Yankees pick up a half game
Just rolled into Yankee Stadium, where a few Red Sox — including Dustin Pedroia — are taking early batting practice. There’s a Yankee running along the warning track and I’m pretty sure it’s Andy Pettitte, but he’s pretty far away.
On my way here, the Yankees managed to pick up a half game in the standings because the Rays were nearly no-hit — again! — in a loss to the Blue Jays. Brandon Morrow made a 1-0 lead hold up while striking out 17. He was pitching to former Yankees catcher Jose Molina, and his strikeout total was the second-highest in Blue Jays history behind Roger Clemens’ 18-strikeout game in 1998.

lidge vs reyes, who chokes first
Travis Wood just got his no-hit bid busted up in the 6th as well. Was actually quite sad to watch Aaron Hill just end up short on his effort to field Longoria’s hit. Good thing Morrow kept his cool after that though.
Chad, you missed the real game highlight. wheels Molina stole 2nd base on a straight steal….standing up.
Too bad for wood. The pity is that it wasn’t a quality hitter. It was the immortal Koye Hill.
Yet further evidence that Seattle GM is a moron – trades away Morrow (b/c he was not there when Morrow was drafted and Morrow was not one of “his” guys) for a reliever like League. Good one Jeff Z – and enjoy Justin Smoak.
GB, I guess if you want a no hitter broken up you need to head for the Hills!
Trisha, even I wouldn’t make a pun that bad. LMAO.
meant Jack Z
Say, any word on the signed baseball drawing?
Jack z is a moron. Plain and simple.
“Trisha, even I wouldn’t make a pun that bad. LMAO.”
Four Yankees now taking extra BP: Gardner, Berkman, Cervelli and Swisher.
And I’m not sure I believe the Molina story. That’s about as likely as Posada stealing a base.
All I know was that the Toronto announcers were speechless and they had to revive Cito Gaston.
Because of 137 pitches?
I wouldn’t write off TB anytime soon.
With or without Crawford and Pena, they still have a strong core of players and very good starting pitching – along with excellent speed and defense.
That combination isn’t bloody likely to fall off a cliff and return to it’s pre-2008 cellar-dwelling.
I bet the Rays are still the 2nd or 3rd best team in the division even if they do lose Crawford and/or Pena.
somebody needs to tell Posada about Molina’s steal. That will put him to shame.
Yeah they wont fall off the cliff but they will prob finish third.
Just loved what Morrow did today – a slap in Jack Z’s face – the arrogance – wow Jack you drafted Ryan Braun – OMG – you are generational – wait – did Jesus Montero really go 3 for 5 today and hit his 27th double of the season while Justin Smoak collects his 80 or so strikeouts and begins the path to Casey Kotchman 2.0. Jack Z you were so overhyped – you will be joining the former Toronto Jays GM on ESPN or maybe John Hart on mlb network in a few seasons while Jesus Montero destroys the cover off the ball from the no. 7 spot in the Yankees batting order at that future time.

A lot will depend on how the Red Sox revamp this offseason. They have a lot of work to do.
Hahaha burn
I would like to say the Yanks have an excellent chance to pick up a full game on TB tonight, but with Burnett pitching – forget it!
I would be happy if he could hold them to 5 runs. At least that would give the offense a fighting chance.
The Redsox need a big bat and a better bullpen.
I really want aj to pitch well tonight. He did terrible last time, but this is gut check time. I love the guy for pitching a gem in game two of the world series. But this will be hard to stomach for another 3 plus seasons.
NYPost_Kernan ESPN booth is on the field along 3B at Yankee Stadium. They’ve already set up protective screen for Bobby V. No A-Rod boo-boo here

Gotta love all the internet tough guys (Steve Lombardi) and beat writers who continue to take shots at A-Rod after getting nailed by that liner by Berkman.
I’d like to see how they’d handle a 100 MPH screaming line drive off their shin.
Some of the A-Rod bashing really has sunk to a new low this past week and I never thought that was possible.
I imagine that Tampa would try signing Pena, figuring that Desmond Jennings could replace Crawford. Not sure that they think that Dan Johnson could replace Pena, either the bat and definately not the glove.
People just don’t like arod and never will. Oh well that is their problem.
this should always be the music when Burnett pitches….

i have no use for ARod, but you are right, these writers are cheap shot artists. And if they got a 100 mph liner off the shin they’d be wailing like kindergartners.
