Hard to see a low grade strain of the calf being a DL, has to be Gaudin. Chad even said he was in the clubhouse for only a few minutes, he probably got the news and left, no?

Erica, glad today is better. I’ve always liked Johnny D and probably always will. Sometimes he doesn’t think before he speaks, but that’s part of who he is. Speaking out on Gardy’s slide? He’s just backing up his teammate. Like Gardy said, if Johnny was still in pinstripes, he’d be cheering on Brett’s hard (but fair) slide. No worries here.

My guess is Arod on DL, if it was Berkman or Swisher then Miranda or Curtis would be called up. I agree very doubtful it is Gaudin that has been let go at this point.

I’d think that there’s a better chance that Berkman goes on the DL for his ankle than Rodriguez.
If it is Nunez coming up wouldn’t it have to be because a position player is going on the DL? He did play 3b for SWB last night. Haven’t followed him close enough, but aren’t most of his starts at SS?
How about DFA Gaudin and activate Nunez until Alex comes back and then send him down and activate Aceves in a few days?
Could it be Berkman going on the DL?

That would not mean good things for my GTLU submission
They said Berkman was available to PH last night so I am doubtful.
I’ve had both Anatomy and Physiology and spent a week on sports injuries. Arod if he wraps up his calf could potentially DH. Berkman shouldn’t even be standing that much (could make it worse).

Actually, I would rather hope its the DFA of Gaudin
The Yanks have at least 3 replacements for 1st base not counting Berkman.
Other than last night, Gaudin was pitching pretty well in the mop-up role. I’d hate to see him go.
Since Gaudin would not be available today anyway or probably not, it could be they DFA’d him and brought up Nunez because with Alex unavailable they are short an infielder. At least for a few days. This way Jeter can also be rested if necessary.

Would make sense since he’s been out longer. Bringing up Nunez also allows them to DH ARod for the next few days without being some hamstrung on the bench.
My gut’s telling me, though, that Alex is on the DL.
I think naming your kids after sports figures/arenas is risky. Didn’t actor Kevin James name his son Shea after Shea Stadium? Then what happened….they tore the stadium down. Also need to be careful of those players who end up tainted as the years go on….like naming your kid Alex, Barry, or Roger. Or even outside of phd’s. What if the player is a complete loser in their personal lives and end up getting arrested or something.
Interesting to see Nunez. Wonder what’s going on. Excited, though. Saw him play a few weeks ago. Kid’s got potential.

This would be the best case…
Don’t get caught up in a pitcher possibly going down for a position player. This could be very short term since Ace will be ready to come back in a couple of days. With Arod hurt, the Yanks are short in the infield. When Arod is ready, they send Nunez back down and bring Ace off the DL.
This is not a good sign unless nunez is replacing pena wich doesn’t make sense.
Something wrong with arod?
Nunez is mostly a shortstop, but has played both 3rd and 2nd bases this year and in other years. Not his greatest spots, but, he can play them. I’m a little surprised since he left the game the other noght in the 1st inning with a head injury.

Maybe DHing Arod and Girardi wants to spell Pena. DFA Gaudin. Unlikely scenario. But one can hope.

I’m sure its DFA Gaudin to call up Nunez. I think they want to give Nunez a shot anyway. Could even be a trade bait situation. But I think they want to give Arod another day or two and don’t want to play Pena four days in a row.
Gaudin is a decent pitcher. But he’s behind Aceves, Mosely, Mitre and Nova on the spot starter / long reliever depth chart.
Maybe the Yanks just want an extra position player. With Pena at 3rd for a few days there is no back up for Derek or Robbie.

Alex was walking around the dugout last night. If his injury – which was described as day to day, after all – worsened to require the DL, I don’t think he would have been walking around nonchalantly. And there was no hint of anything last night.
Berkman’s ankle is described as really swollen, more so than anyone expected. I think that might be it. Nunez for Berkman.

Chipper Jones named his son Shea because he liked hitting in that ballpark so much.
Sounded like Arods injury was minor…hopefully it still is. My guess would be Berkman to the DL.

Ace is ready to come back now so someone has to go,most likely gaudin.
So nunez covers til arod is ok then ace is back.

I don’t they’d replace a pitcher – Gaudin – with a hitter. DFA’ing Gaudin is a separate issue, but I think they’d replace him with a pitcher, especially given the usage last night.

I didn’t know that. However, even so, the fact that Kay uses that moniker is disturbing. But since it came out of Minny, it also either shows how little respect the rest of baseball – in this case, Minny – has for the Yankees organization or how much respect to tailor a nickname for their 2 after 2 Yankees greats.
Is there any way the Yankees can put either Chad Gaudin or Sergio Mitre on the 15 day DL? If so, they could bring the guy off the DL after the rosters expand on Sept. 1st. That would allow the Yankees to bring up Eduardo Nunez for a few days and then send him back down in a few days when either Andy Pettitte or Alfredo Aceves is ready to come off the DL.
I guess I’m saying that Eduardo Nunez doesn’t necessarily have to be here for the entire 15 days that someone is on the DL…just a few days to give either ARod or Jeter a break.
Any news on whether Javy is going to make his next start…I’m assuming he will be since nothing has been said on the subject?

If it was Berkman don’t you think Juan Miranda would be called up as his replacement? I think Nunez is here today to play in today’s game for Jete. I think Aceves might be back sooner than later. DFA Gaudin, play Nunez today, send him down tonight and call Aceves back up. Someone needs to be moved off the 40 man to get Aceves back on and my guess would be it will be Gaudin.

I’ll repeat, why else would Gaudin be in the clubhouse for only a few minutes before leaving while no one else was there yet? To me it means he was called in early by Joe to get the news, makes sense that he wouldn’t want to stick around after.
I think it is likely Berkman to the DL. This move would allow AROD to DH while not having to have Pena be in the lineup. This can also be a move just for a backup infielder which the team lacks if AROD can’t play in the field.

My guess is that Arod will be DH’n in the next series so they need another infielder.
