New little guy for the big man

Congratulations to CC Sabathia and his wife, Amber, who today welcomed their fourth child. According to the Yankees, the Sabathia’s newest son, Carter Charles Sabathia, was born at 5:44 p.m. He entered this world at 5-foot-10, 205 pounds.

Actually, if you want to believe the Yankees, little CC was considerably shorter than five feet and weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces. But give him time.

Phil’s innings limits won’t matter once the post-season rolls around – the Yanks have made a point of of saying that. I guess we’ll have to see how he pitches the rest of the year……….RAB had a good article on him and how his FB has found new life again.

    Aww, congrats to the Sabathias……..

Congrats to CC and his wife. 5’10” That’s pretty funny Chad. And thank you for all the hard work you do and for registration.

    MTU

I wouldn’t worry about both. Killer will take one look at Nurse Youk and run away. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named however, I have but one answer. Use your hiking skills, run like hell and hide.

  7. MTU August 5th, 2010 at 7:40 pm

There’s way too many CC’s around. There’s CC, and cc (crawford), and now micro cc.

Man. I just handle this anymore. I’m getting confused.

Couldn’t CC just have done us all a favor and just called the new addition Ray. :)

  8. Betsy August 5th, 2010 at 7:41 pm

    Great article on Kerry Wood….

It’s sad, but the fact that he’s not bitter is pretty remarkable. I really want him to do well here – he seems like a terrific guy.

Mesa is generating a lot of power with a 165 lb. frame. Plenty of room to grow into his body.

    ———————————————————————————————————————-

Mesa has put on a little weight…maybe 170-175 pounds. Fast hands and strong wrists make for a lightening fast bat.

Montero walked and Laird singled in his first at bat.

  12. CR9 August 5th, 2010 at 7:46 pm

Congrats CC, that was a funny intro Chad.

For those who only want to think the worst of Alex:

    http://www.theyankeeu.com/2010.....mate-20329

When people ask about Alex, I just remain truthful. He is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen. His drive and passion to win are above any individual accomplishments he could achieve. On top of all that, he is an amazing teammate. After the trade, he called me within minutes to welcome me to the team. Other players followed, but he made that first phone call and made me feel welcome. When I came to New York for my press conference to be announced as a Yankee a week later, Alex flew in from Florida to show his support. He has helped me with everything else in New York from hitting to which route is the best to take home after a game.

I think it’s easier for people to get caught up and judge people based on what they see on “SportsCenter,” or read on Page 6 or even here on Big League Stew, but just remember that you don’t always get the whole story that way. I’ve had a lot of teammates in my career when you consider my time in the minor leagues, in Detroit and here in New York. But there is no doubt that Alex Rodriguez is one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.

  14. MTU August 5th, 2010 at 7:52 pm

    Gb-

    Thanks.

The website had him listed at 165 so it’s good to hear he has put on a little weight.

He’s 6’1′” so he sounded like he was a kind of on the lean side.

Additional weight will just make him stronger.

The strong wrists and fast bat won’t be affected by that.

Has Montero recovered fully from being hit on the wrist ? He was on quite a tear before the injury.

  15. Mike in Chicago August 5th, 2010 at 7:54 pm

Mazal tov, mabrouk, and congratulations to CC and Amber! We had our daughter just days after the Yankees won the World Series, and I know firsthand the wonder of this event. Having a child is the most amazing and important thing that has ever happened in my life.

Wishing little CC a life of blessings, happiness and health.

If that doesn’t “motivate” AJ, I don’t know what would.

    Disgraceful headline by Daily News

  23. Anthony Murillo August 5th, 2010 at 8:17 pm

We all know that Alex Rodriguez took steroids from 2001-2003 (people may think he took it longer but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt). The guy has changed so much recently, he’s a freaking World Series Champion for crying out loud, something so many people thought would never happen. We was clutch as can be in the post-season and isn’t putting his foot in his mouth anymore. We understand it’s tainted; why couldn’t your headline say “Rodriguez finally nails controversial homerun”? Why go for the low blow?

I won’t be purchasing the Daily news any time soon. It isn’t fit to line the bottom of my birds cage.

  26. GreenBeret7 August 5th, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Yeah, MTU, Montero appears to be fully recovered. He has about 30 games left, so I’d guess that he finished around 15-16 homers, 65 RBI and .280. That’s pretty good for a 20 year old catcher in AAA.

  27. MTU August 5th, 2010 at 8:23 pm

Any of you folks who read these tabloids that pass for sports writing.

I have a suggestion for you.

Get yourself a puppy or a parakeet, and use that section of the paper for them to crap on.

That way nothing gets wasted, and you won’t angry reading tripe.

And the animals will have a good spot on which to eliminate. :)

  28. theREALkevin August 5th, 2010 at 8:23 pm

bottom line, that headline won’t bother Alex, so it shouldn’t bother anyone else either. true peace and happiness come from within, nobody what anyone thinks or is saying about you. the daily news doesn’t make a bit of difference. they just want sales. they are a business and as a player and a businessman alex would understand that.

  29. Joe from Long Island August 5th, 2010 at 8:24 pm

Congrats to big CC. I wonder if this is why he was a little off his game the past few starts.

  30. Betsy August 5th, 2010 at 8:24 pm

I don’t buy the News, but I usually check it out on line. I think I’ll stop now – it’s not like there’s anyone worth reading anyway.

  32. Phil in Columbus August 5th, 2010 at 8:26 pm

It is a shame that the Daily News had to hit so low. Are they a New York newspaper? I’m sure that Arod will handle it with class, but a few well spoken words into the ears of the DN beat writers by a couple of Arod’s teammates are surely needed. Like in a corner of the locker room, one on one.

  33. GreenBeret7 August 5th, 2010 at 8:26 pm

Montero struck out and Laird hit one to the middle of the warning track in left. He’s in a slump. Hitless in his last at bat and only 102 tonight.

  34. GreenBeret7 August 5th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

last at bat and only ***1-2*** tonight.

    Thanks. I was just wondering.

You’re right, that would be an excellent line.

If you take out that one bad Month he had his line would be even better.

Hope he finishes with a flourish. Still needs some work on the Catching skills I guess.

Wonder if he will play winter ball this year in Chavez land ? :)

  36. WMD August 5th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Tomlin pitched like Cy Young against Yanks and of course coughs up grand slam to Beltre like the rest of the crappy Indian rotation when playing Boston

  37. m August 5th, 2010 at 8:28 pm

Not excusing the writers at all. But they have claimed that the paper does the headlines. Especially the lame ones.

  38. Betsy August 5th, 2010 at 8:28 pm

That’s very sweet of Damon to say……

  39. Jennifer August 5th, 2010 at 8:29 pm

M- but aren’t the headlines based on the articles? at least they should be.

  40. m August 5th, 2010 at 8:30 pm

    WWD,

Was not happy to see that, either. Perhaps just spotting Matsuzaka 3 runs? Let’s see what they do with this leadoff double. Now it’s man on 3rd, 1 out.

  41. Betsy August 5th, 2010 at 8:30 pm

I’m not saying the writers came up with that, but they still have crappy writers. The DN editors are beyond pathetic…………

Everytime someone calls them a newspaper or even refers to them it should be with an * after it.

  42. Bo knows August 5th, 2010 at 8:30 pm

Mesa is now 2 for 3, his second hit a single to the SS. His HR was hit to Right Center. Mesa is a RH hitter so that was to opposite field. Not bad for a skinny kid.

  43. Betsy August 5th, 2010 at 8:31 pm

This is his 3rd major league start; are we really going to crap on him for struggling?

  44. GreenBeret7 August 5th, 2010 at 8:31 pm

Yeah, Montero’s defense will most likely always be a work in progress. One thing that you can’t take away from him is his willingness to work hard at it.

  45. m August 5th, 2010 at 8:31 pm

    Jennifer,

Yes, but I’ve seen headlines totally misconstrue what’s in the article. They’re quite inflammatory at times. Haven’t read this one, but the editors didn’t do the DN writers any favors here.

  46. pat August 5th, 2010 at 8:34 pm

ESPN analysts says Jeter took “shots” at A-Rod in postgame interview.

This is the kind of stuff that if the roles were reversed would lead to “drama” that people always complain about. Video if you scroll down.

    http://www.sportsgrid.com/mlb/.....st-and-10/

  47. Betsy August 5th, 2010 at 8:36 pm

I won’t even read that, Pat – whatever these clowns have to say, it’s not worth my time. Not that it’s necessary to say, but I don’t believe it for a moment.

  48. MTU August 5th, 2010 at 8:37 pm

    GB-

The Catching bar doesn’t have to be set too high for Jesus with his type of bat.

I can’t see him not being up to the Piazza standard, if not better.

And , if in fact, he is as hard a worker as you say then I certainly see it happening eventually (becoming a decent catcher). :)

  49. Jeremy August 5th, 2010 at 8:37 pm

Yeah I saw the Daily News headline. The thing is that you would expect something like that from the Boston writers but it seems like New York writers love to trash New York teams.

And if the homerun chase is not a big deal according to the media than why report on it.

  50. jesusmonterofordh August 5th, 2010 at 8:39 pm

the daily news can stuff it

  51. Jeremy August 5th, 2010 at 8:40 pm

ESPN is nothing more than an extension of NESN and the Boston Globe. Anything they have to say means nothing.

  52. blake August 5th, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Ridiculous headline…just more of newspaers reporting their opinion of the news rather than reporting the actual news….newspapers see the writing on the wall….they are becoming irrelevent and they are just trying to sell papers…..

Sounds like Mesa is on his way to adding another stud to the Yankee prospect list.

  53. pat August 5th, 2010 at 8:49 pm

Dice K has been too economical with his pitches. Need the bullpen used a little tonight.

  54. CR9 August 5th, 2010 at 8:50 pm

And like I always say, the New York media is also against the Yankees. They’d rather insult the Yankees or try to create controversy than see the Yankees succeed.

  55. Nat August 5th, 2010 at 8:50 pm

What is absurd about the headline is 1, all their headlines before he hit it (whining, complaining, criticizing) and 2, they are selling AROD milestone items.

Guess, that tained milestone isn’t so tainted that they can’t make a buck off of it.

I did like reading the pitchers talk about him as a hitter, especially Andy’s comments. Seems obvious ARod has a high baseball IQ, too bad the media seems more interested in ripping him and stating he’s not a true Yankee instead of sitting down and talking baseball. We as fans are the ones missing out on their inability to set their biases aside. I would love to hear him talk baseball.

But at this point, even if someone tried to do that I wouldn’t blame him for not trusting them and thinking it was a set up. Hopefully there are a few out there who he trusts who will make it happen.

  56. SAS August 5th, 2010 at 8:54 pm

The newspaper industry is suffering badly. Now the DN just ticked off another group of people. If a company does that on a daily weekly basis, it will go out of business. We don’t get it so no lose in this house.

  57. Jeremy August 5th, 2010 at 8:55 pm

    CR9
I agree. But it’s just not the Yankees it’s all New York teams in general. They go after the Yankees more but they trash New York teams.

It’s funny because the Boston media acts like shills for the Red Sox. All they do is spout bs to make them look good.

  58. Jennifer August 5th, 2010 at 8:56 pm

Didn’t clock on the video to watch. But i heard Jeter’s post game comments and he was JOKING. these people have to be kidding me with Jeter taking shots at Alex. Anything to try and stir up controversy where their is none. they are probably ticked as all hell that this team has no controversy this year.

  59. Joe from Long Island August 5th, 2010 at 8:59 pm

blake – couldn’t agree with you more. If anything, it’s getting worse due to all the media outlets online. That means that each outlet has to scream louder in order to be heard/read/get hits. Not a proud moment for journalism.

  60. Jeremy August 5th, 2010 at 8:59 pm

I see articles from New York writers trashing Cashman, trashing New York players, and it goes on and on. While the Boston media is calling Theo Epstein the greatest thing since Jesus.

Well I guess it’s nice not to have a PR machine.

    —————————

Yep. They are the exact opposite of the Boston media (and by extension, ESPN, FOX, SI, etc.), which props its teams up and always defends its team.

Nick Cafardo wrote an article after we lost to them opening night talking about how the Sox are ready to take over the league and the Yanks have too many flaws. Catch a NY writer ever doing that… they would write that the Sox showed resiliency in defeat and will bounce back.

  62. Jeremy August 5th, 2010 at 9:01 pm

Journalism has been dead since the 70′s. Sad but true.

  63. SAS August 5th, 2010 at 9:02 pm

The news itself is biased today. Most everything that is reported has an editorial spin. You have to hear what a person says and the read it. You wouldn’t know it is the news.

The Daily News is the flagship paper of the Mets, FYI.

SNY is a partner of the Daily News (thus, their show “Daily News Live”). Their writers get paid by SNY, and in turn, the Mets

  68. CR9 August 5th, 2010 at 9:11 pm

    Jeremy and Melk Man

Yes. The New York media and National media doesn’t like any New York team – sans Mike Lupica and his love of the Mets. The NY media wants to see all NY teams fail, but the Yankees first and foremost.

And Yes. The Boston and National media are schills for the Red Sox, and try to make them look good, so as to drive up the fandom of their clubs.

They make the Boston teams into the underdog – and who doesn’t want to root for an underdog. This season – if the Red Sox fail – will be blamed solely on injuries, while the 2008 Yankees were not given the same excuse.

But how in the world can anybody believe that the Celtics – the leader in NBA titles – are the underdogs? Not sure, but like Kevin Garnett said “ANYTHING’S POSSSSSSIBLE!”

  69. CB August 5th, 2010 at 9:11 pm

One of the better newspaper articles I’ve seen in quite some time was written by Marc Carig today – it was a very strong analysis of Alex’s swing mechanics. Very good article, the kind you don’t see in newspapers very often. Very analytic and objective.

I haven’t seen that article linked to or discussed very much in the Yankee’s blogosphere.

Contrast that to the NY Daily News’ awful back cover from today which has drawn significant (and appropriate) criticism – and commentary today.

That’s the crux of the issue. Carig writes a great piece and is largely ignored. The News is insulting and inflammatory and gets talked about.

There’s so much noise now the worst thing media outlets and journalists can be is ignored. That’s why they want to make themselves the story.

Writer’s for the Boston paper’s are no different. Just take a look at Dan Shauneggsy’s ridiculous article yesterday about Jacoby Ellsbury.

    Here’s the Carig article.
