05_Flatbed_WEB - JULYThe family of Bob Sheppard released a very gracious public statement today:

“Our family would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of condolences and support. We continue to be touched by the kind words and wonderful memories that so many people have shared with us.

“We are humbled that Bob holds a special place in the hearts of so many individuals – from fans of the New York Yankees and New York football Giants to former students at John Adams High School and St. John’s University. Your kindness has inspired us during this difficult time.”

    SJ,

Have you seen Noesi pitch much? Do you view him like Nova?

  2. CountryClub August 26th, 2010 at 4:19 pm

I was listening to the Fan earlier today and Francessa brought up an interesting scheduling quirk. The Yanks play 5 straight day games starting next Thursday.

  3. SJ44 August 26th, 2010 at 4:23 pm

I saw Noesi pitch in the Futures Game.

He’s a lot like Nova. Although, I liked his curveball a lot more than I liked Nova’s secondary pitches.

He has a bit of a long arm action. Which leads to some fastball command issues.

Overall, he’s a solid prospect. Wouldn’t call him “elite” but, he’s solid.

    My top 10:

    Montero
Banuelos (19 yr old lefty throwing mid 90′s)
    Romine
    Betances
Brackman (oldest of the 3 B’s)
    Sanchez
    Slade
    Warren
    Adams
    Noesi

  5. CountryClub August 26th, 2010 at 4:32 pm

The kid that the Yanks signed from Taiwan is trying to void the contract. Rumor has it that he realized he was worth much more money and wants out of the deal.

  6. LGY August 26th, 2010 at 4:33 pm

I don’t know much about Warren. Anyone want to give a quick scouting report?

  7. m August 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Too many losses in the Yankee family this year.

    Big ones, too.

Joelsherman1 Quiz: 2 teams have 2 players on roster that have had 20 or more HRs in at least 10 different seasons. Name teams/players. Answer at 6pm

if he is fully recovered by next spring, I think David Adams will be a fast riser , a possible candidate to challenge Laird in back up infield position with the Yankees. i love his rock solid OPS numbers at every stops in the minor.

I often wonder why Bob Sheppard’s son didn’t get behind the microphone when his father took ill a few years ago ? There was talk about it but it never got any further.

  11. CountryClub August 26th, 2010 at 4:47 pm

Warren is a kid they drafted out of college last yr (4th round I think). At the time, people thought he had a legit shot to be a good pen arm because he has a good 90-95 FB. But this yr he’s really improved his stock. His FB is still very good, but his off speed stuff has gotten much better. He has 3 legit pitches and looks like someone who could be a #3 type pitcher. He struck out 15 guys in AA last week in 7 innings.

  12. pat August 26th, 2010 at 4:49 pm

    Hank speaks….

  13. CountryClub August 26th, 2010 at 4:50 pm

    His line in AA this yr is 4-2 with a 3.05 ERA (44.1 IP, 36 H, 13 BB, 50 K). When you combine Tampa and Trenton, he’s 11-7 with a 2.51 ERA (125.1 IP, 108 H, 30 BB, 117 K).

  14. slu August 26th, 2010 at 4:52 pm

One of my earliest memories is of walking into Yankee Stadium and seeing the green of the field with my own eyes for the first time and hearing the voice of Bob Shepard welcoming me to the stadium. I will never forget Bob’s voice for as long as I live. There is not a greater compliment one could give to a PA announcer, I’d imagine.

    pat -

Yankees (ARod/Berkman) are one. Reds (Edmonds/Rolen) are close, but not there – Rolen needs one more homer this year.

  17. rodg12 August 26th, 2010 at 5:00 pm

ChiSox are the other. Konerko and Andruw Jones.

The 209 comes to the 718….

BrianCostaWSJ Dallas Braden is lined up to start against the Yankees one week from today at Yankee Stadium.

check out the LL WS game

  23. 108 stitches August 26th, 2010 at 5:35 pm

Paul Konerko has always hit Yankee pitching well. Let’s hope he’s mired in a slump over the weekend.

  24. Doreen August 26th, 2010 at 5:35 pm

It’s very strange not having a game (Yankees game) to look forward to tonight.

  25. m August 26th, 2010 at 5:36 pm

    That’s right! Go, Waipio!

  26. Doreen August 26th, 2010 at 5:40 pm

How old is Paul Konerko? He was with the White Sox back in ’99 when we were living there and went to WSox games. My daughter used to love his name over the P.A. — “PAW-ul kon-ER-ko” along with her all-time favorite “MAG-lee-oh or-DON-yez”

  27. CR9 August 26th, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Maggles Ordonez, another product of the steroid era!

I saw 2 lookalike people today: One guy looked EXACTLY like Chone Figgins. Even the same patch of facial hair on his chin. I tried to coyly get a picture with my phone, but I couldnt do it.

Also saw a guy that looks EXACTLY like Glen Big Baby Davis of the criminal celtics. His face was the spitting image of Davis, and he had the same exact eyes also, teary, red, almost irritated eyes. I call them murderous eyes!

  28. m August 26th, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Ooh. Rays vs. Red Sox tomorrow. That makes this Chicago series very important. We need to take care of business.

  29. Eroc August 26th, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Very excited to hear Hawk Harrellson tomorrow. Been waiting all year

  30. CR9 August 26th, 2010 at 6:00 pm

Oh, to be clear, the Davis guy was not foaming at the mouth performing histrionics that were 100 times worse than Joba Chamberlain, nor was the guy creating 100 nicknames for himself!

Ugh, you and me both. Forced to listen to the Chicago feed because I live 30 miles from downtown.

Sigh. No broadcaster is more irritating to the ears. Not even Micheal Kay.

“Maggles Ordonez, another product of the steroid era! ”

Unfortunately, so are Dan Nava, Ron McDonald, Ellsbury, Cameron, Dusty Brown, Varitek, Victor Martinez, Ortiz, Millar, Beltre, Beckett, Buchholz, Lester, Wakefield, Delcarmen, Papelbon, Bard, Bill Hall, Kalish, Michael Bowden, Casey Kelly, Lackey, Youkallis, Pedroia, Lowell, Scott Atchistson, Felix Doubront, Jed Lowrie, Marco Scutero, and JD Drew.

lol! Well, Im not getting into that today. And who is Dusty Brown? Also, I believe Victor and Wake to be clean and actually decent human beings.

    Ugh, forgot all about him.

Of all the weekends to get no ESPN/FOX games, they chose this one?

  36. CR9 August 26th, 2010 at 6:07 pm

What a much needed day off this was. I really needed a break. I’ve been physically and emotionally drained recently. Imagine how the Yankees must feel. They deserve this day off.

  37. m August 26th, 2010 at 6:09 pm

If it would guarantee us a sweep, I’d promise to tape earphones and not make one snarky comment about Hawk.

    But it won’t, so I won’t.

Sad that we’d prefer morgan/miller and buck/carver over the Chicago crew. :yuck:

  40. Giuseppe Franco August 26th, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Hawk’s broadcast partner, Steve Stone, is fine. He was the color guy for the Cubs on WGN for something like 20 years.

Hawk brings the whole team down. And the sport, for that matter.

  41. Joe from Long Island August 26th, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Doreen – Where in Chicago did you live? For better and worse, I spent 9 years of my life in Hyde Park, by the University.

    Bryan Mitchell-SP
Brad Suttle- healthy and tearing the cover off the ball in Tampa….switch hitting 3B good glove

  46. m August 26th, 2010 at 6:21 pm

So bored, I’m going to hunt down the latest ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians”. :)

  47. Joe from Long Island August 26th, 2010 at 6:22 pm

Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone. I remember both of them as players. I remember when Stone won 20. Hawk was the guy who popularized batting gloves (he started with golf gloves).

  48. BronxBorn August 26th, 2010 at 6:24 pm

GF very glad to hear you are doing so well.

  49. Tom in N.J. August 26th, 2010 at 6:24 pm

New Post: Same place, same hitter, different results

  51. champ809 August 26th, 2010 at 6:30 pm

There a few guys that we drafted this year that while it’s obviously very early I’m looking forward to seeing if their skillsets translate.

Taylor”Jake”Anderson- out with TJ surgery but plays all over the field primarily SS-CF and shows a real advanced talent for hitting.

Rob Segedin- 3B/RF an excellent hitter and intangibles guy who mashed and led the Tulane program. A Jersey Boy so local products are good imo.

Mason Williams-CF/SS Towers pet pick….according to Ca$h and Newman Towers was really pounding the table on this kid and that’s why the yanks paid so much for him ( 1.4mil ) even though he was a 4th rd pick.

Zach Varce- SP a great story seems to have a lotta bulldog in him and is a devoted fan of Greg Maddux. Carries his baseball card in his pocket everytime he’s on the mound to pitch.

  52. Giuseppe Franco August 26th, 2010 at 6:30 pm

    Thanks, Bronx. Much appreciated.
