Cano out with a cold
Robinson Cano said he’s out of today’s lineup because he’s been sick since yesterday. He called it a cold, and his voice is a little more scratchy than usual. He said he’s felt low on energy.
Cano has taken some medicine and plans to take some batting practice in the cage, but he’s not sure whether he’ll be able to pinch hit.
As for Mark Teixeira, I haven’t seen him, but he is listed as a bench player and listed in the batting practice groups. Doesn’t mean he’ll be here, just means his name is on the list. Take that for what it’s worth, which might not be much.

Huh… A reason that Cano is out of the lineup. Imagine that.
Feel better Robbie!!!!!!
Good news folks.
Guess who’s pitching for SWB tonite.
That’s right. You got it. None other than the “Mexican Gangster”.
Good luck Alfredo.
There’s a new addition to the Teixeira family!!
Ledger_Yankees The Teixeiras had a baby boy today.
Burnett has to pitch a good game.
He is getting payed a lot of money & hasn’t pitched well at all this year, pretty bad actually.
If burnett can turn it around we have a good deep staff.Hughes looks like he is on to something,cc is cc,pettitte will be back & vaz is sort of extra debth.
It will be interesting if hughes is pitching well & burnett is not come playoff time.
Burnett might get pushed to #4.
Ledger_Yankees Girardi said he expects Teixeira back sometime during KC series.
Erin-
Is that his latest Tex message ?
Ledger_Yankees Cano also had a fever in addition to his head cold. Girardi says he’s available to pinch hit.
If Burnett falters again tonight, a Texas sweep is all but certain. Boy, it’d be great to be able to count on an $82M pitcher.
When are people going to learn that Joe has his reasons for who plays and who doesn’t instead people complain endlessly about what an idiot Joe is. You know he does know his players and knows when they need a day off and why.
Ron — I agree that Burnett is at #4 in the rotation right now. Hughes at least always manages to keep things close. With Burnett, you’re always one pitch away from total implosion.
If ace has no issues when he wakes up tomorrow he is very close to returning right?
How many more rehab games would he need?
It is not like he has to build a huge pitch count up.
The Yankees will be lucky to pull off a win till they get Tex and Cano back. That is tough losing those two bats from a lineup that hasn’t exactly been lighting up the boards.
So what’s your point, Jennifer (if there is one)? Girardi’s hand is sort of forced tonight, so there not much flexibility.
told ya Canoo Cano was injured !
Ron-
I wouldn’t think they would dare rush him but he’s getting close if all goes well.

=====
I would imagine the point being, Girardi has reasons for the lineup and those losing their mind that Cano isn’t playing might want to wait in the future for said reasons.
Phil must have passed on his cold to Robbie
Feel better Robby – not a great lineup tonight, but what can you do?
Betsy-
“not a great lineup tonight, but what can you do?”
Win anyway.
I like what i heard from hughes saying that he had to rest the pen & just decided to just play catch with posada & what do you know it worked.
Posada also said to waldman during yesterdays post-game that hughes mixed his pitches up better & his cb was good & that he is one togh kid.
Hughes is a very smart kid & it would not suprise me if he masters the art of pitching in the very near future.
I believe he will work on his change-up in the off-season now that he knows how important is is,will be or can be.
For Heavens Sake the gloom and doom crowd is here, let’s play the game anyway.
ron

Actually he had a really good April and May, a 3.28 ERA and 3.37 FIP (pulled from RAB). He imploded in June but then had a couple of really good outings in July before the last implosion. It’s not that he doesn’t pitch well ever. He’s just really inconsistent. It’s how he ends up having a terrible ERA and still having pitched the most amount of complete shutouts.
Ledger_Yankees William Charles Teixeira is the name.
Congratulations to Mark and Leigh!!!
There is a problem with Girardi. He decided to play Posada 3 straight games and now the guy can’t even DH for us. Yes, you can do nothing about Tex and Cano, and yes, Granderson is horrible against lefties, but Posada should be behind Arod DH’ing to protect him. That is the one thing Girardi could have and should have done. Not everything is Boston. Texas is the better team, the team we want to beat.
No one is saying Granderson isn’t a disappointment, but not everyone is willing to just throw him aside, call him a bust and move on from him completely.
A little Tex is born.
Ron, he needs to work on that curve first………..
Also, why do you think he knows how important the change up is?
the greatest catch ever?:

I just got off the phone with Alfredo’s wife, and she said he’s feeling great, and is ready to return to the Yanks. He just needs 1 or 2 rehab starts. Great news – hope all goes well tonight, and no more set backs!

That’s good news! I can’t imagine how anxious he must be to get back to the team. Hope everything goes well for him tonight.
Cashmoney, what do you mean “as in I”?
Big Al-
You know the Aceve’s personally ?
They shouldn’t rush him.
One step at a time.
Backs are very tricky. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll get lucky and AA will hold up for the rest of the season.
Whatever he is able to contribute will be good.
Betsy.
Just by listening to him talk about things & by him starting this year.
It’s a boy!!!!! See you in KC—— TEX
Oh, ok……..well he says a lot about the change and then doesn’t implement it.

do you Granderson think is a disappointment, are you not winning to just throw him aside….
Congrats to Tex and Leigh Teixera; tell Gammons so he can buy the baby a gift from Newbury STreet
Erin -
Arley’s Mom & Grandmother came to visit and watch Alfredo pitch, when they got put in the car and driven to Scranton.
They hope to see him pitch in NY before returning to Mexico.
They are excited, and scared at the same time. Alfredo’s feeling great, so here’s hoping no set backs.
Told him everyone loves him and wishes him well. Funny guy, a bit shy when it comes to fans showing how they feel, he still can’t get over the fact of how popular he is, he thinks I’m kidding him.

“One time one of them decided he was gonna go head to head with a cow. It was funnier than heck to watch. The cow was actually intimidated by a 13 lb barking dog. Laughed myself silly.”

Just catching up and had to respond to this. Sounds like you got some wimpy cows out there.
Cash, I don’t know what you mean. Yes, I think he’s a disappointment, but I was responding to GLove’s previous posts. He’s ready to call him a bust – I’m not going to do that.
Congrats to Texy and Leigh! Tex has some more Gammo diapers to change!

How about some credit where credit is due ?

You call that a dog?
We have rats that big.

Yes, Alfredo & Arley are close friends. He thought 6 weeks ago he was going to need surgery, but, a second opinion in NY told him to stay the course with PT, and so far it’s been a big help. That’s not to say he might need surgery at some point in the future. Alfredo has had trouble’s with his back on and off for 3 years, but, never more than a day or two rest needed. The lower back and abdomen strengthening have made a huge difference.
Nyankees13. Right like people wouldn’t be complaining that Jorge was sitting against the soxs. Joe can’t win.
if Alfredo does come back soon , who is next go on the roster ? Gaudin or Mitre? also, with Pettite’s imminent return, it doesn’t look like they are spots on the roster for either Gaudin and Mitre, assuming that Moseley will stay.
Big Al-
Really cool. Thanks. Hope everything goes well.
Later folks – the dinner bell just rang. Go Yankees!
Maine-
OK bigshot ! See for yourself. Remember I warned you first.
You don’t think that Cow should have been scared of these two ?

This is going to be one of those games where the Rangers see no Teix, no Cano in the lineup and they will relax and every Yankee will step it up thinking they have to make up for it. Happens all the time in every sport.

Jennifer, I think ppl will complain regardless. I do, but as far as ‘Joe can’t win’, Joe is winning in actuality and he is being pay quite handsomely in doing so.
BloggingBombers Girardi cited Thames’ experience against C.J. Wilson as part of the reason for hitting him third. He’s 2-for-6 lifetime against the lefty.
How can Joe be criticized at all for today’s lineup? Cano is sick, Tex isin’t with the team. Jorge caught the previous 3 days. Just a bad set of circumstances. It’s not like he decided to sit these guys down at the same time (which he is prone to doing sometimes).

Welcome to LHYB. You think these are bad? Wait until game thread.
That’s ridiculous – 6 at bats? He isn’t even the same pitcher.
Ace is QUITE the gentlemen, and a good player too. Hope he comes back 110%
the lineup looks kinda of weak, nothing we can do about it. in a hour or so, we will find out whether or not this lineup is capable of scoring some runs in the Tx’s heat. I am hoping Burnett doesn’t implode but that’s a concern from start to start and is redundant at this point.
in so many words, it’s a damn crapshoot, i am hoping we come on top though.
why are people writing off this game? Jeet, Berkman and Swish all hit well against Wilson. And for that matter, while Cliff Lee is an excellent pitcher, he isn’t infallible either. This is a good tune up for the post season. Lets not forget there have been occasions where Cisco and Pena have gotten the timely hits.
cute pups MTU…but not as cute as mine

I totally agree. It won’t stop people from complaining though-believe me.
BryanHoch Yankees have cut BP a little short today. They also went out with t-shirts on instead of jerseys. Surprisingly, it’s hot in Texas.
I live in FL but am visiting my sister in NJ and went to the game yesterday….frustrating to say the least…Lester is the type of pitcher we will see in the playoffs and right now our offense is lacking….the combo of a not right and older ARod, older and less effective Jeter and Posada, a terrible Granderson especially vs lefties and good pitching, Not so good Berkman and the absence of clutch Matsui and/ or Damon has me thinking we could lose in the first round b/c of the offense not the starters or bullpen….I so hope I am wrong….
Kate-
Put up or shut up.
Post a photo and we’ll let the blog decide.
@MTU, I am relatively new here. but from reading some of the blogs earlier, I wish you and your family a speedy recovery and better things to come.
Cashmoney-
Thank you. I appreciate the sentiments.
No one’s writing off these games. If they lose both, they may find themselves looking up again at TB. Detroit isn’t putting up much of a fight anymore.
Lineup has me worried, would be a tough game even with tex and cano… Plus aj is pitching… Kinda question whether cano coulda played thru the cold but oh well… We’ll see what happens, hopin for the best
MTU
Where do you put the handle?
I love when people complain about the Yankees “short” lineups.
Even tonight’s lineup is better than the lineup that the 67-44 Devil Rays put out there healthy every single night.
If they lose tonight, it won’t be Girardi’s fault. Its incumbent on the guys who are penciled in to get the job done.
Maine-
lol.
You need to come up with more original material than that.
Enjoy the game.
Aceves is out after 2/3rds of an inning. 1 strikeout, 2 walks, 1 stolen base allowed and 1 long loud fou;. It’s expected after 4 months off. 19 pitches, 9 strikes, 10 balls. no runs allowed.
Pitcher Lance Pendleton is in relief after being promoted from Trenton.
