    Chad-

You meant Jeter. He’s gonna hit another inside the parker tonite. :)

Nick needs to stop climbing the wall when he has no chance to catch some of those home run balls that he doesn’t get close too. He does it way too much. No wonder his achilles is sore. Needs to be a little smarter. He has proven that he will do anything to win, no one doubts his desire.

  8. Giuseppe Franco July 23rd, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Not a big deal if he’s day-to-day. I’m sure he could probably use the rest.

  9. Don July 23rd, 2010 at 5:47 pm

Gardner’s having a good year, but clean up spot would have been over the top. I am glad that it was just a typo.

    Erica-

Only if your name happens to be Achilles. :)

    Hare today, Haren tomorrow?

Sorry, I’ve been out in the heat too long.

  12. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 5:49 pm

    It wasn’t a typo. That’s Chad’s sense of humor. :)

Hello Betsy! The Yanks view Phil as an ace SP and they do not want to push him too hard. The general feeling is that Phil is tiring. This is the most inning he has ever pitched in a season already and they want him for the Playoffs. He has a limit on innings during the regular season of not to exceed 170 innings. The problem is trying to keep him sharp and not over using him. The Yanks 2nd choice is probably move him to a setup guy in the playofs and all of September. He?d really be coasting having built up his arm strength and just having to pitch 1 inning. IMO, that is why the Yanks are looking for a new SP. A new SP will fill in for Andy, allow Mitre to move to the pen & when Andy comes back in Sept after rehabbing to make sure he is healthy, then Phil will pitch the 8th Inning.

I wonder if Swisher hurt it with that leap into the wall yesterday. He looked like it shook him up a bit.

Posada could definitely use a mental health day.

Tough news for DeJesus and for the Royals. I am sure they were counting on getting a decent return from trading him and there were a number of teams that were likely to be interested in obtaining his services.

I am sure the original was a lot more painful injury.

    Speaking of neurotransmitters.

I made a commitment last year to boost GABA and Serotonin levels in my brain.

They say our brains happy and relaxation chemicals become depleted due to stress and bad nutrition.

Since we have such high stress in our lives, most of us are suffering from some level of anxiety or depression or low energy or lack of focus.

I adopted a strict nutrition plan with vitamin supplements and a stress management plan to boot.

My stress went down and with it my stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.

Our body is engineered to produce these hormones in response to life threatening situations and they helped our ancestors escape wild predators and dangers.

Those threats were rare and thus stress hormone levels were much lower.

Now today, everything that is stressful causes a reaction that is meant to deal with life threatening situations.

The calmer you are, the lower your stress hormone levels.

I’m wondering if my adrenaline levels fell so low that my body lost its ability to counteract an overload of bee venom – and maybe that’s why I passed out unconscious for 2 minutes.

  20. Betsy July 23rd, 2010 at 5:56 pm

    Hi Ray!

Whether the Yankees view Phil as an ace or not, I don’t buy the fatigue thing. He’s been struggling for 2 months – was he fatigued in mid-May?

If the Yankees were this concerned about Phil tiring, then why didn’t he start the first 2 months or so in AAA? This doesn’t make sense. If they are looking for a SP, it’s because they are probably surprised he’s struggling so badly……..plus, Andy is hurt.

As you already know, I think it’s a bad move sending him to the pen for a month and a half, but if the Yankees don’t care that they will have all of these issues again with Phil next year, so be it.

  21. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 5:57 pm

You people are worried about Haren.

You know what I’m worried about.

How the heck I’m gonna drag my lazy a*s up that 11,000 ft peak I have to climb tomorrow. :)

  22. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 5:59 pm

    Bret-

    Um, no.

Take a look at how you responded to that guy in your face. ;)

  23. GreenBeret7 July 23rd, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Swisher’s a big guy and does a lot of running in the outfield. In this heat, it couls just be leg fatigue. It used to really get to guys in the field. Your legs and ankles and supporting tissues would ache…not hurt.

  24. Yogi Mantle July 23rd, 2010 at 6:02 pm

MTU – one step at a time.

As an older man, I still climb the various high peaks in my area and travel out west to climb them. Its mind over body and its best to focus on just making it to the next level area for a rest. Drink plenty of water!

    **********

Well, the epi-pen is stress hormone in a tube.

    It’s epinephrine.

My stress hormone levels are abnormally low.

I’m like a drone these days.

When that guy got in my face, a spoke calmly, felt relaxed and did not go on offense.

I was like Yoda when I told him he should turn around and walk away.

    Jedi mind trick.

  26. CK in LA July 23rd, 2010 at 6:02 pm

Haren is batting .364 …. a pitcher and a bat of the bench. ;-)

  27. Bret The Hitman July 23rd, 2010 at 6:03 pm

    edit: I spoke calmly.

  28. SJ44 July 23rd, 2010 at 6:03 pm

The Yankees have never said, publicly or privately, they are putting Phil Hughes in the bullpen for a month and a half.

In fact, if they did acquire another starter, it makes it easier to skip him if/when the need arises again.

  29. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 6:05 pm

    Yogi-

I was only kidding, but thanks for the support nevertheless.

And I absolutely will follow your admonition to drink plenty of H2O. :)

By the way, where is you area ?

  30. Chad Jennings July 23rd, 2010 at 6:05 pm

See what happens when you try to write something in four seconds and then sprint to the clubhouse.

If Brett Gardner is ever in the clean-up spot, the Yankees have bigger problems than Swisher’s achilles.

  31. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 6:07 pm

    Chad-

And I thought it was your wry sense of humor.

Won’t make that mistake again. :)

  32. stuart a July 23rd, 2010 at 6:08 pm

swisher is not a big guy. he is under 200 lbs…

swisher has had a very good year they need to be careful with him, achilles injuries are real bad.

swisher did botch that 1 play yesterday, he whiffed on the catch.

    jorge’s play was beyond a head shacker…..

  33. Nick in SF July 23rd, 2010 at 6:08 pm

Ain’t it just like LoHud to play tricks
When you’re trying to be so quiet
    We sit here stranded
Though we’re all doin’ our best to deny it
And DeJesus holds a hand full of pain tempting you to defy it

Lights flicker from the opposite blog
In this one the rumors make fog
The sports talk station plays soft
But there’s nothing, really nothing to turn off

Just DeJesus and his surgeon so entwined
And these visions of Dan Haren
    That conquer my mind

  34. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 6:11 pm

    Nick-

    Shakespeare no doubt.

  35. John M Millport July 23rd, 2010 at 6:11 pm

Achilles injuries can be quite tricky.

Could be out for a fortnight unless he gets some rest so probably best he misses this game.

  36. Betsy July 23rd, 2010 at 6:12 pm

SJ, didn’t you say before that Cashman never reveals his intentions (or something like that)? It’s the only thing that makes sense – they are not going with a 6 man rotation.

  37. Betsy July 23rd, 2010 at 6:13 pm

I’m more interested in seeing what they do with Phil in between his skipped starts. I don’t blame them for his troubles, but on the other hand, they aren’t helping things……..Joe suggested they might change up his routine.

  38. MTU July 23rd, 2010 at 6:13 pm

If I’ve told Nick once I’ve told him a thousand times not to kick those cow carcassses. They are strictly for punching.

    He’ll never learn.

    Nick,

That’s just very well done. Very well done indeed.

  42. BJK July 23rd, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Another blemish to Girardi’s GTLU record.

  43. Niblick July 23rd, 2010 at 6:24 pm

    Chad,

Two catchers today? That’s just what AJ needs. Two guys to shake off. Two guys to blame when he “doesn’t have his command”.

  44. upstate kate July 23rd, 2010 at 6:24 pm

It must be hard for a pitcher to be sharp after a skipped start. As I understand it, the end result is to have him rested and able to help in whatever role is necessary in the post season.
I don’t blame the Yankees for the ever changing Joba rules. It seemed as though Joba had problems adjusting to whatever was tried…skipping starts, shorter outings etc. so they would try something different. Not everyone is as adaptable to changing situations.
And Phil is not the only young pitcher struggling lately, Price and Bucky had bad starts their last time as well. I am sure he will be fine.

  45. ron July 23rd, 2010 at 6:38 pm

Hughes is probably not going to develope any more pitches during a tight pennant race.He will pitch conservatively not to mention the yankees are not going to trust him the way he has been pitching.
He might as well go to the pen,he’s been getting lit up lately.

Imo we are going to have a new pitcher within a week & hughes is in the pen.

  46. GreenBeret7 July 23rd, 2010 at 6:45 pm

Swisher is just under 6 feet tall and close to 210-215 pounds. That’s big enough to cause some problems in this heat.
