadium.

  58. Nyyankspg July 11th, 2010 at 4:42 pm

Joba shouldn’t be sent down but girardi needs to send him a wake up call. Such as using someone else in the 8th inning for a game

  59. John July 11th, 2010 at 4:43 pm

It’s too bad that Melancon can’t seem to get it together on the big league level.

  60. Bret the Hitman July 11th, 2010 at 4:44 pm

ESPN insider saying the Yankees are interested in Ted Lilly. Could it be possible that a mystery team from the Cliff Lee talks is still pushing hard to acquire Vazquez and offering something the Yankees highly value and need?

  61. Joba Farnsworth July 11th, 2010 at 4:45 pm

    LGY July 11th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
    I hate this ballpark.

This place still beats the Kingdome – that place was a house of horrors for the Yanks

  62. MLBTRCommentModerator July 11th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

“Chicks don’t dig long flyballs to deep center field.”

  63. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:48 pm

even though it’s only 2-0, feelin pretty good, Yanks are having some good swings and you always gotta be confident when CC is going. this would be a nice win, taking 3 out of 4 and going into the break on a high note.

  64. Chris July 11th, 2010 at 4:50 pm

At least we won’t have to see this DUMP of a ball park ever again — that is, until next season or unless the Mariners miraculously make the playoffs.

  65. Laura July 11th, 2010 at 4:50 pm

We found out last week that the Sun is a Yankees fan.

  66. ukon July 11th, 2010 at 4:50 pm

    Bunt, Arod!

  67. m July 11th, 2010 at 4:51 pm

Kevin, to be fair, I’ve used the salary argument myself. People were hating on Gadrner about being an automatic out, when the big bats weren’t doing squat.

My argument there was not to get on Gardner because he was mainly here for defense. They weren’t expecting much offensively. But Joba’s up description is different. And the pitcher should have advantage. Joba has done it before, too, that’s why he’s expected to get the job done.

  68. Laura July 11th, 2010 at 4:51 pm

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Alex attempt a bunt.

  69. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:51 pm

    Bret

That is what the headline says, but the rumour says nothing about that. Talks about the Mets. An intern must be running the rumors today at ESPN.

The Cubs are 10.5 games out of first place, leading to speculation as to when and if they will wave the white flag. If they decide to cut some costs and unload left-hander Ted Lilly, the Mets would be interested, as might the Cardinals, Twins, Tigers and White Sox.

Ken Davidoff of Newsday says via Twitter that the Cubs are getting more serious about making a deal and that the Mets “like the idea of getting Lilly” for his $6 million remaining salary and giving up fewer prospects than they would in a deal for Cliff Lee.

The 34-year-old Lilly is 3-7 this season, but has a respectable 3.76 ERA. He is a flyball pitcher who would fit in well at spacious Citi Field. There also would be no salary commitment beyond this season.

  72. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 4:54 pm

    m,

fair enough. i think both of us have made some good points. with Joba’s stuff, there’s no doubt he has the ABILITY to be effective. for the sake of the Yanks, and considering that Joe will probably keep sending him out there, let’s hope he figures out that consistency.

Joba is to blame for Joba and nobody else.

    It’s all on him.

I’m a Joba fanboy and I agree with you, Joba’s problems are all on him. There have been some things that have gone on that haven’t helped him but it’s up to Joba to fix himself.

The innings limits and pitch count limits really hurt his progression and also the shoulder injury had a lot bigger effect than we all though, even if it was minor.

Regardless, Joba needs to figure himself out and nobody can take responsibility for it but him.

  81. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 5:09 pm

overall, a VERY sloppy game so far by Seattle

  82. Mark- Can't touch this. July 11th, 2010 at 5:09 pm

    15 runs should do it.

  86. Betsy - Hughes rules (pleading the Fifth) July 11th, 2010 at 5:12 pm

These rumors about the Yankees going after SP make no sense; what exactly is wrong with the rotation? As I said earlier, if the Yankees had had concerns about : Andy’s age, Phil’s innings, CC’s workload, AJ’s erratic nature, etc.. – they would not have (a) given the #5 spot to Phil and (b) would have obtained another pitcher besides Javy.

SJ, do you think it’s a given that Phil goes in the pen for the post-season?

They’ve said a million times that Phil’s innngs limits aren’t a big deal, yet Sherman and his ilk insist that it’s a problem, lol.

One thing about Joba: he’s up for abritration this year and he’s going to get a raise. That won’t help things.

  91. Alex July 11th, 2010 at 5:14 pm

  95. Patrick July 11th, 2010 at 5:19 pm

    Betsy,

I think the Yanks figured that as good as their rotation was, getting Cliff Lee would make it even better. The Ted Lilly rumor makes no sense though… I just looked at ESPN insider for all the rumors they have and all the pitching “rumors” tied to the Yankees are simply speculation by whoever wrote the entries. Basically the writer saying “Well the Yanks wanted Cliff Lee so we have to consider them contenders to get Oswault, Lilly, Sheets, ”

It’s all a bunch of garbage that someone at ESPN is making up…

  96. the gay Yankee fan July 11th, 2010 at 5:20 pm

  97. Chris Columbus July 11th, 2010 at 5:29 pm

::sigh:: I guess, at the end of the day, I’m still angry over ’95.

  102. countryclub July 11th, 2010 at 5:36 pm

No reason for CC to go more than 6 innings today. Save some bullets, Joe.

  103. kevin July 11th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

this is what the Yankees should do to teams like this. awesome game so far.

i have been impressed with Thames this year. i was happy when Cash signed him, knew he could be a solid backup, and he has delivered. he’s always had power but one thing he has kind of all of the sudden developed is patience. he has never been an OBP guy, but this season with the Yanks he has actually done a tremendous job getting ahead in the count, and either getting a walk or driving the ball. he’s been a nice little addition.

  104. Chris Columbus July 11th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

While the A’s and the M’s are not exactly titans of the game, a 6-1 West coast trip is very rare.

Last night I was trying to look up when was the last time they won 6 straight on the coast. The schedule on Yankees.com only goes back to 1999.

Of course then Joba let it slip away. It’s probably my fault for jumping the gun.

    Doesn’t that always happen?

    What inning?

  119. Matt July 11th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

This inning is on the Yankee offense.
You can’t make your pitcher go back out on a hot day after taking only 6 pitches.
Even with an 8-0 lead you need to give him a breather on the bench.

For all you haters – notice I am posting with the Yankees far ahead.
If the Yankees need to be called out on something, it doesn’t matter the score.

  120. sigh July 11th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

CC HAS A 7 run lead and gets a coaching visit. Joba had a 1 run lead last night, with 2 on base before a coaching visit told him to load the bases, which yielded a grand slam.

  121. MLBTRCommentModerator July 11th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

    Top 7th, 8-1 Yankees

  122. rconn23 July 11th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

C.C. didn’t lose focus. He was throwing strikes with an 8-run lead. It’s what he’s supposed to do. Some of them are bound to miss gloves.

Walking batters up 8-0 would be losing focus.

  123. RS July 11th, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Nice to get all the west coast trips out of the way before the all-star break, and nicer even that the Yankees are about to go 13-7 in those west coast games, and the players won’t have jet lag for the all-star festivities.

Btw, Cano would have 2 HR and 5 additional RBI if this game was at Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, or many other stadiums besides Safeco.

  124. realistic July 11th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

    matt

that’s exactly the point. the uankees have were leading by 8 runs, CC gives up 1 run and you’re right there complaining about the offense

  125. John July 11th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

I’ll allow them one run. But that’s it. We need to score at least two more before I’ll be fully satisfied.

And wait until we see them again in August. Boy howdy I hope we shellac Felix.

  126. Jeremy July 11th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Give it a rest already ! The Yankees are doing fine. Do you have to complain about every single thing ?

  127. Rick July 11th, 2010 at 6:01 pm

It’s safe to say that Mariano will pitch the 9th so he can get the work in.
Any combination of Robertson, Marte, Mosely, and Park should keep Chamberlain from causing damage as soon as C.C. is done for the day.

  128. realistic July 11th, 2010 at 6:01 pm

What a lot of people don’t get is playing/pitching against the Yankees is like an actor/actress auditioning for a play on Broadway.

Sure it’s nice to audition for any paying gig, but ……. BROADWAY! …..

All the Adrenalin pumps out when you’re simply touching the game’s biggest stage.

For players and teams completely out of it, when the Yankees come to town, it’s their “world series”. They play each game like it’s Game 7 of the World Series.

That’s why they freak out when they win.

  131. Bronx Jeers July 11th, 2010 at 6:04 pm

  135. Cookiepuss July 11th, 2010 at 6:08 pm

I have an idea on what to do with Joba after this season:

Make him the fifth starter behind Sabathia, Burnett, Hughes, and a re-signed Pettitte who I think will come back. If Pettitte doesn’t come back, the Yanks could sign Cliff Lee and still make Joba the fifth starter.

Tell Joba he is a starter from hereonin, no more yo-yo-ing between the rotation and the bullpen, this way he has all offseason to prepare as a starter and that includes losing weight even if it’s just ten pounds. If Joba sees the rotation as a demotion, he needs his mind checked because last I checked, fifth starter for the Yanks after grabbing a ring maybe two after this year is pretty damn good and one could argue that he was a starter who was best for the role the Yanks couldn’t find anyone for and who filled it until they needed someone who really was that role. I don’t see any shame in that whatsoever.

He receives double-affirmation: You were our eighth inning man, now you’re our fifth starter.

Why not do this if the Yanks repeat or at least make it to the World Series or A.L.C.S. esp. if they repeat?

    2011 Yankees rotation:

    Sabathia/Burnett/Hughes/Pettitte/Chamberlain
    or
    Sabathia/Cliff Lee/Hughes/Burnett/Chamberlain

This way the two youngest starters are broken up.

Joba is still young, cheap, promising, and talented. I would not give up on him entirely. Maybe he is just not cut out to be an eighth-inning reliever let alone a reliever.

I don’t wanna hear Javier Vasquez for 2011, he is pitching well enough so far that he will definitely want and get minimum three years and $1XM a year the Yanks cannot and should not commit to with his age.

  136. GreenBeret7 July 11th, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Sabathia has been getting nothing but ground balls and infield outs, today. One out to the outfield today to go with his 1 strikeout.

My name is Francisco Liriano and I have been the best pitcher in the AL this season not named Cliff Lee.

    Have a nice day.

  138. sigh! July 11th, 2010 at 6:13 pm

I personally am tired of the 1 pitch outs , Swisher has done it every at bat. Joe must be calling for them to do this stupidity. Javy used 117 pitches in 7 innings, he had to be tired from the Yankees only making Felix throw 8-10 pitches.
Yet he was ahead all game until Joe decided, like Torre (in 2004) that it was a throw away game, by bringing in Joba.

To be fair to Joba, he’s only had a few outings where he’s been completely dreadful and surrendered multiple runs. But he’s had even fewer where he looked anything like the dominant pitcher he was in 2007, which Girardi seems to expect he’ll get if he throws him out there enough.

  185. rb July 11th, 2010 at 6:47 pm

    Rest in peace, Mr. Sheppard.

“Sheppard was a presence around the dugout, double-checking the proper way to pronounce each player’s names, and for years he and Posada joked about the first time. “He came down and asked me if I preferred George or Jorge. And he asked me if I preferred Posado, and he started laughing, or Posada.”

Sheppard never called a game at the new Yankee Stadium. But his legacy lives on. The franchise honored him by naming the media dining room “Sheppard’s Place.” And he will continue to live on with every Yankee Stadium plate appearance that Jeter makes from now until he retires.

“I grew up a Yankee fan,” Jeter said. “His was the voice I always heard. There were a few times sprinkled in and out when he wasn’t there. It just didn’t sound right. I had the idea to record his voice and to always use it.”

6-1 West Coast swing. The Yankees led in every game. Pitching was superb.

Now that’s how to finish the first half!

    TTTTTHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNKKKEEEEEEEEEEEES WIN.

Now a boring four day break for the All Star game. At least the ASG is better than watching the world cup referees decide who will win.

Nice way to start the All Star break by having a game Joba-proofed.

Great 1st half. Offense is clicking, rotation is great, just need to sort out the EIG situation.

    Jeremy
Felix was gifted 5 innings of 8-10 pitch innings because of 1-2 pitches per player, while Javy’s count was being worked he threw 17-24 pitches per inning hence the 117 in 7 innings.

He celebrated the way he did, because he was given a gift and he knew it, Yankees had his number, until Joe sent in Joba.

Todays win is great but the Yankees better find a way to beat high caliber pitching, because that’s what’s awaiting them in postseason, that’s the real concern

Brett Gardner leads the Yankees in OBP. They in turn lead the league in OBP.

He’s second on the team in BA to only Cano. We’re not even considering his outstanding glove.

Folks, he was snubbed from the All Star Game, but the Yankees would not be where they are right now if it weren’t for Gardner.

I hadn’t seen Gaudin in so long, I really forgot he was still on the team.

    CC goes 8 straight!!
