Alex Rodriguez is here and going through drills.
“I’m anticipating he will be (in the lineup),” Joe Girardi said.
Still no lineup, but Girardi said he is also waiting to check on Nick Swisher. He’s going to give Austin Kearns another day. Right field will be either Swisher or Marcus Thames.
A-Rod comes back. The winning streak stops.
They are due a loss sooner or later – could have come yesterday and might come today…
The important thing is to get ready for the playoffs…
A few interesting comments from Jim Callis of BA.
Nick (Connecticut): Is the Yankees farm system in the top 15?
Jim Callis: Yes. It takes a lot of time to break down all the systems and rank them against each other, but I’m confident enough to say the Yankees should rank in the top 10.
Matt (Boston, MA): Hey Jim, Bostons’ farm system hasn’t had the best year, however with the existing talent and the influx from the ‘10 draft, could we still be looking at a top five system at years end?
Jim Callis: I think their system is better than it looks and the 2010 draft influx will help, but they won’t be in the top five. I’m guessing 11-15 range
Robert (GA): How come Freddie Freeman is so underrated? Jesus Montero is called a possible future superstar in the mold of Miguel Cabrera, yet Freeman is only a few months older, in the same league, putting up better numbers. What gives?
Jim Callis: I don’t think Freeman is underrated. But comparing him to Montero . . . he doesn’t have Montero’s power. I think Montero is a better pure hitter as well.

The Killer B’s have done a lot to raise the rating of the Yankees’ farm system. I hope they all remain Yankees.
I’ve said this a few times recently but it’s worth repeating.
The Yanks need to capitalize this winter on a couple of their overachievers this season (Nova?) and fringe 40-man roster guys and trade them as part of a package for useful pieces in return (bullpen arm, experienced catcher, bench guy).
I know SJ has said more than a few times that the Yanks do a really good job self evaluating their own guys and now that the Yankee farm system has had an enormous breakout season at nearly every level it would be a good time to make moves since that area is going to get considerably more recognition this winter for their achievements.
They can’t all directly help the big club but they can help fetch players in return who will help the big club.
The catchers in the organization have lifted the rankings also.
Montero possibly being a true superstar especially at the catching position where he can give a team a huge offensive advantage combined with pitching prospects, especially possible frontline starters has put us in a great position going forward.

Can’t keep all of them. I’m only suggesting they part with the guys they believe have overachieved or players in areas where they already have plenty of depth (such as projected back of the rotation starters).
Certainly not suggesting they move their best talents.
If Cervelli is considered trading material and the Yankees want an experienced backup catcher until they determine Montero is ready, John Buck is a FA after this season.
With 2011 being Jorge’s final year, he may not catch more than 75 games.

I understand what you meant and agree.
Problem is some fans think everyone is the next superstar. They want to hold on too them “just in case” .
Buck will not accept a backup roll.
Players to consider trading are many, but, combinations of Nova, Cervelli, Albaladejo, Pena, Colin Curtis, Kevin Russo, Miranda, or Jorge Vazquez for a young power bat like Billy Butler (who may be on the block) and signing John Buck along with Lee could be a possibility.
John Buck is pricing himself out of a backup role with the season he is having.
Personally, I’d bring Molina back and have Montero on the roster all season.
Having Posada, Pena and Molina tudor Montero gives that kid the best possible chance to stick at catcher.
I’d figure out who among the younger arms they believe can be the fifth starter and keep that guy.
If you took a kid like Phelps, packaged him with Cervelli, and moved him to a team that has a promising SS, 3B, or power hitting OF at the AAA or AA level, I think that improves the Yankees in a big way.
You still have Nunez but, you have competition for the role of Jeter’s replacement, or a power hitting OF, to supplement what’s in the system right now.
I’d have to look at AA and AAA rosters to see who they could target. Don’t really know who that guy can be off the top of my head.
If you really want to get bold, you can make a play for a guy like Matt Kemp.
That however, would cost you greater assets than just Phelps and Cervelli.
Bottom line……its nice to have options, and the Yankees have plenty of them right now.
