Yankees respond to reports of moving out of Tampa

The Yankees have responded to reports out of Florida that the team is considering moving at least part of its operation out of Tampa, where the team currently has its spring training facility and and its High-A affiliate.

Here’s the statement from the Yankees.

“Reports today that the New York Yankees are considering moving the spring training facility from Tampa are completely erroneous. The Yankees are in very preliminary discussions regarding the possibility of a partial sale of their Single-A Tampa minor league affiliate to a potential group of Orange County, Fla., investors. The investors will make an announcement tomorrow. These exploratory conversations will have no impact on the Yankees’ spring training facility or the Major League team.”

No mention of the minor league side there. :x

So they still might move the minor league team to Orlando. It would be a waste to only use steinbrenner field just for spring training.

According to news reports in Taiwan, the Yankees have determined that their contract with Tzu-Wei Lin was invalid. Supposedly, his father had signed off on the contract, but TW Lin’s signature was nowhere to be found

Duh, why is this even a topic that they had to address or the papers picked up? Obviously their not moving from Tampa. They play in what has to be the biggest and relatively nicest complex in FLA. Plus it’s minutes to the airport, hotels, etc…it would make zero sense to move unless they were promised a totally free complex that rivals the current, which is not happening.
The papers did this for one purpose only, to sell more papers, it’s total garbage.

Nick in SF…….After reading last nights postings about the In-n-Out Hughes win tradition, I think we decided on that because Young Master Hughes worked there while attending Foothill HS……Maybe someone can go back to the April postings and find out if it’s that important…….Speaking of which, I’m off to the gym to work off the 1 k calories or so that come with that victory nod……

So the Yankees screwed up another Taiwan baseball relationship???

    Unbelievable.

Why not just sent Randy Levine to french-kiss the Communists and get it over with.

The Yanks problems with Taiwanese baseball players have just begun.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

“Remember Chien Ming!” will be a rallying cry for generations to come.

    Nick,

The people in Taiwan are certainly NOT Communists.

Hughes working at in-n-out was my recollection. I wonder if they told him he had to go because he was growing too big. I know he worked at his parents’ place, too.

    Brian,

Thats the point. French kissing them would enrage Taiwan.

To the contrary, the kid himself wanted desperately to break the contract.

After he agreed to the deal with the yankee, the Twins reportedly offered him twice as much money. And since then he’s been trying to say the yankees took advantage of him.

    Broken contract… mended fences.

Sounds like a gibberish story fed to the media by Stuart Sternberg, the owner of the Rays.

Last night’s attendance at the Jays vs. Rays game was a whopping 12,972.
