So far so good at Yankee Stadium

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Sep 03, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

There are a few clouds in the sky, but the sun in shining at Yankee Stadium this morning, and that seems to be a good sign.

A few days ago, the forecast suggested there was very little chance the Yankees would actually play this game — and I don’t think anyone was looking forward to playing two games tomorrow.

Today, it’s seems to be about 50-50. There’s roughly a 50 percent chance of rain during today’s game. The Weather Channel has it closer to 10-percent at first pitch, closer to 70 percent in the late innings.

At least there’s a fighting chance they can get this game in. It didn’t look that way a couple of days ago.

Kind of hoping it gets rained out so I don’t miss the game while at work. What’s with all these day games??? Do the Yankees think we’re all public school teachers?

If they do get the game in, I wonder if the wind will be playing a big factor in the game.

That might make it a tough game.

    LOL GG
my husband is a teacher, but he is back at work

Haha I promise it’s not a knock on teachers, just jealous that I couldn’t watch yesterday or today’s games.

Let’s hope that Nova isn’t distracted by the B12 investigation, and continues to show flashes of that up-and-coming front line presence on the mound.

    B12 is like candy anyway.

From the looks of the activated radar shots, it appears that the heaviest rain might skirt the edges of Nyc for a few hours before hitting, other than light and scattered showers. All NYYs need to do it grab a quick lead and get through 5 innings and wait until the rain washes out the rest of the game around 3:30 or 4:00.

  8. Mgumpher September 3rd, 2010 at 9:48 am

Ross, the stuff about the B12 injection investigation was out prior to his last start, so unless there is something new on it, I don’t think it should distract Nova.

  9. GreenBeret7 September 3rd, 2010 at 9:49 am

Nova will not be a front line, front of the rotation starter for the Yankees. Perhaps close if he’s traded to one of about 10 other pitching poor teams.

    GB-

If the Giants can play through an earthquake then the Yanks ought be be able to handle some wind and rain.

I like your strategy. Early lead then poof here comes the rain. Game over.

“I wonder if Boston makes a deal with the Mets to get Jason Bay, back. Not a spectacular player, but, he was good in Boston. That was a huge mistake to let him go.”

GB, I thought about that too. In some ways Bay was a better fit for the Sox and Lackey was a better fit for the Mets.

If I told you in March the following:

Derek Jeter would have the worst year of his career.
As would Arod, who would also miss over 20 games with injuries.
    Tex wouldn’t hit for 2 1/2 months.
AJ and Javy would alternate months in which they were the worst starting pitchers in the league.
All of the winter acquisitions would bust out except for Marcus Thames.
Andy Pettitte would miss two months.

After all the above, I would then say, “They will be 34 games over .500 and have the best record in baseball”, you would have told me there was no way that could happen.

That’s how good this team is.

    SJ-

“That’s how good this team is.”

And they’re going to be even better next year. ;)

It should be an interesting finish. NYY needs to go 19 and 9 to equal last years record. I don’t think that’s likely, but, I can’t see Tampa getting that close, either. NYY just needs to play at the percentage they are and Tampa won’t be able to catch up. An 18-10 or 17-11 record would do it with room to spare.

remember all the concern last year that Robbie couldn’t hit w/ RISP, and how would he ever perform hitting 5th??? it feels like it was so long ago!

Was catching up on some of the posts from yesterday, re: 2004, if any sox fan gives you crap about it the response is pretty simple. You can make the argument that this was just a result of the enormous and unprecedented success the Yankees have had as a franchise. They’ve been in so many post seasons, way more than any other baseball team, probably more than most of them combined actually, that this was a statistical probability, it had to to happen some time, like it did in the NHL a few times. They’re such a product of their own success that they put themselves in this position. As a Yankee fan I happily take that 2004 season compared to all the other championships. Look at 1978 and both Boston Massacres, plus 2003 game 7, to me those more than make up for 2004, as tough as it was to take it had to happen some time.

Lot’s of head to head play to the wire. That’s where the rubber meets the road.

Dear Rain, Please go elsewhere. My seat for today does not have cover. kthxbye

The best to hope for is taking 4 of 6 from Boston and splitting with Tampa. After that it’s continue doing to Texas and baltimore. Toronto is the kicker in this thing.

The RS looks for bargains. If Beltran shows he’s healthy this offseason, there are reports that the Mets would eat half of his contract to move him. In a contract year, he could be worth a lot, again, if he’s healthy.

  21. GreenBeret7 September 3rd, 2010 at 10:10 am

continue doing ***damage*** to Texas and Baltimore.

GB – That’s an interesting thougt about the Red Sox re-acquring Bay from the Mets. The Red Sox know what he can do in Fenway. I bet the Mets would love to do it. From what I’ve sensing from the NY rumor mill, they’re looking to shed up to $20M from next year’s payroll, due to their and the Wilpon’s finances. Nobody’s going to relieve them of Beltran’s contract ($18.5M), nor Perez, Castillo. So, Bay at $16M would go a long way to making the bankers happy.

The thing is…The Red Sox shied away from Bay because of injury concerns. Shoulder, I think it was. I don’t see anything that would make Bay’s any less of an issue, and with his concussion there might be even more questions.

  23. GreenBeret7 September 3rd, 2010 at 10:15 am

Joe, I’d guess that moving some B level talent and the Mets eating around half the Bay contract…assuming that bay can pass a physical. You’re right. Nobody’s touching Beltra for that cost. Oliver, they are stuck with. Somebody will go for Castillo for half maybe with littke back in return.
