Report: Red Sox claim Johnny Damon
Jon Heyman is reporting that the Red Sox have claimed Johnny Damon off waivers from the Tigers. Boston obviously needs some help in the outfield with Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron out of the mix. We’ll have to wait to find out if some sort of deal is worked out to actually send Damon back to Boston.

Blocking the rays/yankees from claiming him. He might waive his no trade but he’d be going to a team with just as much a chance at the postseason as the Tigers.
Don’t you do it Johnny!
traitor!!

He can stay where he is and not make the postseason or go to Boston and not make the postseason.

Wow
Joelsherman1 Damon was big part of Idiots that made 0-3 ALCS charge against #Yankees in ’04. #Redsox trying to make big comeback again now
hmmmm….
Sorry to be so ignorant, but can someone provide URL for a site that shows where Damon has played this year (OF vs. DH) for the Tigers? MLB.com is not helpful (lists him as DH).
Is he still a legit outfielder?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Gardner 7, Swisher 9, Teixeira 3, Cano 4, Posada dh, Granderson 8, Nunez 6, Pena 5, Cervelli 2, Nova 1.
i dont see the sox bringing him back.
make sense for the Sox.
I be more afraid, if Tampa claims Manny.
Well – Johnny is one who breaks the mold!
traitor, for being claimed by the red soxs, geesh, poor guy!

Don’t kid yourself. Boston is not out of it (which is sad because they are playing with a AAA lineup)..
Joelsherman1 Remember that #Redsox get to claim in waiver process b4 Rays, who probably would have had interst, and #Yankees, who probably wouldn’t have
If Detroit just lets him go (RS get him), is it a “trade”?
Poor Erica….. hang in there!
QUICK Put Javy on the DL.
I think the Red Sox have a much better chance then the Tigers. Detroit is 15 games out of the wild card and the Sox are 5.5.
Just last week Johnny told the media that he didn’t like playing in Boston. New York was so much better….
This is a NIGHTMARE
Smart move for boston. Cameron is out, Ellisbury is still not 100%. Besides, it serves 2 functions: provides LF/CF/DH depth for them, as well as blocks both the Rays and Yankees from acquiring his services. And we know how clutch a player he can be. Methinks that the Yanks would have or did try to get him.
Oh well. It’s their checkmate to Kearns/Berkman and Wood.
hey Eric, off the topic for a min, I thought Shutter Island was well done. I like the ending a lot, as in Dicaprio’s choice.
Erin, meh
Sorry Erica!
This is better than reality TV, Johnny back with the Sox.
Joelsherman1 Keep in mind Damon has played OF just twice since 7/28, mainly now a DH. Redsox have Ortiz, need Damon to accept not ony trade, but OF duty
just because boston claimed him doesnt mean he is going there. just could have been stopping tampa and the yankees.

johnny is a mercenary is the highest order, i can see Johnny going to the sox.
Johnny Damon is about as delusional as Teddy/Leonardo in Shutter Island. What a no loyalty freak
Cashmoney-good, I’m glad you liked it! I liked the ending too.
New Post w/lineup
HOW DARE HE LET THE RED SOX CLAIM HIM?! Lol some people are ridiculous… He obviously has no control over who claims him.
“Just last week Johnny told the media that he didn?t like playing in Boston. New York was so much better?.”
He’s got a no trade. He can “just say no”.
WFAN said he has the Sox on his no-trade list, so I doubt it actually happens. Even though the Sox desparately need outfield help, I would think they claimed him so he wouldn’t get to the Yanks.
Boston is 6.5. Six game left head to head. A comeback is highly unlikely, but I’ll say, remember The Boston Massacre (1978).
I thought “the Caveman” was extinct! Next thing people will be talking about Manny using the bathroom inside the Green Monster again.
New thread
Believe Damon like you would a politician. If in fact he lands with Boston, the 6 remaining games with the Yankees will be Boston’s World Series.
The Yankees are all too familiar with Damon. He left the Bronx last week going 2 for 18 with Detroit.
Would Boston hassle with Scott Boras for another year with Boston in 2011. Very doubtful.
I wish Jd luck no matter where he lands. Just not against the yankees. The guy played hard and was a loyal yankee. Hated the way it turned out, but it did. Don’t wish him ill but you can and should hate the uniform if infact he lands in Boston.
He said he didn’t want to go back to Boston. So, I guess he’s going back to Boston.
