Brian Heyman here again for Chad at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees all gathered in uniform behind home plate to pose for the annual team picture at 3:45, but Alex Rodriguez was nowhere to be found. The photographer eventually had to use a stand in, the team’s director of publications, Al Santasiere III, and he will digitally become A-Rod in the photo. Joe Girardi indicated a fine from the teams’ Kangaroo Court would be forthcoming.
“Captain Kangaroo is probably going to get Alex for this one,” Girardi said with a smile. “Players aren’t always the best at reading memos put on their chairs.”
Girardi also said he didn’t think Rodriguez was pressing for his 600th homer. …
After another inconsistent performance by A.J. Burnett on Monday night, Girardi said he wasn’t buying that this up-and-down nature will be the norm throughout the right-hander’s time here.
“I refuse to accept that,” Girardi said. …
Curtis Granderson is out of the lineup with left-hander Ricky Romero starting, and Austin Kearns is in his place, albeit in left with Brett Gardner moving to center. But Girardi indicated that Granderson hasn’t become strictly a platoon player and will still get some at-bats vs. lefties.
