Statement from the Berra family

As you know, Yogi Berra will miss the 64th annual Old-Timers’ Day celebration today. He fell in his home in Montclair, N.J. last night. The Yankees said Berra was OK but unable to attend today’s event.

Here’s a statement from the Berra family:

“Yogi fell down last night near our house (in Montclair), and suffered some bruises. He is now recovering at home. He is extremely disappointed he is unable to participate in today’s Old-Timers ceremonies and see so many of his friends. He appreciates the well-wishes and hopes to be up and about very soon.”

All the best to Yogi. Despite the fall, he is still in pretty good shape for being 85. I hope he has a lot more healthy years left.

LoHudYankees Reggie was very emotional, said he didn’t really want to be here but club officials convinced him.

LoHudYankees Cashman said he didnt talk to Reggie but that Reggie HAD to be here. “It’s in his contract.” Good one-liner. No sentimentality for the GM.

KenDavidoff Nice touch here at #Yankee Stadium – the voice of Bob Sheppard welcomes fans to Old Timers’ Day and introduces John Sterling & Michael Kay.

This guy Blomberg was on death row for 10 years and wrongly convicted of murder.

Ouch Cash – and if Reggie emotionally couldn’t handle it, then for pete’s sake, he shouldn’t have been forced………That doesn’t make Cash look good.

Poor Yogi -the most important thing is that he’s ok but what a crappy week. Maybe he can make it out to YS when he’s feeling better

Don’t send Cashman to AAA. “One liner” means he said it as a joke.
