Burnett pushed to Tuesday

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Aug 08, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

A.J. Burnett has been pushed to Tuesday because of tightness in his back. He felt or yesterday while throwing on flat ground.

“He is much improved today,” Joe Girardi said.

Phil Hughes will start tomorrow. Burnett asked to make the start today, but the Yankees decided to play it safe.

Alex Rodriguez will take batting practice to test his ankle/shin injury. Girardi said the lineup is subject to change.

Ok, I asked this in the other thread, but when would Hughes’ throw day have been since he was preparing to start Tuesday?

  2. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:17 pm

LOL People are already accusing AJ of faking it so he wouldn’t have to face the Sox.

  3. Giuseppe Franco August 8th, 2010 at 5:19 pm

NYPost_Kernan Aj must be major problem, eiland wouldn’t talk about y he’s been scratched

    ———

That’s what Kernan said about 15 min ago.

I guess so that’s what happens when you speculate based on very little info. You sound like a buffoon, which is certainly nothing new for Kernan.

    Wake has one more year.

I agree it probably will be in the pen.

I agree on Dice K but they probably will have to eat a good chunk of the money.

You’re either slipping or having a bad day. No smart remarks about my voices.

  5. Crash August 8th, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Good news that it isn’t anything too serious. Bad news for Hughes I thought him getting an extra day would of helped him plus he has a history of dominating Texas.

  6. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:22 pm

Well, back spasms aren’t anything to play around with; Beckett had them a couple of years ago – and who knows? They could recur at any time…………

  7. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Better to be safe then sorry.

  8. Eduardo August 8th, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Better to be safe than sorry.

No I just thought you got into some moonshine.

Just don’t light a match around it.

OK, now the world is spinning normal. My day is complete.

  10. SJ44 August 8th, 2010 at 5:24 pm

There isn’t a day in the season that ANY pitcher doesn’t have some sort of pain in their body.

Its the hazzards of the profession.

If they are already penciling him in for Tuesday, its a minor thing and the extra couple of days will help.

Its the time of the year, everybody is hurting. The price you pay when you play 162 games in 180 days and for pitchers, to do something as unnatural as throwing a baseball with such force over a long period of time.

  11. Giuseppe Franco August 8th, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Back spasms are no fun. It’s hard enough trying to tie your shoes much less pitch in a big league game.

  12. Erin August 8th, 2010 at 5:25 pm

That’s good-doesn’t seem too serious with AJ

  13. Erin August 8th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Ledger_Yankees Aceves will throw 1 inn in rehab on Tuesday, 2 inn on Friday.

  14. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Mosely could do ok me thinks. Just keep us in the game.

  15. jpb173 August 8th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

This makes tomorrow’s pitching matchup (Hughes vs Lester) a little more winnable. Before the series started I didn’t like either the Sunday or the Monday matchup. The Sunday matchup (Mosely vs Beckett) doesn’t look too much worse than before but I feel better about tomorrow’s matchup.

  16. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

This is the first time AJ has missed a start since he’s been a Yankee – not bad.

I suppose Hughes prepared to start as if pitching tomorrow was a possibility; this is not how I wanted him to go, but so be it. Hopefully he’ll be able to keep the ball in the park

  17. Erin August 8th, 2010 at 5:27 pm

Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:26 pm

Mosely could do ok me thinks

    **********************************
I think so too. I actually thought he did pretty well in his last start even though he got the loss.

  18. Erin August 8th, 2010 at 5:27 pm

JackCurryYES So it will be Moseley and Hughes in the last 2 games of the Red Sox series and Burnett opening the series against Texas on Tuesday.

  19. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Me too Erin. That homer by Snyder was a fluke.

  20. Fran the original August 8th, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Ledger_Yankees Aceves will throw 1 inn in rehab on Tuesday, 2 inn on Friday.
    **************************
That is good news. Hope Aceves comes back soon.

  21. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:29 pm

Who goes when Ace returns? I hope not Logan.

  22. Joe from Long Island August 8th, 2010 at 5:30 pm

Who knows, maybe Moseley dominates today. Maybe his offspeed stuff throws them off. Only one way to find out.

  23. Captain Clutch August 8th, 2010 at 5:31 pm

It’s nice to see Arod back in the lineup and I am sure Posada was only put in once AJ was scratched. The offense is really going to have to go to work tonight against Beckett with Moseley on the mound.

  24. CNight_Up August 8th, 2010 at 5:31 pm

    Gaudin goes when Ace returns…

  25. jpb173 August 8th, 2010 at 5:31 pm

Who goes when Ace returns? I hope not Logan.

    ———————————————————————————————–

Its possible that the Yankees might let Aceves rehab until the rosters expand on September 1st. Then they wouldn’t have to get rid of anybody.

  26. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:32 pm

Yeah seems to be the move. I really hope when Marte comes back Logan stays.

Thats why you wear slip ons.

  28. Disco August 8th, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    Beautiful.

Oh well. We are losing the Moseley game no matter what, but Hughes/Lester is more winnable than AJ/Beckett imo.

  29. GhettoBlaster August 8th, 2010 at 5:33 pm

“ts possible that the Yankees might let Aceves rehab until the rosters expand on September 1st. Then they wouldn’t have to get rid of anybody.”

if that is the case, he wouldn’t be on the post season roster if the yanks make it there.

  30. GreenBeret7 August 8th, 2010 at 5:33 pm

As long as he stays far away and low to Ortiz, Beltre and Drew, Mosely might do fairly well.

Here’s his numbers against Red Sox hitters.

  31. Crawdaddy August 8th, 2010 at 5:35 pm

“Well, back spasms aren’t anything to play around with; Beckett had them a couple of years ago – and who knows? They could recur at any time…………”

It depends on the root cause for the spasms. If it’s muscle related then a couple of days of rest with some muscle relaxers should clear the problem up. However, if it’s structural related like what is going on with Aceves then it can get very serious in a hurry.

  32. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:35 pm

If the Yankees do win today, I like their chances to win the series. Beckett is pitching well lately but the Yankees have his number.

    ========================================================

Yes he would…he pitched a few games in April for the Yankees…thats all thats needed.

  34. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Craw, I hope the Yanks got this guy checked out…….If they didn’t, they’re foolish.

Mitre might be next on the cut list after go dan?

  38. trisha - true pinstriped blue August 8th, 2010 at 5:38 pm

We’re losing the Moseley game? Seriously?

I wonder if the Jays fans thought they were losing the Morrow game. After all, before today’s start Morrow had allowed 5 runs in 4 of his last 6 starts.

    1. That’s why the games are played.

    2. Were talking the New York Yankees.

I think I’ll put my money on Moseley thank you. I have a ton of faith in the Yankees and their ability to kick around Josh Beckett.

  39. MTU August 8th, 2010 at 5:39 pm

    Maine-

    Taking your advice from earlier.

    I’m back for more distraction.

  40. Crawdaddy August 8th, 2010 at 5:39 pm

    Betsy,

The doctor was there yesterday so I’m sure he took a look at AJ too.

  41. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:40 pm

Craw, that’s right..well, I’m going to assume that AJ will be fine; what’s the point in worrying?

  42. Erin August 8th, 2010 at 5:41 pm

Hi MTU!! :) Glad to see you’re back already. :)

  43. Eroc August 8th, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Morrow can miss bats. He is like AJ.. great stuff, mediocre results. It is no shock he struck out 17 guys, he has that kind of stuff.

Mosely is a sinker/slider pitcher… he is going to get rocked by a team like this that has power.

  44. trisha - true pinstriped blue August 8th, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Wow, “SweetswingingCano” and “Eduardo” said the same thing and just about the same time. Well actually “Eduardo” corrected his grammar.

    I wonder what CR9 would think…

  45. Sweet Swinging Cano August 8th, 2010 at 5:43 pm

We shall see. I wouldn’t count it as a loss just yet.

  46. MTU August 8th, 2010 at 5:44 pm

    Erin-

My visits will be sporadic for a while.

    Surgery was completed yesterday.

Today the patient is already up and around, and has been walking.

Best that could be expected at this point.

    So far so good. :)

  47. trisha - true pinstriped blue August 8th, 2010 at 5:46 pm

    Betsy, check your email.

    :)

  48. trisha - true pinstriped blue August 8th, 2010 at 5:47 pm

MTU, I didn’t know you were having surgery. I hope everything is okay!

Check out your response when I get back from the drugstore.

    Trish, I did – I just e-mailed you a few minutes ago :)

  52. Noreaster August 8th, 2010 at 5:48 pm

MTU, Feel better and get hiking again…

  53. Niblick August 8th, 2010 at 5:48 pm

#Eroc – your comment about Moseley is silly. He’s only pitched 2 innings against them in his career. (And can you be respectful enough to spell the man’s name correctly?)

And by the way, AJ has already been rocked by the sox twice this year.

  54. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:49 pm

LOL Craw…by the way, the entire conversation last night was a complete waste of time

  55. RhapsodyInBlue August 8th, 2010 at 5:49 pm

The Sox haven’t seen Moseley, I think he’ll be ok, this will big if we pull it off.

I like Phil vs Lester, I have to figure out how to out of work early.

  56. Eduardo August 8th, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Moseley has a reasonable chance of beating the Red Sox tonight.

  57. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:50 pm

Oddly, I had prepared myself for Hughes to start against Texas and now I feel a bit disappointed…..Oh well. He’s got to learn to pitch here sometime – now’s as good a time as any.

  58. MTU August 8th, 2010 at 5:52 pm

    Trisha-

It is not me but someone within my Family.

I mentioned it this morning you were not around.

They were in an accident which was quite serious and required surgical intervention.

So far things are going well. One day at a time for now but things are improving. Critical time is almost over. Fingers crossed that there will not be any complications.

  59. RhapsodyInBlue August 8th, 2010 at 5:53 pm

I went to the stadium last summer to catch A.J. vs the Rangers, it was a day game. Burnett got creamed Ian Kinsker hit 2 HRs.

I hope things are different on Tuesday.

  60. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:53 pm

    Anyhow, go Moselely!

  61. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:54 pm

    Moselely? Oy………….I mean Moseley.

  62. Eduardo August 8th, 2010 at 5:54 pm

    MTU,
That’s awful to hear. Prayers and thoughts with your family.

  63. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Tomorrow is an afternoon game? Oh………..well, I’ll be at work…..too bad.

  64. Niblick August 8th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

#Rhapsody: You caught AJ? Is your style more Molina or Jorge? In other words, did AJ shout much at you?

  65. MTU August 8th, 2010 at 5:55 pm

    Noreaster-

It’s funny you should say that. Just before all this happened my hiking buddy and I had just planned a big trip to go to the Sierras.

It may go on hold for a little while we’ll see.

I am usually very busy hiking at this time of year and have numerous trips in the pipeline.

  66. Erin August 8th, 2010 at 5:56 pm

YankeesWFAN ARod just jogged over to 3b. Posada taking bp, hit one in his direction. Posada jokingly yells, “Alex, look out!” Looks ok.

  67. Betsy August 8th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

LOL Erin……..I would love to see Alex take Beckett deep a couple of times, but I’ll take once. Thank goodness he’s ok….

  68. MTU August 8th, 2010 at 5:57 pm

    Eduardo-

Thank you for the kind thoughts. I am monitoring the situation and receive regular updates. Their is not much else I need to do for the moment, and I hope it stays that way.
