    **********

    Why???
During the playoffs Tim McCarver declared GGBG “one of the greatest bunters in the league”

  3. Erica in NY September 1st, 2010 at 3:45 pm

I can say with certainty that I probably would not have guessed this lineup

  4. pat September 1st, 2010 at 3:45 pm

eboland11 Callups: Golson, Albaladejo, Moeller. Berkman activated

  5. Bronx Jeers September 1st, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I guess Jeter in the cage yesterday laying down some left-handed bunts sent a message.

    SJ,

You work closely with the NFL right? Just wondering if you know Jay Moyer, the special counsel for the NFL?

If you don’t feel comfortable answering, no problem.

Maybe Gardner should get in there and take a few pitches to send a message back.

I’ve often wondered how Jeter would do as a switch hitter with a drag bunt being an option

  9. SJ44 September 1st, 2010 at 3:51 pm

    LGY,

Met him a few times but, I don’t know him well.

LOL! No one would notice because BG is already taking two strikes or more every at bat!

Garner isn’t the only one that could use some practice on bunting. It’s pretty said that the best bunter as far as successful sac bunts per attempt is probably Swisher. I don’t recall him screwing one up in 2 years with NYYs. Even Cervelli, who was really good at sac bunts this year and last is getting sloppy. Jeter was never a good bunter, regardless of reputation.

I thought Granderson was being platooned :x

    “Broken contract… mended fences.”

Yeah, I saw that on Imax. Still stinks.

  14. Crawdaddy September 1st, 2010 at 3:55 pm

Jeter was never a good bunter? Interesting, but I disagree.

  15. LGY September 1st, 2010 at 3:55 pm

    SJ,

Gotcha. I have a class with him this semester and when I saw what he did other than teach now I figured you might know him.

    LOL!

Jeter’s only issue is distenguishing between sac bunts and bunts for hits. He uses the same technique…his own, which is half way in between the two. Left handed pitchers on the mound, drag or push it between the mound and 1st base. Right handed pitchers, push it down the third base line.

LGY – If you don’t mind, what are you studying?

  19. Crash September 1st, 2010 at 3:57 pm

Gardner is pretty good at laying down sac bunts. Its that drag bunt to the 2nd basemen where he is bunting for a base hit that needs work. Whenever he tried that lately hes been popping them up. If he can get that down. GGBG will get his obp up to 400.

    Joe,

    I’m in law school.

  22. Joe from Long Island September 1st, 2010 at 3:59 pm

LGY – good luck with your studies.

    Back to work….

  23. GreenBeret7 September 1st, 2010 at 4:00 pm

The best drag bunter I’ve ever seen was Mantle. If it bounced more than once, they weren’t going to get him. He was as good as Fox and aparicio at putting them down third, too.

  24. RayVT September 1st, 2010 at 4:00 pm

    Crash September 1st, 2010 at 3:57 pm

He needs to drag to 1B or 3B.

  25. LGY September 1st, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Thanks Joe. A little luck will be nice around finals time :)

Wave – You said a couple of threads ago: “For the fan, defensive metrics are very useful. ”

Could you tell me why. I am not being facetious here, honestly would like to know why and how they are useful.
