Rodriguez back in the Yankees lineup

I’ve been running errands on the day before flying out for a long road trip. Just now got to check twitter for the lineup. Sounds like bad news, but not entirely surprising news, on Alfredo Aceves and Damaso Marte who are expected to be out for the year.

Gardner LF
Jeter SS
Teixeira DH
Rodriguez 3B
Cano 2B
Swisher RF
Berkman 1B
Granderson CF
Cervelli C

    expect them anyway.

  2. Gehrig27 September 8th, 2010 at 11:11 am

No big deal, I wasn’t expecting them anyway. makes the off season easier.

  3. mick September 8th, 2010 at 11:11 am

Why not flip Jeter and Swish?
Swish has been the more successful #2 all year.
Jeter up 6th is not an insult.
    Sacrilige to try it?

  4. Gehrig27 September 8th, 2010 at 11:12 am

Yankees Crush the 33 games behind Oriholes.
Crush…like a tank over the head of Al Queda.

  5. Gehrig27 September 8th, 2010 at 11:13 am

If you put Jeter anywhere but 1 or 2 the media would go crazy and create a huge distraction for the team. Unless Jeter told them that he suggested it and no further comments.

The previous post was just featured/mentioned on baseball-reference:

    Mick:

Swisher is 0 for September to this point and with a balky knee. Not necessarily the guy who want setting the table right now, despite his succees so far this year.

Jeter certainly does not have the numbers to be hitting sixth either. With Cervelli playing he should hit 8th today.

But as many have said, it would create a media circus unless Jeter made a public statement that he suggested it to Joe G.

who will whine about skipping hughes first?

before anyone does, lets recall what we have received from him lately on normal rest.

  10. Jason Voorhees September 8th, 2010 at 11:29 am

OMG YOU CAN’T SKIP HUGHES HE’S THE BEST PITCHER EVAR. I DISAGREE WITH EVERYTHING THE YANKEES DO BECAUSE I ARE SMARTER.

Hopefully by the time I hit send I will still be the first to whine and can declare myself a winner. Yay life.

  11. upstate kate September 8th, 2010 at 11:32 am

why should anyone (except Jason :) ) complain about Phil being skipped?
we all know he is on an innings limit

  12. I Like Inge September 8th, 2010 at 11:33 am

Why do people bring up dropping Jeter in the lineup. That is not happening. It’s an insult to Jeter and will create a media frenzy this team does not need. Let the man play. He’s had a bad year, so what. Numbers don’t matter any more this late in the season. Getting wins is all that matters.

  13. PagsandRags September 8th, 2010 at 11:45 am

With a ground ball pitcher Tex should be playing 1B. He doesn’t need a half day off to DH when they have a full (travel) day off tomorrow.

  14. ac1 September 8th, 2010 at 11:47 am

    Jason you did it! :)

  15. Tex September 8th, 2010 at 11:49 am

How did Marte hurt his shoulder — In his last appearance, he smoothly struck out the side in Oakland?

  16. Chambliss September 8th, 2010 at 11:50 am

Jeter is not going to bat below 2nd. End of discussion.

  17. tyanksfan36 September 8th, 2010 at 11:50 am

    PagsandRags

I totally agree, thinking of Berkman at first base just brings up flashbacks of his first game in Tampa misplaying all those balls that came his way.

  18. mick September 8th, 2010 at 11:52 am

You guys are right, Jeter shouldn’t be protecting anyone in the order, leave him alone.

  19. Gehrig27 September 8th, 2010 at 11:53 am

I think Joe is dropping back and punting right now.
It’s fourth and 20 and we are looking at a full court press with our top guy in the penelty box…

Couldn’t agree more. The way the Yankees have played over the last three days, no one should be getting a day off – or even “half” a day off – today. Girardi’s job as manager is to do everything within his power to avoid our first four-game losing streak of the season. That includes putting our best first baseman in the starting lineup. If we lose today’s game because Berkman misses a big play, it will be down to the Tinkerman (aka Joe Girardi). There’s a right time and a wrong time to rest players. Today is NOT the day.

  21. Gehrig27 September 8th, 2010 at 11:54 am

We need Bubby Crosby in this game. Fold Needle boys’ arm back again.

  22. mick September 8th, 2010 at 11:56 am

I don’t think Joe G wants the division as much as you guys who are in a state of panic, thank god he isn’t. we still have a lead and are guaranteed the playoffs, simmer down heah.

  23. Gehrig27 September 8th, 2010 at 11:57 am

What are they thinking? DH our GG First baseman?
    Joe! What discussion prompted this?

The only thing I can think of is that Mark T. has the diarrhea.

  24. Yankee Trader September 8th, 2010 at 11:59 am

Looks like the pitchers against Texas will be Vazquez, AJ, and Moseley, with Moseley possibly vs. Cliff Lee on Sunday,

Also feel Tex should be at 1st. Hope that Gardner is more aggressive on the base paths, to avoid the DP.

  25. mick September 8th, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Not a good lookin trio vs Texas. Will prolly sweep.
Tex gets 2 days rest before possible Texas heat.

  26. Don Vito A. Bellamo September 8th, 2010 at 12:06 pm

Wednesday in Tampa, Yankees are going with Hughes on extra rest over Javy….can’t say that either option is a recipe for success, right ?…..winning 2 of 3 against Tampa with CC, Nova and Hughes on extra rest would certainly be a surprise, but I’ll take it !

  27. mick September 8th, 2010 at 12:06 pm

The staff is all mixed up. Will Andy open in Tampa or will CC? Hard to follow…

  28. mick September 8th, 2010 at 12:08 pm

It’s set up tho the rest of the way with CC, Andy and Phil for the ALDS.

  29. Niblick September 8th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

I don’t like Berkman at first.

I don’t like Jeter hitting second either, but I’m afraid we’re stuck with that until he retires.

    ————————–

What is this. Jeter can still play. “We’re stuck with him until he retires”. Are you serious? You guys trashing Jeter will be eating a lot of crow. The dude can easily play great ball for the next 8 weeks or so and all this bashing will look ridiculous.

By the way, glad you are not the manager. If you have no faith in an all-star player who’s close to 3,000 hits and a 5-time world champ that does it over and over in big spots then you cannot have faith in anyone.

  31. mick September 8th, 2010 at 12:18 pm

    Jeter has not been himself.
The question remains is he done or is this a slump or is he hurt?
If this will be his norm, he will be dropped in the order next year.

  32. Bronx Jeers September 8th, 2010 at 12:21 pm

I love that Joe is always trying to keep guys fresh. But tomorrow’s an off day followed by a night game on Fri.

Tex is a big boy. He can handle 1st base today.

And let Berk concentrate on his swing and not have to worry about his glove. Is he going to play 1B in the postseason? No.

  33. blake September 8th, 2010 at 12:25 pm

I’m not one to lineup complain but unless Tex is banged up, I don’t understand taking one of your best defenders off the field with a rookie pitcher on the mound in a game you really need to win…especially with an off day tomorrow.

    # I Like Inge

You didn’t read my comment carefully, nor did you quote it accurately. I wrote “that”, not “him”, meaning we’re stuck with him batting 2nd as opposed to somewhere lower in the order.

Please read more carefully before you respond to comments in such a negative fashion.
