Blog registration begins at noon

Registration begins in an hour. One last time, here are the details from our online department, along with a list of the prizes being given away in the random drawing.

This afternoon we are implementing free registration on the LoHud Yankees Blog. This is not meant to hinder you in any way. Rather, it will make reading and commenting on the blog a richer experience. By introducing registration, we will try to ensure that the conversation is free from the distractions of spammers, trolls and imposters.

Registration will be necessary for those wishing to post a comment on a blog entry. If you simply wish to read the content, you do not need to register. Each person who wants to comment will have to register a unique username. In addition to choosing a username, you will be asked to submit a valid e-mail address, your gender, zip code and age. This information is for demographic purposes only and will not be released to any outside party without your express consent. However, you may receive promotional or informational e-mails related to the LoHud Yankees Blog. You also must check the box saying you agree to the Terms of Service. Once you register and sign in, you’ll be able to comment as much as you wish.

To kick off this new feature, we are holding a drawing for those who register between noon July 20 and noon Aug. 3. Ten users chosen at random will win prizes provided by LoHud.com/The Journal News and Steiner Sports. You must be a registered user to enter the contest. Only one user per household may win. If you are one of the 10 chosen, you will be notified by e-mail following the registration period.

The prizes are all Major League Baseball authorized autographed baseballs in glass display cases and will be awarded in the following order:

1. Derek Jeter
2. Alex Rodriguez (signed 2009 World Series ball)
3. Mariano Rivera
4. Andy Pettitte
5. Robinson Cano
6. Brett Gardner
7. Reggie Jackson
8. Whitey Ford with “CY 61″ inscribed
9. Yogi Berra
10. Marcus Thames

    RePost:

Since there is going to probably be a “registration push” today at around the time I’d normally start Guess the Line Up, I am going to start it now.

Guess the Line Up is Now Open for Business

I will accept lineups until 3 p.m. Good luck! :)

(I need to go out this afternoon from 2:30 to about 6, so I will post results later than usual.)

  2. Jerkface July 20th, 2010 at 11:02 am

Well, if I’m lucky enough to win any of these autographed baseballs, you just know it’s going to be the one signed by Marcus Thames. :)

Here’s a trade that would make sense if not for the fact that the Mets and Yankees don’t make major trades with each other.

Mets get: Joba, David Adams, McAllister

Yankees get: Carlos Beltran and Pedro Feliciano

I decided not to go with “Chlorine Doreen.” It’s like a tattoo – you have to be okay with the permanence of it. I’m too conservative – I have zero tattoos.

I have noticed the change. You would be disqualified.

  29. Doreen July 20th, 2010 at 11:21 am

    GF -

I have no problem with tattoos on other people. I just can’t see one on me. Not even a cute little butterfly or something like that. My sister go a butterfly on her ankle many years ago. Now, maybe inks or technique is better today, but the ink has faded on hers and it doesn’t look so cute anymore.

Also, I am not into voluntary discomfort. :)

I don’t think you’d need to trade Joba to get Carlos Beltran. He is coming off microfracture surgery.

  33. Icebird753 July 20th, 2010 at 11:24 am

I would burn the ball and throw it in a dumpster if I won Thames

FWIW, I would like to see the Yanks use the kids in the farm system to take over for Andy until he returns. Also, I am not convinced that we need to go outside the organization to help our bench. It would be GREAT to see Jesus in NY.

  40. Joe from Long Island July 20th, 2010 at 11:30 am

    Good morning, all ?

I remember the immortal Bobcat, a few years ago, and one of the best things he said was ?They let you know what they want you to know?.?

Joe G. has gone from ?We need Joba to be good? to ?We evaluate everybody every day?. There was a big story in Newsday today about the writer interviewing Cash, and Cash saying almost the exact same thing about Joba.

Robertson did a very nice job Sunday, coming into that situation and stopping the Rays cold. Joba was given the assignment of getting thru two innings, and in the second he let in a run. I?m sure Joe did not want to have to use Mariano for that one out; apart from wear and tear on Mo, Joe wanted to see Joba just get the job done. I think Joba?s failure to do so triggered these latest stories and quotes.

Everybody sees what?s been going on with Joba, so I don?t know how much trade value he has. I do think that he is running out of time with the Yankees. I really hope he gets it going, but, at some point you have to perform.

  41. Apple byte July 20th, 2010 at 11:30 am

Mitre was probably using as many secondary pitches as possible in his game last night to get a good feel with them. Let’s hope his 1st start is successful in building his confidence for his following starts. The bullpen will need to be sharp. Mitre shouldn’t be expected to go much past the 6th inning.

  42. Icebird753 July 20th, 2010 at 11:31 am

Can’t we put on Phil Hughes for Thames, and Teixeira for Gardner? Pretty please lol

  43. CountryClub July 20th, 2010 at 11:32 am

Mitre pitched just fine last night. Every ball put in play was on the ground. If you’re a sinker ball pitcher, that’s the most important stat of them all.

  44. Jerkface July 20th, 2010 at 11:33 am

And 2 of his runs were given up by a reliever’s HR.

  45. Joe from Long Island July 20th, 2010 at 11:35 am

Chip – I think the Mets would love to make that trade. I really think they want to unload Beltran and that contract.

Beltran as DH and parttime OF? Depends on his knee. I bet his medicals are very complicated. Not to mention the financial issues. Feliciano has been pretty consistent the past two years, and is lefty. I think he’d be one of the more marketable commodities the Mets have.

  46. Doreen July 20th, 2010 at 11:35 am

    Jerkface -

    I can try that.

As long as it’s not permanent.

Two reasons why I dislike the angels:
1)the lack of success we have had vs them in the last decade
2)their tv announcers via MLB Extra Innings are so annoying.

Tonight I’m forced to watch the game via the angels t.v. network :(

Don’t know who their announcers are now but Rex Hudler was “retired” so it’s better than it would have been last year.

while it would be my last choice, I would be happy to get a Thames ball.

I don’t mind the MY9 games except they are on some strange channel like 1027 for me, and I can’t record them if I am not around. There are no commercials on my MY9, so it feels like you are at the ballpark and you can sometimes hear the announcers between innings when they don’t know they are on the air. Once I heard Kenny singing “God Bless America”
