No surprise, no lineup

The Yankees clubhouse just opened to reporters, and to no surprise, there’s no lineup on the door.

The Yankees will need to check with Alex Rodriguez, Nick Swisher and possibly Austin Kearns before settling on a batting order. It’s a late report and the only one of the three I’ve seen is Kearns.

Back from Vegas. I see that the Yankees had a good week. Maybe I should stay out there more often. You’ll get no complaints from me.

I also see that TB lost and Boston cost twice. Can we now officially put the Sox to bed? TB now is officially the team to watch for. BTW I read somewhere last week that BaseballProspectus.com had the Rays at 100 wins and the Yankees at 96. Funny stuff.

    Lost. Not cost.

    26 games left.

    15-11? at worst?

    101-61.

“I was embarrassed for myself,” Hughes said. “So I can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for our guys who were battling at the plate to have to sit out there and watch that. I just told them to keep battling and I’ll try to fix whatever’s going on.”

    I love this about hughes.

One day he is going too be on the mound & his fastball, curveball, changeup, cutter are going too start working in harmony & when he get’s the confidence in all of his pitches he is going too be nasty.

The Sox are done and have been for awhile. They can enjoy trying to play spoiler in their remaining games with the Yanks and Rays.

Mitch Williams must be on crack. :)

    Good morning everybody.

Great day yesterday with the Rays and Red Sox both loosing.

I am so impressed with the Yankees bullpen. They have been on quite a roll over the last month. Girardi and Eiland have done a great job again.

Red Sox are making my job hard.

3 magic numbers in about 6 hours.

Let’s all slap forearms and avenge Cervelli’s broken wrist together with the latest magic number photo.

Maybe when Pete left this blog it was equivalent to Buck Showalter leaving the NYY and the Diamondbacks and the ensuing WS championships that followed?

Interesting Verducci article about the improbability of September comebacks in baseball. At the end of the piece is a table showing what has happened to young fiireball pitchers; the stats are not pretty.

My original prediction at the start of the season was 107 wins. Now, that may be stretching things a bit, requiring 21 wins out of the remaining 26, but they’ll get close to it.

    Not too bad….

    JM,

Thanks for the link. I submit this is a must read and much needed reality check for some folks around here.

    thanks for the link JM
it will be interesting to see what happens w/ Chapman

my own unofficial guide to red sox chances is my sister, a long time die hard fan. She quit trash texting me a month ago, that is when I knew the sox were done!

I was happy to see Thome move up a spot on the HR leader board.

A few interesting comments from Jim Callis of BA.

Nick (Connecticut): Is the Yankees farm system in the top 15?

Jim Callis: Yes. It takes a lot of time to break down all the systems and rank them against each other, but I’m confident enough to say the Yankees should rank in the top 10.

Matt (Boston, MA): Hey Jim, Bostons’ farm system hasn’t had the best year, however with the existing talent and the influx from the ’10 draft, could we still be looking at a top five system at years end?

Jim Callis: I think their system is better than it looks and the 2010 draft influx will help, but they won’t be in the top five. I’m guessing 11-15 range

Robert (GA): How come Freddie Freeman is so underrated? Jesus Montero is called a possible future superstar in the mold of Miguel Cabrera, yet Freeman is only a few months older, in the same league, putting up better numbers. What gives?

Jim Callis: I don’t think Freeman is underrated. But comparing him to Montero . . . he doesn’t have Montero’s power. I think Montero is a better pure hitter as well.

    kate,

my aunt and uncle, diehard sox fan, stopped talking baseball on the phone with me right after youkilis got hurt. instead they now try to talk about football. lol. they had a much more realistic view of the sox’ season than a lot of yankee fans, i think.
