Robinson Cano 2B

Curtis Granderson CF

Like this is a surprise; I don’t know why Joe had him in the lineup in the first place instead of giving him a day off

Being mindful of a third place team that should have been dead in the water a long time ago, but isn’t yet, is not being fearful or obsessive. It is acknowledging that at the very least, they remain a pebble in the shoe. Again, I’ll say, I’d feel the same way if they were the Schenactady Schooners.
===========================================================
Wasn’t really addressed at you but if the shoe fits…
I’m guessing bp didn’t go very well……
Feel better Tex!!
“Felix Hernandez won’t be winning the Cy Young Award this year, period. Other than relievers, the lowest win total ever by a Cy Young Award winner is 16-he has virtually no chance to get there and, with Bucholz at 15-5 with a 2.21 ERA and CC probably going to win 22-23 games he just has no chance, nor does he deserve it for 2010. He’s a great pitcher, unquestionably, but that’s not enough to win the award this year.”

MG,
Lincecum won the CY with 15 wins last year.
Why doesn’t Felix deserve it?
I think Robinson Cano and Miguel Cabrera will be really close in the MVP voting, and Josh Hamilton could end up winning it. Also – Jose Bautista will probably steal a few votes in the top 3-5.
It’s hard to find someone else who’s as good as Robbie defensively and has similar offensive numbers. If he can crack 100rbi and 33ish HRs while playing some great defense at second base, it’s hard for me to see anyone else getting it. That kind of production from a second baseman is just incredibly valuable, whereas Cabrera isn’t very good defensively and is producing like a 1B should, albeit being one of the best.
Hamilton is huge for Texas, but it’s hard for me to see him getting it if he and Cano finish with similar HR and RBI totals, again because of the defense angle.
Betsy,
You want to sit and then send everybody to the DL with any injury.
Sometimes you just have to trust the people evaluating these players on a daily basis.
I’d rather have titles and personal achievements.

Mel,
I’m with you. Why can’t the Yankees have it all.
LGY, where exactly did I say DL Tex? Tell me, please.
LGY – I sure hope you are correct. Alfredo & Arley want to start a family, but, after he got hurt, they put those plans on hold. If all goes well with the contract this off season, we may see a new addition to the Yankees family.
Also, please tell me why it’s not good to be cautious. I thought Alex should have been DL’d all along……………..and I was wrong about that?

Cano for MVP!!!!!!
Looking at Casey Kelly’s numbers for 2010 – they are not that impressive – and why is he only at 95 innings for the year – there is being cautious – but a 20 year old going on 21 at AA – you do not need to be that cautious – i get it that in 2009 he split the year pitching/hitting wise – i guess – but it was not an overly impressive 2010 campaign for the Sox top pitching prospect. It seems as if Kelly would have benefited from being in High A ball instead of AA this past season – i wonder if this will impact his development.
why not jorge at first
Big AL,
If it is a boy, hopefully he can pitch like his Dad.
I am a big Aceves fan. I hope all goes well with his back and he is back with the team soon.
Erin – You are forgetting about Hamilton from Texas. He is having a monster year, and I think he gets MVP. I’d love to see Cano get it, but, for that to happen, he’ll have to finish much stronger, IMO.
LGY – Boys run in the family!
The MVP race is between Cano & Hamilton imo. I don’t think Cabrera wins it if no playoffs for the Tigers.
Today is an important game.
Not only is it for the series win, but a win today will guarantee picking up a game on either the BoSox or the Rays.
Losing today guarantees losing a game to one of them.
Why wouldn’t Joe want to put Tex out there if he could? See if he can play, and if he can’t, you sit him. Which is exactly what he did.

You mean besides the fact that he’s 10-10? Take away his wins against us, he’s a sub .500 pitcher. He simply doesn’t have the stats for a Cy Young push.

He can do it! I’m sticking with my Cano for MVP campaign.
I’m probably not the one to ask if you want an unbiased opinion on who should get MVP though.
New Post w/pregame notes
LGY – Alfredo’s back has been holding up well, and he feels good. It’s now about getting the rust off, so to speak. Right now he’s going through ST all over again, the tough way.
Sad to say, still no one matched today’s lineup.

LGY, I had only looked at AL winners so missed Lincecum’s 15 wins last year but he shouldn’t have won it either-Carpenter and Wainwright both had better numbers but split the 1st place votes.
Felix is 10-10, he probably has 6-7 starts left. If he were to win each start and finish at 16 or 17-10 with a lower ERA than Bucholz there could be a case made but Seattle is so bad that’s highly unlikely. Bucholz will probably wind up with 18-19 wins and a lower ERA than Felix and CC is going to win 22-23 games, I just don’t see how a mediocre year (in terms of wins and losses) by a great pitcher can overcome the other two guys.
Fran,
Yankees and their fans are used to having their cake and eating it, too!
Even for me, this is the best possible LLWS matchup.
As for the DL guys? I wish them a speedy recovery. But I have every confidence the Yankees will keep their focus and intensity. You only can play the players you’ve got.
Last year Grienke won Cy Young with 16 wins and Linecum with 15, but neither league had a 20-game winner.
King Felix has ten wins now, which is EIGHT behind CC and that’s just way too much.
It would be phenomenal to pick up Napoli, but that would cost one or two elite guys not on the 40-man. Probably Romine and a good pitcher.
I wonder what starting pitchers might have cleared waivers too.
m
It’s a “cake and eat it too” thing.
I was joking back with Pat, Al. Her comment was about going to play with the other children, was what I was responding to.
I started my comment out by saying I hadn’t realized I was in the sandbox. Meaning I was under the impression *was* having a reasonable discussion with adults, and not children.
But whatever, you seem to know my intentions of my comments better than me. Carry on with your object lesson.
And FTR I’ve defended Betsy’s right to her opinion MANY times. I just didn’t agree with her on this one, and thought that she was being a bit defensive. Which is her right.
Just read through the last thread.
Some people here are way too sensitive.
It really gets old reading the same drivel everyday.
I do not support personal attacks in any way. In fact, I abhor such behavior.
However, the point of a discussion forum is to discuss. That means varying opinions. If someone disagrees with you, that doesn’t automatically mean it’s a personal attack.
Even for me, this is the best possible LLWS matchup

Mel,
That is exciting. Hope they win
Angel – All’s good, I may have misread your intension.
Felix Hernandez is the best pitcher in the American League. Only Cliff Lee is close. That’s not really up for debate.
The fact that he’s pitched behind an historically bad offense is reason he won’t win the Cy Young award this year. No other reason.
Measuring pitching wins as an inidicator of individual performance is folly.
This is a really crappy lineup.
