Cano out, Rodriguez in

Brett Gardner LF
Derek Jeter SS
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Marcus Thames DH
Jorge Posada C
Curtis Granderson CF
Greg Golson RF
Ramiro Pena 2B

Just a few minutes ago Joe Girardi specifically said it would be either Nick Swisher or Thames in right. Now it’s Golson. You can’t predict lineups.

Good to see Robbie get a day off. I guess Swish is still hurting.

    “You can’t predict lineups.”

That’s why I’ve never once made an attempt to Guess The Lineup (GTLU).

    Chad,
I did win Guess the Line-up this season, but admittedly Joe Girardi did win more than I did :)

Glad Alex is back. I did expect Robbie would get the day off today with Alex coming back

    Heading to the beach shortly.

Let’s go Yankees! Keep the streak alive. Enjoy the game, everyone.

Keep Rodriguez and Posada healthy, get Swisher and Kearnes along with Pettitte healthy and this team will break a lot of enemy hearts.

  8. Giuseppe Franco September 5th, 2010 at 11:54 am

Still not a bad lineup and they’ve got Cano, Berkman, Swisher, and Kearns (if he can pinch hit) sitting on the bench just in they are needed.

A few interesting comments from Jim Callis of BA.

Nick (Connecticut): Is the Yankees farm system in the top 15?

Jim Callis: Yes. It takes a lot of time to break down all the systems and rank them against each other, but I’m confident enough to say the Yankees should rank in the top 10.

Matt (Boston, MA): Hey Jim, Bostons’ farm system hasn’t had the best year, however with the existing talent and the influx from the ‘10 draft, could we still be looking at a top five system at years end?

Jim Callis: I think their system is better than it looks and the 2010 draft influx will help, but they won’t be in the top five. I’m guessing 11-15 range

    ==============================================

Wow!!! Baseball America and Jim Callis are going to be in trouble for saying that. Doesn’t Callis Know that there is a Constitutional Amendment which requires all citizens to claim the the Red Sox minor league system is without peer?

just in case they are needed.

A player I’d like to see the Yankees get is Colby Rasmus. A young LH outfielder. He doesn’t get along with Tony LaRussa and is rumored to want out of St. Louis…

  12. GreenBeret7 September 5th, 2010 at 11:57 am

Players to consider trading are many, but, combinations of Nova, Cervelli, Albaladejo, Pena, Colin Curtis, Kevin Russo, Miranda, or Jorge Vazquez for a young power bat like Billy Butler (who may be on the block) and signing John Buck or Miguel Olivo (unless Rockies pick up his option) along with Lee could be a possibility. One other pitcher that may be on the market is Jorge De La Rosa of Colorado (FA) who would fit really nicely if Pettitte does leave.

  13. SJ44 September 5th, 2010 at 12:02 pm

LaRussa will be gone so Rasmus will end up staying.

With the money the Cardinals are going to have to pay Pujols, cost controlled guys like Rasmus are like gold to them. They won’t move him.

  14. JS September 5th, 2010 at 12:05 pm

    SJ-

Is there anything more peculiar than LaRussa’s usage of Rasmus? I think he has a legit chance to be a star. He seems to just need the AB’s.

There’s really no big hole on the team that would require trading off quality prospects in the winter. The only way I see that happening is if Texas extends Lee and Lee never reaches free agency. That scenario would require the Yankees putting together a package of talent for a #2 starter.

    Nova, Cervelli, Nunez, Gardner, Romine…

Plenty of quality young talent there.

However, if the Yankees do sign Lee, there’s really no upgrade that would require those caliber young players in a trade, at least none that I see.

  16. Don September 5th, 2010 at 12:10 pm

Lee is hurt, taking cortisone shots etc. Do we still want him, or is he expected to be dominant in the long run?

  17. SJ44 September 5th, 2010 at 12:11 pm

This has not been a good year for LaRussa on the bench.

He just seems burned out and not into it.

He’s always been odd. However this year, his decisions have really cost his team games.

Like Torre at the end of his time with the Yankees, I think he has just been in St. Louis too long and its best for everybody to parts ways at the end of this season.

    Good afternoon Yankee Phans!

    Good to see Alex back.

    Let’s get some innings Phil!!

  19. Tom in N.J. September 5th, 2010 at 12:16 pm

You think LaRussa will be gone fot the Cards, SJ? I never really understood why he didn’t like Rasmus. He’s a nice looking young player…

  20. Bret The Hitman September 5th, 2010 at 12:19 pm

I think the argument for Lee is that if he can stay healthy and anchor the rotation with CC, it allows the Yankees to more comfortably transition young starters into the bottom of the rotation over the life of Lee/CC’s deals. Hughes has benefited from being the 5th starter obviously. Having 2 aces makes it easier to groom Brackman, Betances, Banuelos, Nova and maybe even (gulp) Joba Chamberlain.

  21. GhettoBlaster September 5th, 2010 at 12:23 pm

seems like Larussa always has some feud with a player.

  22. joeysdadjoe September 5th, 2010 at 12:24 pm

SJ that is a very weird team LaRussa has in STL. Seems odd to have Rasmus in and out and to trade Ludwick. Jocketty was huge there.

  23. MattPat11 September 5th, 2010 at 12:35 pm

I can honestly say it never occurred to me that Greg Golson might start today. Its like a game sometimes. The most bizarre answer wins.
