Rodriguez taking ground balls during BP
As I type this, Alex Rodriguez is at third base taking ground balls during batting practice. I believe these are the first fielding drills he’s done since the calf injury. Looks good to me, but I’m hardly an expert.
For now, the plan is for Rodriguez to return to the lineup at designated hitter. He told Joe Girardi that his calf feels strong enough to play, but Girardi wants to check with A-Rod after BP before he finalizes the lineup.
“He wanted to give it a try today,” Girardi said. “I talked to with the trainers and they’re good with it. If he feels something during BP, then we’ll shut it down.”
So far, so good.

Unfortunately for Pedroia, the Cloak of Healing is powerless away from Middle Earth.
repost:
The boston fanbase and media absolutely killed Jacoby Ellsbury calling him soft over and over because he broke 5 ribs and it took some time to get back. 5 ribs all on one side. The Sox doctors completely misdiagnosed it to begin with and let him play for a while with broken ribs. He goes back on the DL and Sox fans and the media just kill him about his heart.
And in the end it turns out Ellsbury likely came back too early and broke another rib diving for the ball. He dives for the ball trying to make a play and he’s dismissed as “fragile” when he rebrakes a rib.
Now the once world series hero and future of the club is well on his way to getting run out of town.
It’ll be very interesting to see how the media and fan base react to “Pedey” injury and having to go back on the DL. I’d guess it’ll be quiet a contrast to how Ellsbury was tossed into the scap heap.
It’s funny to think back to all the comments made on this board talking about how the Yankees medical staff has been so lacking in comparison to the state of the art medical care Theo instituted with the Sox. Mike Lowell, Ellsbury, Pedroia. Well done in all three cases.
Joe G needs to give Jeter a day off, @36 he could use a breather.
bring JD back….

I remember Girardi saying Jeter was going to get a day off soon. I bet he sits either tomorrow or Sunday.

To whoever questioned what I was talking about a few threads ago about Pedroia, this is exactly what I was talking about. It’s stupid, simply stupid to come back too soon from any kind of injury, especially the foot. This is why I love the line for (Girardi or Eiland? I can’t remember) about Hughes and the innings and how nothing else plays into that, because his career is what is important.
In other news… Does the randomly expanding PC Richards ad annoy anyone else? Every time… EVERY TIME I go to click on something, I end up clicking on something else that I didn’t want to click on because the massively expanding ad is pushing the page down.

it seems to me G pampers Arod and sort neglect that Jeter is a year old and plays arguably more demanding position, I just think Jeter needs couple days off, he will never ask for it.
anyone else want to see Damon back, Brandon Inge and Johnny Damon are now on waivers,
The Red Sox are beyond needing a team doctor. They need to call in noted forensic pathologist Cyril Wecht to perform autopsies on their players and fans.
CB,
I think Boston will hail Pedroia a gritty gutty hero for some reason.
That is until they get eliminated from the post season and the reality hits that this was a lost season for them that illuminated some troubling trends. The issue of Lackey & Beckett being locked up for so long for such big dollars is going to turn ugly in the coming years. I’ve already seen Boston fans imploring Theo online to eat dollars on Beckett’s deal so they can trade him.
I predict Lackey will be a long man in their pen in a few short years.
As for the injuries; I thought it was ludicrous reading the daily posts about Pedroia defying the odds of injury timetables and rehab. They built him up but I think the front office and the medical staff will be who they take down since they have such an affection for the dwarf.
Ellsbury should dance a Papelbum jig if he’s lucky enough to traded from there.
Asd-yes, the PC Richards ad is VERY annoying.
as soon as Rodriguez can play defense and on a day that Posada catches will be when Jeter gets a break. They’re not likely to have 3 major bats out of the lineup at the same time, playing, Pena, Cervelli and nunez.

God, I just, I just hate it so much. Up and down, up and down, every single page I click on, and them I feel like a moron chasing the link up the page.
I agree PC richards pop up and the srikeout whistle both are as annoying as the trolls in the board during game time..
ed_price W/#Mariners off yest & #Yankees day game, Felix Hernandez (pitching tonight) got throwing in by playing catch w/J.Vargas in Central Park
Take your time Alex! Pedroia didn’t, and he’s back on the DL. Pettitte didn’t, and he’s still on the DL. I want to win the division, but I’d rather win the wild card with A-Rod in the playoffs, than win the division with A-Rod watching the playoffs from the bench.
“As for the injuries; I thought it was ludicrous reading the daily posts about Pedroia defying the odds of injury timetables and rehab.”
Wait…are you implying that recovery time is not determined by one’s degree of grittiness? If I hadn’t been so well informed by the Boston media, you might would have gotten me with that.
“I predict Lackey will be a long man in their pen in a few short years.”
You do know that contract is absolutely risk-free don’t you? If Lackey misses time because of that old elbow injury the Sox will get to have him as a long man for an additional year at the league minimum (after the 5/$82.5M).
Let’s get Johnny back!
after damon’s comments about gardner, it’s unlikely he’s coming back to the bronx.
plus, a few teams like the red sox need an outfielder. they’d be able to claim him before us.

Nothing about 82.5M for 5 years is risk-free. What are you talking about? If Lackey continues to suck they don’t get him for years 2,3,4, and 5 at league minimum. Its only lets them pickup a 6th year at league minimum if he has ‘significant’ time on the DL due to elbow.

He already cleared waivers apparently.

Yankees had a guy that came up and pitched for us last year that basically called Tony Pena a loser for quitting his KC job. He also almost started a fight with A-Rod when he was with Toronto. I forgot his name though.
Josh Towers is his name!
you mean “pedey” hasnt started to take ground balls on his knees?
If he did do that, what is the point? are you gonna forget how to get ground balls because you are on the DL?
I’m not predicting Lackey hits the DL. I’m predicting he’ll be a pinball machine in the AL East and the Red Sox will put him in the pen.
Omar Visquel 2011 replace DJ at SS? He will be available
What did Johnny say about Gardner? Vacation has taken its toll.

That his takeout was dirty, which I don’t think would be a big deal if the yankees acquired him back for some reason (which they won’t)
Good news re: Alex.
Michael Kay is so crude. I turned his show on for a few minute earlier and he was talking about possible Yankee concerns, one of which was the SP. I heard a caller call about Phil and suggest that his limits weren’t that big of a deal because he’d thrown 146 pitches a few years ago and then, in the playoffs, dominated in his one start. Fine – Kay said that was a long time ago, ok. He then said Phil “wet the bed” in the playoffs last year. Would he have said that on YES? I just find that a very crude term for a broadcaster to use. It’s a fair point to wonder how Phil will do (a) in the post-season coming off of last year and (b) as a starter in the post-season, but I think “wet the bed” is pretty strong. Not that it matters, but he would pitch Phil as the #4 starter.
I’m a lifelong Yankee fan there is no love lost when it comes to the Boston Red Sox, but,
You really have to tip your hat to Pedroia, he’d probably opt to have the foot amputated for a prosthetic if it would get him back on the field quicker.
J.D. Drew he ain’t.
Getting Nick Johnson was one of Cashman’s bigger mistakes. Johnson rarely plays a whole season without injury. This season may be his last. His wrist is apparently always going to be fragile. How does one swing a bat without injuring a fragile wrist??
This was a totally foreseeable stupid mistake. Why didn’t they just rehire Hideke? He only wanted 1 year.
