Pettitte feeling good the day after

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Aug 14, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

Andy Pettitte just arrived in the Yankees clubhouse. He said he feels good the day after a 50-pitch sim game in Tampa. For whatever reason — and he can’t quite explain it — his body didn’t feel quite ready to throw 100 percent off the mound yesterday.

That said, Pettitte thought his groin might feel sore this morning, but he said he feels great. Pettitte said he considers yesterday only a minor setback, and he’s still waiting to meet with the training staff to figure out what’s next.

“It’s the unknown that drives you crazy,” he said.

That’s very good news…..but as much as Andy wants to return, we need to give him all the time he needs. Rush him back and we could lose him for good.

To be fair to Javy, you can say the same thing about Phil in terms of who he’s beaten: A’s, O’s, White Sox when they were bad…….I can’t think of too many “good” teams he’s beaten (the Jays recently and the Sox).

    ————–

Hughes has faced 9 good offensive teams (Boston x 3, Tampa, Toronto x 2, White Sox, Angels x 2) and has pitched well (3 runs or less) in 6 of those games.

And the White Sox sucked early on because of their pitching (Peavy, Floyd, Garcia, etc. were awful to start the year), not their offense.

The acquisition of Wood is key.
He takes the pressure off of Joba and Robo, in that all 3 are now potential EIG’s. Throw in Logan to the mix and you have the makings of an excellent pen. Add Ace and Marte and wow!

Anybody else down there is just mop-up.

    Oh did I forget Mo?

Right now, I like D-Rob and Logan way more than Joba as 7th or 8th guys.

Just saying, he can use all of them if he has to.
Getting Wood will make them all better and Wood can also pitch the 8th as well as 2 innings if he has to.

  8. mick August 14th, 2010 at 4:34 pm

The pressure is off Joba as the only EIG.

  9. Betsy August 14th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

I don’t recall the White Sox being a good offensive team earlier this season, but I admit I don’t know how to go checking that.

  10. BIG AL August 14th, 2010 at 4:35 pm

Barring injuries, which are a part of the game, we should be in good shape come the fall.

One good thing, our SP have been going deep into most game, except AJ.

If AJ puts on his playoffs hat, like last year, we will be extra fine.

  11. Betsy August 14th, 2010 at 4:36 pm

That said, I left out Detroit; at the time he faced them, the Tigers were a good team

Which is why I might leave Javy off , esp if he keeps up what he’s been doing lately.

After all, he’s not getting the start over Hughes.

Agree. In the playoffs, you need to maximize the 25 roster spots.

If Vaz does get on, then they need to eliminate Mosely, Gaudin, and Mitre because those guys would be redundant. We don’t need 4 long men.

  18. BIG AL August 14th, 2010 at 4:53 pm

If you need that many long men, then your losing for sure.

Pay particular attention to the 3rd photo in the sequence. At the bottom of the canyon on the right side right next to the river you will see a darkly colored area. That is the remnant of an ancient lava flow. that area is actaully called lava falls because of it. At one point about 10k years ago that flow crossed the Colorado damming up the river behind it. When the pressure of the river became to greta the lava dma burst in a gigantic flood widening out the Canyon after each successive episode. The Grand canyon did not take nearly as long to form as was previously thought. It was supposed to have been a more gradual process as opposed to a catastrophic one. Geology is revealing these sorts of castostrophic processes as culprits in things never though before. The snake river valled is another example. That’s all for today’s lesson. Enjoy. :)

jnorris427 Pat Venditte is fanning 10.65 batters per nine innings in Tampa, and is holding hitters to a .188 average against He also walks just 1.61 per nine and is allowing a puny 8.17 baserunners per nine.

Does he have the potential to be more than a “sideshow” attraction?

Comparing the standings at the ASB to now, we haven’t gained nor lost anything to TB. It seems like they’ve lost more than us, but that’s probably because they had a tough stretch the last 2 weeks.

In that sense, it’s frustrating that we haven’t stretched the lead to give ourselves more breathing room down the home stretch.

But, we should be glad that we’re still ahead.

Boston’s only lost a game in the same stretch.

There are some good teams in the AL East, that’s about the only thing I can conclude.

  35. m August 14th, 2010 at 5:36 pm

That should be “or”, not “nor”. :P

Two years ago, at SWB, they had the first (and it turned out to be the last) Legands of Baseball Game, piting Yankees old timers against Red Sox old timers. Goose pitched all 6 innings, and the radar gun had him at 88mph all day.

I got his signed game jersey from that game. I’ll have to take a picture and E-mail it to you.

That is God’s country you live in, that’s for sure. Love all your pictures, shows a good eye for the beauty life has given us.

I liked seeing Pena be so aggressive at 1st base last night. If he got picked off it would stink but when your aggressive things happen. I would much rather see the effort that he showed than the roadrunner that just stands on 1st like a statue. Pena isn’t as fast as Gardner but right now I would rather see him brought in as a pinch runner because Gardner seems to think that everything has to be perfect for him to steal.
