One of the guys on MLB Network just asked if Randy Winn gets a full share if they win it all. Who is even thinking about that right now? What a dumb question.
no posada.
i guess he would sit today or tommorrow
wow, Matt V. on MLB is an idiot; he just asked : if the Yankees win the WS, who among Thames, Johnson or Winn get full playoff shares. I can’t believe that the other guys had to remind him that Johnson and Thames are still on the team.
the 39 year old catcher is a 80 game a year guy. next season things need to change behind the plate. they can only do similar to this year next if they have 3 catchers on the roster…
Man, every time I make a comment, a new post goes up. haha
Yanks added 3 legit players for 5 mil. Great job by Cash.
Why no Po?
The only problem with this lineup is that Gardner should leadoff.
when you have sit Posada 1/3 , that is a problem. hence, i rather have seen the yanks going after an offensive catcher .
Maybe Girardi is batting Berkman 2nd to get his bat going. Batting before Tex and Arod is a great place to hit. But if he doesn’t hit right away they will have to move him down since Jeter isn’t hitting at all.
Posada was either sitting today or tomorrow. Relax.
I wouldn’t move Swisher and I like Berkman. Was hoping for him 2 mths. ago.
Mick-
I think Joe G. said that Posada would catch only 2 of 3 so I guess he decided that tonite was his night to sit.
He’ll be back in there tomorrow.
MLB K Wood: “I’m excited to go pitch in a pennant race & get a chance to get in a postseason & win championships. That’s why we play the game.”
Too bad I would have liked to see the Yankees lineup at full strength today. I like Cervelli though so its all good. Its much more important to give Posada some rest if the Yankees feel he needs it.
Hmm, I’m surprised thought Joe would hit him 6th
Guess Girardi’s thinking is to maximize his plate discipline in the 2 hole.
Despite his down season Berkman still has a .372 OBP
which would put him 5th on the Yankees
His strikeout to walk ratio is always very close, 60 BB to 70 K’s this season
1040 BB to 1121 K’s in his careerr, doesn’t get much closer than that.
Could see Joe’s thinking in putting him 2nd especially against righty starters
The guy on ESPNRadio this morning was saying that acquring Berkman would place Posada at risk of further injury, by forcing him to play C more. I disagree. This move will allow Joe to sit Posada to give him complete days off, instead of only partial days at DH. Joe’s plan, all along, was to play Jorge at C 3 of 4-5 games, only. Now, he will be able to fully rest him, and not use both Cs at the same time.
Jorge will be fresher for October. That’s the bottom line, getting the team ready for October.
My prediction for Berkman: 0-4 against Garza tonight … but with a walk.
The Full Berkman Effect on the lineup should be felt tomorrow.

If I agree (and I do), does that mean a public flogging?
‘Just DFA Reegie Corona to open a spot on the 40 for Kearns. Never quite understood why he was added in the first place’
———————————————–
neither do I. Had watched Corona play in Tampa-A (along with Cervelli). Corona is minor league fille
MLB Kerry Wood said he talked to Joe Girardi & Brian Cashman. “Just gonna mix & match me with guys down there at the end.” #Yankees
True MTU, forgot he played last night.
Berkman has a .370 OBP with power. That’s why he’s hitting 2nd. And his OBP is much higher if you go from June 1st.

Berkman did steal 18 bases in 2008.

Then where do you bat Jeter if Berkman is 2nd?
I guess you could go
Gardner
Jeter
Tex
Alex
Cano
Swisher
Berkman
Granderson
Cervelli
Verducci just put a great spin on the Yankees moves on MLB.
They got:
Another team?s cleanup hitter and are batting him second.
Another team?s starting leftfielder and are bringing him off the bench.
Another team?s closer, who they?ll likely use in the 7th inning.
All of that for no prospects of value.
Can anyone remember the Red Sox acting like such neuters in recent memory
@mac, can’t really go wrong with Swisher or Berkman, (this would be a good test of berkman’s bat speed ) as Garza throws lot of fastballs. I rather see gardner leadoff, but we all know that’s not realistic becuase of Jeter.
Kerry could be a jack of all trades guy like Aceves.
all right, we will see.
Welcome, and good luck!

Welcome to the dark side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great news!

It’s official. #Nationals did not trade Dunn. Just like they did not trade A. Soriano a few years back. #MLB
didn’t know if i was for or against the Austin Kearns pick-up. Now that i know he is related to Joanna Kearns, i am for the trade. Used to love me some Growing Pains. Well not really

We’re in dream land with that ever happening
Derek really needs to raise his OBP as a guy who is counted on to start rallies for this team
I can take the declined AVG and SLG, but the OBP he has to raise.
The groundouts are deflating to watch.
Hopefully he gets on a hot streak in August, September and into the playoffs
The Red Sox are an in-between team because they have so many guys out hurt that getting people back progressively is like making trades, plus they are far enough out in the standings that it’s extremely risky for them to go full-tilt after players that are rentals in that it could end up being a complete waste of resources for 2 months of season that don’t result in a postseason. So I am not surprised they didn’t do anything of consequence. They will bank on getting their “big guys” back and see if they can play their way back into the race.
Andrew – what you smokin’ bro?

I can’t disagree.
BryanHoch Yankees have designated Chan Ho Park for assignment; optioned Colin Curtis & Juan Miranda to AAA
Posada and Kearns off the bench…not bad…but look forward to seeing 4 switch hitters and no holes in the line up…
I call it the white flag of surrender
Thats a pretty good lineup
Ho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no more Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooo! TY, Ninja Cash.
Park is gone, sayonara.
Maybe Posada’s out today due to pitching/hitting matchups.
Berkman hitting second isn’t bad, putting Swish in back of Cano seems to give some protection to Cano.
I am really irritated by hearing MLB Network saying over and over that the rich get richer. Not for anything, but every one of them have been paid very well over their careers, they are what most people would call rich, yet they got contracts to talk on TV. That is every bit a case of the “rich getting richer”. What hypocrites.
What did we learn these past few days?
We learned that Hal is just like his dad.
If you present a good argument to add payroll and go for it, he will do it.
To do so though, you have to make a good business decision.
To add these three players for only 5 million in payroll and trading a few non-prospects is a good enough business decision to have ownership sign off on adding more to the payroll.
Hal isn’t cheap. He’s VERY smart and he has learned the baseball business quickly.
Just because you are the Yankees doesn’t mean you can’t have teams kick in money to get rid of players. Cash established the precedent last year in the Hinske deal.
That was only 400K. However, it set the stage for teams to kick in 6 million dollars in the Wood and Berkman deals.
Solid work by Cash.
The Yankees are a better team today than they were yesterday.
way to go cash

Took long enough for one of those stiffs to go, Park was good against righties
Can’t get lefties out worth a darn though.
Next up is Gaudin on the hit list when Aceves is back
Kerry Wood a bridge to Mo? How does getting a pitcher with an ERA of 6.30, 32 men on base in 20 innings going to get that done better than Joba. Did Cash trade for the current Kerry Wood, while looking at his 2007 numbers. To me that’s no different than putting Joba out there, and expecting him to perform like it’s 2007.

You actually pay attention to what those guys have to say
I pay them no mind
Nothing they say, Nothing, is going to stop the Yankees from trying to succeed
HATERS will only be happy when the Yankees are the New York Mets in performance.
Too bad for them they’ll be waiting a long time for that pipe dream of theirs.
What an absurdly deep line-up.
AL…
Kerry Wood >>>>>>>> Chan Ho Park at no significant additional cost.
If I recall, Wood’s ERA was elevated by one abysmal performance early on where he gave up multiple runs (don’t remember how many, though) in 1/3 inning. Even 2 runs would = 54 ERA for that outing. And I don’t believe he’s pitched that many innings this year either.
If still in doubt, see paragraph 1
