I guess they are waiting until ARod comes back to give Robbie a day off…

  2. rb from LI September 4th, 2010 at 10:53 am

Robbie will probably sit tomorrow when Alex is back. I was kind of hoping he’s sit today.

  3. rb from LI September 4th, 2010 at 10:53 am

    he’s = he’d

I was just thinking the same thing…he sure has looked tired lately

  5. Cashman needs to go September 4th, 2010 at 10:54 am

Arod with 2 groundouts a K and 2 singles -looks like he’s back to normal!! ;-)

  6. Noreaster September 4th, 2010 at 10:55 am

Agreed Kate, Robbie is running on fumes right now.

  7. Joe from Long Island September 4th, 2010 at 10:56 am

I’m surprised, also, that Robbie is playing. But, Joe knows his team better than I.

  8. Doreen September 4th, 2010 at 10:58 am

Yeah, Robbie’s been a stalwart. But his avg has taken a plunge and the heat and no off days has got to be taking their toll.

  9. JM September 4th, 2010 at 10:58 am

Hope Javy’s velocity remains back up as a starter. The Jays can rake. Big test for him today.

  10. SAS September 4th, 2010 at 10:59 am

With Cervelli and Nunez playing, it is tough to give Robbie a day off. Maybe tomorrow if Posada is in the line up, they can give Cano a much deserved day of downtime.

Excellent updates Chad – great work!

  12. upstate kate September 4th, 2010 at 11:06 am

the more we win, the calmer this board gets

it sounds like Andy is just about ready, he should be back in the rotation pretty soon, maybe in time for the 1st Tampa series. He barely had any live games in spring training and pitched great so this should be any different.

  15. pat September 4th, 2010 at 11:09 am

Robbie’s played 160 games give or take the last few years.

He’s 27 year olds and a strong guy.

    He’ll be fine.

  16. MG September 4th, 2010 at 11:11 am

Robbie may be tired and need a day off but he’s 2-6 with a HR and BB off Rzepcynski, I’m sure he wants to be in the lineup today. I’m sure the heat and humidity has taken its toll on him, I’d look for him to start raking again with a day or two off and some cooler weather.

  17. Noreaster September 4th, 2010 at 11:13 am

Robbie may be strong and ‘fine’, but everybody needs a day off now and again. Hopefully he breaks out today, but he looks tired. In years past the 2nd half has been his time to shine. That has not been the case this year. His average has dropped every month.

  18. SAS September 4th, 2010 at 11:15 am

It is supposed to be a bit windy today, but it is gorgeous. The heat has broken for a few days and no humidity.

Be back later, be sure that the Yankees are well ahead by the time I return. Those are the games I enjoy the most….lol

  19. Asd September 4th, 2010 at 11:17 am

When your starting average is like. 800 I think that’s inevitable.

Actually, he hit .276 in July and .292 in August so it hasn’t been dropping each month. The strange thing is that he isn’t striking out any more now than in April and getting more walks, he’s just not getting as many hits to fall in. Some of that is pitchers have adjusted and are being much more careful with him than they were earlier in the season and in previous years, it’s just another in the constant series of adjustments that players and teams make during a season.

Going through press releases for Fashion Week in NY next week and came across this company who will be showing for the first time. Derek and Alex shirts will be available later this month.

If only Kevin Long could put a quick fix to Cervelli’s bat he might be a contributor.

  23. Noreaster September 4th, 2010 at 11:25 am

MG, Semantics…his overall average has been dropping month to month where in the past he would get stronger. I think we can all agree that a day or two off this month would only benefit Cano.

Oh, now doubt he’ll be fine; but I have to believe if Alex was healthy, he’d have gotten a day somewhere along the line. Not suggesting more than a day. He’s really the only one who’s played that many games without a break. I realize it’s out of necessity. But, watching the BA slide down hasn’t been nice. :)

  25. upstate kate September 4th, 2010 at 11:31 am

I guess life is good in Yankee land if the main topic of discussion is Robbie’s need for a day off!

  26. Doreen September 4th, 2010 at 11:32 am

    MG -

I have noticed that Robbie has hit the ball hard – right at people – for the last week or so. Not getting as many to fall in.

I always wonder though, is it because he’s a hair slower and the ball goes just a little too much right or left or whatever than it would if he was right on? Or is it strictly “luck”?

  27. blake September 4th, 2010 at 11:33 am

yea I’d say Robbie may get his day off tomorrow with Alex back in the lineup…he’s young….he’ll be fine.

    Let’s go Javy.
