    (repost)

I find it hard to believe it’s bridge jumping for calling Granderson a disappointment.

The team still wins in spite of him. Heck, this team still wins in spite of a whole heckuva lot this season.

It’s not the gritty gutty walk off type of team, but they just keep winning and minimize losing streaks.

Everyone who still sees a diamond in Granderson I give credit to.

I’m looking at hard facts. His numbers have been trending down for the past 4-5 seasons.

He hasn’t improved in any of those.

Maybe he’ll figure it out. Maybe this is rock bottom and he gets the help he needs to make his skills productive again.

    Right now, that’s not happening.

And no one is accusing him of being lazy or not trying. By all accounts, Long is working hard with him all the time. It’s just not bearing any fruit.

Will I be stunned if he becomes a productive player here? A little.

The comparison to Swisher isn’t fair because as many have forgotten Swisher carried the team for a few weeks in April last year while Arod was out.

When he fell off the cliff, he was still taking pitches, driving up pitch counts and getting walks.

Granderson does none of those “unsung” positive things. Outside of 2-3 clutch homers, he’s done nothing to carry this team or show that he’s capable of being a catalyst in this lineup.

You look at the numbers and you see a pattern of decline in the player.

I’m just not confident we’re going to see much better for the life of this contract.

I hope he proves me wrong.

I thought this was pretty good: Ledger_Yankees Off days + Lefties + Babies = Today?s Yankees lineup.

I?m sad Robbie?s not in there, but I do remember Girardi saying he was going to get a day off soon.

  3. Carl August 10th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Why are you posting this again?

  4. Web August 10th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

    Why no Cano?

  5. ericns1 August 10th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Why is Girardi playing these like spring training games – did this Sunday vs. the Rays and now this – let Joe g. go back to Chi town if he keeps this up.

  6. Erin August 10th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Any word on the newest addition to the Teixeira family yet??

  7. MTU August 10th, 2010 at 4:48 pm

If swish and kearns are both covering RF who’s covering LF ? :)

  8. Jim August 10th, 2010 at 4:48 pm

    What is Cano Tex’ midwife?

  9. BEEarl August 10th, 2010 at 4:48 pm

I’m not a fan of these lineups, when Girardi sits 3 or more regulars. I know Tex can’t be helped tonight, but wouldn’t it be better if he rested 1-2 at a time rather than 3-4?

  10. stuart a August 10th, 2010 at 4:49 pm

maybe cano’s knee is sore from getting HBP the other day>>>>>>>…

this is why games like yesterday that they should have won hurt.

    0 for 9 with RISP.

granderson has done almost nothing this year. his obp is like 320…….

he has bad ab’s all the time……..

  11. blake August 10th, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Now this I don’t get. Give Cano tomorrow off in a game that you have a good chance to lose anyway.

  12. Yankee Trader August 10th, 2010 at 4:49 pm

Kearns in LF. Lefties hitting .105 with no homers against CJ Wilson. Hopefully the last outing and the pounding he received against the Mariners continues tonight.

  13. MTU August 10th, 2010 at 4:50 pm

Sorry. Forget what I said above. It was supposed to be a joke. It’s been a rough couple of days. :(

This is good. Everyone knows that the more complaints there are about the line up, the more runs the Yankees score!

  18. MastaZ August 10th, 2010 at 4:52 pm

If gardner isn’t gonna act a second leadoff guy in the #9 spot, why the EFF is cervelli hitting ahead of him?

  19. Yankee Trader August 10th, 2010 at 4:52 pm

Hopefully that’s the lineup plus others from AAA in the last series at Boston.

  21. ET August 10th, 2010 at 4:54 pm

    G. Love – agree 100%

The guy has plenty of flaws, his one calling card was hitting for power. People were saying he should hit 40 HRs in this park. Now that he is not even hitting HRs, he is basically useless. What else does he do well? An expensive defensive player?

He was supposed to guard against the aging bats having bad years. That was Cash’s goal, to bring in players in their prime to pick up the slack as the core gets older. This year, the older guys like Jeter, ARod, Posada are having bad years and Granderson is nowhere to be found. At least the other guys have excuses – they are in their mid 30s. What is Granderson’s excuse for having the worst season of his career at age 29?

Ledger_Yankees Houston writers in here dropping in on Lance Berkman.

  24. Melk Man August 10th, 2010 at 4:57 pm

Worst lineup of the year. Burnett has to pitch a shutout to win.

Kearns, the guy hitting .125, is hitting 5th?

Pena-Cervelli-Gardner, all who are hitting like .150 the past month, at the bottom? Berkman, who has 5 hits in 10 games?

Now would be a good time for A-Rod to heat up

G.Love: IMO, I don’t think the bridge jumping is calling Grandy a disappointment. He is. I think the bridge jumping is the “dump him/trade him” talk. He’s been with the team for 1/2 of a season and some are ready to write him off. I think that is a panic move.

Some players may take longer to adjust their mechanics than others. Swisher, while always an OBP machine, changed his plate mechanics in the off season, when there was no pressure to do it. Same with Cano. I’m hopeful that Grandy is able to do become a productive member of the team. If he can get to .275+ with 25+ HR, and play great defense, I’d be satisfied with that.

I’ve seen the trending for his numbers and it’s concerning, but I don’t believe that 1/2 season with the team is enough to say he’s a bust and to dump him.

  34. GreenBeret7 August 10th, 2010 at 5:02 pm

This line-up can’t produce any less than what the regular line-up produced over much of the last 15 games.

I like your persistence! It is funny how many times I watch a hitter and think he is good or bad or has potential or doesn’t. Of course this is me talking about myself here & I’m not a qualified scout. LOL!

While stats and trends are very important, there are intangibles as well. A player I know in American Legion baseball played 20 games and had only 1 hit. He looked terrible! He was a switch hitter and he batted 3rd all season. Everyone knew he was a great hitter, LOL, but he literally sucked. Well he played in the American Legion tournament (He also pitched so he was going to make the team on that alone if nothing else.) and batted over .800 in the 12 to 15 games & the team finished 2nd in the US. I know American Legion isn’t MLB, but the basic premise of extended slumps and even completely being horrible can change in an instant because the root cause IMO is confidence or lack thereof. My teammate pitched the 1st American Legion playoff game & batted 9th & hit 3 HR in his 1st game. He never left the American Legion playoff lineup after that.

Granderson is competent and has had a good swing in prior years. His problem is mental IMO. I thought he was doing well just before he got hurt & now he has totally regressed. I expect him to turn things around soon.

  39. Erin August 10th, 2010 at 5:03 pm

I agree that you don’t sit Cano out the day that Tex is at home with his family, why not tomorrow unless they don’t plan on having Tex back by then too? Either way this is obviously not ideal but it is what it is, now watch they score 10 runs…

  43. champ809 August 10th, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Cano has been needing a blow for some time now. I believe he’s the only reg to play every game and maybe every inning of every game so far.

The Yanks are fine right now and I believe will come into Sept the will have a nice 4-5 game lead on the Rays for the Div title.

  44. blake August 10th, 2010 at 5:06 pm

I’m sure Girardi has his reasons for the lineup…I just hope its not because Robbie is hurting somewhere. Very RHed lineup against the lefty…

And as for his day off being today-I think people (even besides me) complain whenever he’s out of the lineup. But, he does need a day off every once in a while. LOL

  46. jacksquat August 10th, 2010 at 5:07 pm

LHB’s hitting .105 vs CJ Wilson might have something to do with this lineup. RHB’s .244. Thames hitting .328/.408 vs lhp.

  47. RS August 10th, 2010 at 5:07 pm

It’s a little embarrassing to walk into Texas with our two worst starting pitchers and this lineup. It’s only a 2 game set but we could face this team again in the playoffs…I don’t want to see the Rangers sweep and build up their confidence against us. On the other hand, if we win these next two games or even split, it would be a huge accomplishment.

  48. YankeeBlue222 August 10th, 2010 at 5:09 pm

    Too bad about Tex.

I know someone close to Leigh Teixeira and apparently they were planning on conceiving a child in April so that it was born during the winter, but Tex couldn’t “deliver” during April.

  49. RMS August 10th, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Damon and Matsui are not exactly having great years.
The only criticism I have with Cashman is the signing of Nick Johnson who he knew is always on the DL.

  50. Tyler August 10th, 2010 at 5:10 pm

If the Rangers think the Yanks are a joke because of this lineup and AJ and Vazquez pitching, they have something coming. The Rangers know that the Yanks are the World Champs and will have to be dealt with to get to the World Series.

I don’t like how the Rangers were so aggressive at the deadline on other teams’ money. I hope the Yanks destroy them. Nolan Ryan sitting there with his smug look. I’d love to see the Yanks win both of these games.

If the Yankees win this game, with THIS lineup, I will be shocked……pleasantly shocked, but shocked nonetheless. I expect we hear that Cano is hurting, because the lineup SCREAMS for his bat, lefty on the mound or not !

Burnett has to pitch a good game.

He is getting payed a lot of money & hasn’t pitched well at all this year, pretty bad actually.

If burnett can turn it around we have a good deep staff.Hughes looks like he is on to something,cc is cc,pettitte will be back & vaz is sort of extra debth.

It will be interesting if hughes is pitching well & burnett is not come playoff time.
Burnett might get pushed to #4.
