Berkman: Whatever they want me to do, I’ll do it

Lance Berkman said Andy Pettite was a huge part of his decision to waive his no-trade to come to the Yankees.

He’s not sure how often he’ll play, but he said it’s his understanding that he might bat second initially.

    Most improved team: Rangers

    Biggest failures: Red Sox

Rosenthal: “Much bigger” deal on the way for Braves.

My father gave his stamp of approval for Berkman; he said he’s always liked him……plus, he remembers when the Yankees used to make these moves all the time (bringing in aging vets and hoping being with a contender would help). He used Johnny Mize as an example

ankeil and farnsworth is not a ‘much bigger’ deal. rosenthal is nuts

Is there any truth to the post in last blog that Ken Igawa is the PTBNL in the Woods trade?

  7. MTU July 31st, 2010 at 4:13 pm

    Bret-

Really ? Has Rosenthal advanced Einstein’s theories and built a time machine so he can turn back time.

It was my understanding that the TD had passed.

MLB Network is right – everyone looks good in pinstripes.

  9. blake July 31st, 2010 at 4:13 pm

    I bet its Dunn.

  10. Crash July 31st, 2010 at 4:15 pm

Why would Girardi take Swisher out of the 2 hole. Swisher is a better hitter right now that Berkman. Berkman should be hitting 7th or 8th in this lineup.

“Why would Girardi take Swisher out of the 2 hole.”

    Protection for Cano?

  12. blake July 31st, 2010 at 4:16 pm

    eh its Farnsworth and Ankiel….

  13. Betsy July 31st, 2010 at 4:16 pm

    AmalieBenjamin:

    Quote:
Ramon Ramirez has been traded to the Giants.

    ******

For Jonathan Sanchez? Doesn’t make much sense…Sanchez was apparently seen hugging teammates in the clubhouse.

Imagine being Farnsworth/Ankiel going from the Royals to a contender like the Braves? Wasn’t Farnsworth a Brave previously?

Good old Andy. He’s not only a great pitcher but a terrific recruiter as well.

    Thanks Andy. :)

  15. CR9 July 31st, 2010 at 4:16 pm

MLB Network was right about that. Every player that sticks on the pinstripes looks hotter!

  16. yankswin27 July 31st, 2010 at 4:16 pm

    Jeter SS
    Berkman DH
    Teixeira 1B
    Rodriguez 3B
    Cano 2B
    Posada C
    Granderson CF
    Swisher RF
    Gardner LF

I’d rather Swisher hit 2nd and Berkman 6th, but whatever.

Berkman fits in that he’s a patient hitter which the lineup has many of to Girardi’s liking. Another player to drive up pitch counts on opposing pitchers. Everything to like about it.

  18. SJ44 July 31st, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Sanchez is not being traded to the Red Sox for Ramirez.

  19. Rich in NJ July 31st, 2010 at 4:18 pm

There was a time when I wanted the Yankees to get Berkman to replace Bernie in CF.

  20. jacksquat July 31st, 2010 at 4:18 pm

    Is there no GTLU today?

Maybe we could run an “unofficial” GTLU, just post your guess and see if you’re right?

  21. Betsy July 31st, 2010 at 4:18 pm

Berkman on MLB live right now………..

“it feels good, but weird” to be a Yankee, lol

  22. MTU July 31st, 2010 at 4:19 pm

We’ll have to see how much gas in the tank berkman still has but one thing he will give us are patient professional at bats.

And that has to be good. :)

  23. CountryClub July 31st, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Rich, the Yanks just added 3 players for 5 million dollars. That is not excessive. Any other team in baseball could have added Kearns and his 300k or Wood and his 1.5 mil (indians picking up rest of money owed him). Stop acting like the Yanks just added 15 mil of salary.

  24. Cashmoney July 31st, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Ninja Cash did his thing, IMO , gave up nothing and bought low… we will see.
Still need a uti guy replace the woeful Pena. looks like a jaggernaut team on paper to me, let’s me if we can beat Tampa tonight and Javy can survive in a ‘big’ game.

  25. Rich in NJ July 31st, 2010 at 4:20 pm

    Joelsherman1

There also is a sliding scale if Wood misses time to injury then #Indians would get less $ or could do combo of dollars/prospects

  26. rconn23 July 31st, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Farnsworth’s finale for the Braves was giving up a meltdown… grand slam to Lance Berkman in the playoffs.

    Good luck with that.

I know the Braves needed another outfield bat, but Ankiel is not a good player at all.

  27. GreenBeret7 July 31st, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Will Ohman traded to the Marlins

  28. Rich in NJ July 31st, 2010 at 4:21 pm

    CountryClub

I think you overrate the resources of most teams.

    Start acting like a realist.

  29. Dylan July 31st, 2010 at 4:22 pm

The Yankees lineup is finally circular again!

    Jeter
    Berkman
    Tex
    Arod
    Cano
    Posada
    Swisher
    Granderson
    Gardner

That lineup is better than last year when you consider how much Gardner and Swisher have improved.
