This might have already been said, but what is the point of keeping BOTH Kearns and Thames on the team to come off the bench?

Chad Qualls is hardly an upgrade, though he'll benefit from that infield defense.

Can't see keeping Curtis over Thames. That spot is going to get minimal playing time and Curtis is a young guy who needs to play every day if possible.

Thames should still DH against LHP with Granderson sitting out a few of those and Kearns in LF. Berkman is much better against RHP.

Ed,

No, I don't think so. They are moving into a new ballpark in a couple of years and they are beginning to realize that if they keep dismantling the team, its going to be tough to sell tickets.

Especially in a market where most sports fans are saving their money to buy Heat tickets and Dolphins tickets.

They are trying to do a multi-year with Uggla and Nolasco now and that's a departure from what they usually do. Mainly because if they don't, they won't sell tickets in the new place.

werth is the type of guy that reminds me me a little of preston wilson, a few great years and then a dramatic fall off. if he signs for 4/65 or 5/80, that's going to be a really tough contract to deal with.

crawford is a guy cb says that is dependent on his legs. maybe not the type of guy to whom you want commit a lot of years.

lee is pinstripes puts a smile on my face. you worry less about the bullpen when you have cc and lee giving you 8 innings a start. you give guys like brackman, banuelos etc the chance to break into the bullpen aka young master phil.

it's a great time to be a yankee fan

Rich in NJ,

Since he's only 26, I'm more inclined to believe his slight uptick in WHIP is due to league adjustments.

It's still extremely difficult for offenses to mount much of a late threat against him.

It has been for the last 4 years of seeing the same or similar divisional foes over and over again.

Remember how the Red Sox started to adjust to Mo?

I think the biggest thing to help Tampa this year was Joaquin Benoit. Yes, Soriano has done his job in the 9th, but to get there....Benoit was signed for nothing, with a very unimpressive resume, coming off major shoulder surgery and not pitching in a year - and been virtually lights out. Besides their starting rotation staying intact all year, he's been the biggest reason they're the second best team in baseball.

This young guy Tomlin that's pitching for Cleveland is impressive again, so far. He seems to have the guts of Greg Maddux. If he ever gets that size of a strike zone, look out. retired the first 6 batters, the last 3 on strikeouts.
