Sabathia finally gets No. 20

There is a 20-game winner in the Major Leagues, and it’s CC Sabathia. The Yankees ace finally reached the milestone with an 11-3 win tonight in Baltimore. He is the first pitcher to reach 20 wins this season, and it’s the first time he’s reached 20 wins in his career. The Yankees backed him by scoring in seven of nine innings. They got a two-run home run from Robinson Cano and a three-run homer from Curtis Granderson. Brett Gardner had three hits.

    Congrats, CC!

Nice, easy win for the Yankees…………

Golson forgot about it being CC’s 20th and he threw the last ball into the stands………….

The Yankees Magic Number to clinch the division is now 15

    Hi Betsy…

    ===================================

    Hooray for CC

  6. Nick in SF September 18th, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Remember when Doc Halladay was going to win 30?

Remember with Ubaldo Jimenez already had 15 wins in April?

But who is the game’s first 20-game winner!

Two-time Warren Spahn award winner CC Sabathia, that’s who!

  7. Jerkface September 18th, 2010 at 10:09 pm

I am completely surprised they were able to pull this one out against the Orioles, the likely AL Pennant winners.

  8. pat September 18th, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Angels have lots of pitchers I’ve never heard of.

  9. Betsy September 18th, 2010 at 10:10 pm

    Hey SAS

    How are you tonight?

  10. m September 18th, 2010 at 10:10 pm

Congrats to CC! Just need a couple insurance wins. ;)

Nice to have Brett back. And hitting.

  11. SAS September 18th, 2010 at 10:11 pm

    Nick,

Where do you go to dinner to celebrate CC?

  12. m September 18th, 2010 at 10:11 pm

    Leadoff double.

  13. SAS September 18th, 2010 at 10:12 pm

    Betsy,

Good thanks and you. Happy for CC as we all are on here…I hope.

  14. blake September 18th, 2010 at 10:12 pm

    Congrats CC!

Swisher and Gardner do make a significant difference to this team. Having them both in the lineup really helps the offense go.

CC should have a legit and realistic shot at 300 wins if he stays healthy. He needs 144…so if he just averages 15 a season then he should get there in around 9 and a half seasons…

  15. pat September 18th, 2010 at 10:12 pm

LAA gonna blow it unless Maddon tries to get too cute.

    1 Adam 12 – CC the man!

  17. Donna L September 18th, 2010 at 10:13 pm

Congratulations to CC! Hard to believe he’s the first African-American pitcher to win 20 since Dontrelle Willis five years ago, and only the second since Dave Stewart last won 20 in 1990, twenty years ago.

  18. Erica in NY September 18th, 2010 at 10:15 pm

I really hope that the Angels win tonight.

I have a great picture to commemorate #14

  19. Nick in SF September 18th, 2010 at 10:15 pm

I don’t have a particular CC celebration, although I did pass within 5 miles of his hometown of Vallejo this afteroon.

I did have an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet in Reno this morning, does that count as a pre-celebration?

  20. m September 18th, 2010 at 10:16 pm

An IBB would’ve been nice. Especially at 3-0.

  21. SAS September 18th, 2010 at 10:16 pm

    OK.

    Great work CC.

Here’s part one of your 20th win tribute.

You deserve the best, and I want to honor your accomplishment te best way I can.

  27. Betsy September 18th, 2010 at 10:20 pm

SAS, I’m glad CC didn’t have to wait like Mussina did, lol

  28. tyanksfan36 September 18th, 2010 at 10:20 pm

Hope they saved some runs and timely hitting for Andy tomorrow.

  29. UnKnown September 18th, 2010 at 10:20 pm

Beautifully played by Mike. Now ibb this monster. Loving it.

  30. GreenBeret7 September 18th, 2010 at 10:21 pm

Trenton lost, 5-2. Altoona is the Eastern League champs. Now, it’ll probably be a couple of days before finding out if Banuelos is hurt or not after getting hit by a line drive in the back of his left shoulder.

Here’s the final box score. Tampa Yanks won their league title. Trenton and scranton finish as runner ups in their leagues.

Never watched DTV MLB Game Mix before. VERY cool.

Still not happy thaat I don’t have the Rays on Extra Innings. Don’t understand it unless the stations that cover those games are covering some other sport – or something.

  34. Bo knows September 18th, 2010 at 10:23 pm

Molina just picked off Kalish at 1B for the second out in the ninth.

  35. blake September 18th, 2010 at 10:24 pm

a championship and two runner ups is a pretty darn good year down on the farm. Hope Banuelos is OK? Will Brackman be called up now?

  50. tyanksfan36 September 18th, 2010 at 10:26 pm

Don’t know what channel is playing the Rays game. Its not on any regular channel in Tampa which is odd.

Brandon Wood is hitting .159…you’d think he could at least throw the ball to first.

  59. MTU September 18th, 2010 at 10:27 pm

    SAS-

That’s just part 1. I’ll post part 2 in the morning and repost part 1.

I will send you part 1 directly to your e-mail tomorrow. :)

    SAS-

    My pleasure.

Nothing but the best for our CC. Our Cy Young, 20 game winning Ace. :)

  72. YankFanCA September 18th, 2010 at 10:36 pm

Thank Fernando Rodney. 2 outs, nobody on in the ninth and he gives up 3 consecutive hits. Thanks for nothing, meathead.

  73. Yogi Mantle September 18th, 2010 at 10:43 pm

Rodney is trying to break a record for most blown saves or something. Cut the guy some slack.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

  74. West Coast Yankee Fan September 18th, 2010 at 10:43 pm

Great win for the boys in gray and navy! Congrats CC. Nite all.

  75. MTU September 18th, 2010 at 10:53 pm

That was one the best games we’ve played in quite some time.

It’s a relief to know we can still score runs in bunches and get contributions from multiple players.

We should have our full-strength lineup tomorrow for Andy. Let’s give the O’s the broom. :)

  76. MTU September 18th, 2010 at 10:58 pm

    Night everyone.

See you all in the Morning. :)

  77. Eroc September 18th, 2010 at 11:07 pm

Magic number to clinch a playoff birth is 7

  78. EA September 18th, 2010 at 11:18 pm

If things stay on schedule, CC has 2 starts left – Thursday vs. Tampa and the following Tuesday against Toronto.

The final Sunday of the yr against Boston is technically his turn (but there is an off-day before that series, so unless they skip someone, it won’t be CC’s turn). They’ll probably give him an inning in that final game to keep him fresh, but he should have a nice break before the playoff start. Over a week.

  79. Yank 97 September 18th, 2010 at 11:24 pm

SF Giants shooting themselves in the foot… a home series vs. Milwaukee was supposed to be a layup…
