Obviously today has been dominated by news of George Steinbrenner’s death, and if you’re looking for perspective on the Boss we’ve got you covered:
Here’s a timeline of the major events in his life.
Also, several of the Yankees at the All-Star Game are planning to address the media this afternoon. Joe Girardi, Andy Pettitte and Alex Rodriguez will have a press conference at 4:15 p.m. Eastern with Derek Jeter following them at approximately 4:30 p.m. I’d imagine that MLB Network (and perhaps one of the ESPN channels) will carry the sessions.
Additionally, the YES Network has announced that it will air a two-hour special, “George Steinbrenner Remembered” tonight at 6 p.m. I pasted the release on that below the jump.
YES’ George Steinbrenner Remembered is scheduled to include interviews from Angel Stadium with Yankees manager Joe Girardi, the Yankees players currently in Anaheim for tonight’s All-Star Game, and other dignitaries. The special will also consist of interviews with and recollections from many former Yankees greats and other luminaries.
The YES Network’s special coverage commenced this morning with an encore presentation of the George Steinbrenner Yankeeography which premiered on YES in September 2009. YES went live from its studios at approximately 1 pm ET today with a special program hosted by Kay and Curry. Among the luminaries interviewed live by Kay and Curry within the first three hours: Goose Gossage, Graig Nettles, Paul O’Neill, David Cone, Don Mattingly, Willie Randolph, Gene Michael, David Wells and Ken Singleton. The special program also contained archived interview clips of Mr. Steinbrenner and others.
YES will show encore presentations of George Steinbrenner Remembered from 8 pm ET to roughly 12 am ET, after which it will re-air its George Steinbrenner Yankeeography.
Starting at 6 am ET tomorrow, YES will rotate airings of its George Steinbrenner Yankeeography and its George Steinbrenner Remembered special.
