    Pretty even…should be fun.

  2. ConcernedCitizen September 20th, 2010 at 11:46 am

I thought MLB Network was covering tonight’s and Tuesday’s game too? I know they’re also covering the Phillies/Braves game, so I’ll probably get screwed, but some markets will see the Yanks play.

  3. blake September 20th, 2010 at 11:49 am

Game 1 is probably the worst match up for the Yanks on paper so winning tonight would be a big plus for the rest of the series.

  4. jacksquat September 20th, 2010 at 11:50 am

My cable tv guide says they’re showing the Phillies/Braves over Yanks/Rays. :(

    (I live in the southwest)

  5. YankeeBlue222 September 20th, 2010 at 11:50 am

I have too many things to watch tonight!

Yanks, Niners, Two and a Half Men…AAAAH!

  6. blake September 20th, 2010 at 11:53 am

The Braves will probably be on three different channels where I live…which is why I hate when they do that regional coverage stuff….its usually on in that region anyway for a lot of people.

  7. Cashman needs to go September 20th, 2010 at 11:55 am

Has anyone seen what a pretty good year Mr. 209 himself (Dallas Braden) has had? Wouldn’t mind having him as the #5 starter if Andy decides to retire (left handed to boot) – he and AROD can then become buddies.

  8. ConcernedCitizen September 20th, 2010 at 12:02 pm

My TV guide: “Atlanta Braves at Philadelphia Phillies or Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees.”

I’m assuming the fact that the Rays @ Yanks game appears second means its only appearing in areas where the Braves game is blacked out. But I can still hope.

  9. Yogi Mantle September 20th, 2010 at 12:08 pm

I think Girardi will have a short leash on Nova given what happened in his last outing. The kid can be effective, but when he gets to around the 5th inning, if he starts giving up hits its time to pull him, even if he already has two outs.

That is what makes yesterday’s extended game so tough, it burned some holes in the bullpen, not terribly, but I bet Robertson isn’t available today.

The plus is there should be enough arms and some who can give decent length that can come in and cover the rest of the game.

It would be nice if Tampa’s pitchers give up early leads that the Yanks can build on. This is the big series. The RS may become bigger if the Yankees don’t take care of “bidness” in this series.

The Yankees need a couple of games where they lead by a decent amount. These close games cause us fans too much stress. lol.

  10. -Matt- September 20th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Yankees can probably handle game 1

If Nova gets that fifth inning down, he’s set and the Yankees walk all over Garza

  11. blake September 20th, 2010 at 12:10 pm

anybody know if Brackman will be up at some point this season?

    ——–

If he’s not there today, I think that will answer the question.

  13. blake September 20th, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Something to keep track of with the Rays….if Garza doesn’t pitch well then they aren’t nearly as scary in a playoff series. He’s a big key for them having success this October.

  14. blake September 20th, 2010 at 12:16 pm

    CC,

Any reason why they wouldn’t bring him up? He’s already on the 40 man right….why not?

  15. UnKnown September 20th, 2010 at 12:16 pm

I hope the stadium is really rocking tonight. For some reason it can be quiet and not nearly as opposing as the old place was. Hopefully the fans can loosen up the screws on the joint tonight.

  16. Mike_Boston September 20th, 2010 at 12:17 pm

Blake, it makes sense if they call him up since he’s on the 40 man, has pitched out of the pen and has been on fire the last month or so.

  17. blake September 20th, 2010 at 12:20 pm

    Mike,

When you’re playing good teams for 10 straight days then to me you get every quality arm you can available…plus it would be good experience for him to hang out with CC, Andy, Mo…etc.

  18. Brian September 20th, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Here in AZ it’s showing on MLB that the Braves game is going to be on.

  19. CountryClub September 20th, 2010 at 12:27 pm

    Blake,

I don’t see the harm in calling him up, even if they only use him in garbage time. But maybe they’re happy with how he’s pitched and they just want to shut him down.

  20. SAS September 20th, 2010 at 12:28 pm

    Brian,

I will be in AZ starting Friday. They will always put on a NL game over the Yankees…makes me crazy.

  21. blake September 20th, 2010 at 12:29 pm

    CC,

That’s possible..to me even if you only planned to use him in emergency situations it would be good experience for him to see a pennant race etc….we’ll see soon.

  22. Mike_Boston September 20th, 2010 at 12:38 pm

Seems like a no brainer to get the guy some pennant race experience, especially with the home stand, bringing a rookie into a game on the road’s a different animal.

  23. Brian September 20th, 2010 at 12:49 pm

    SAS,

What was nuts was how they handled the recent Texas/Yankees series for television here. They were in Texas, which is pretty close to AZ, yet we saw Twins vs White Sox.

  24. Don Vito A. Bellamo September 20th, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Enough of the moral victories and the silver linings ! We have 13 games left and ALL of them are huge. Put a “W” on the board tonight and then look to repeat that OVER and OVER. Anyone that things having HFA for any of our AL series is not important, does not recognize one of this team’s obvious weaknesses. Let’s just GET IT DONE ! Play today, WIN today ! ;-)

  25. Don Vito A. Bellamo September 20th, 2010 at 12:55 pm

  26. Doreen September 20th, 2010 at 12:55 pm

    Don Vito –

I can wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence; the rest will take care of itself from there. :)

I think throwing an inexperienced kid like Brackman into one of these games would be the wrong move and I don’t think there’s a chance that Girardi would do it.

    —————–

I don’t think anybody disagrees with you. We were just wondering if he would get called up since he’s already on the 40 man. Chances are he’d get to pitch in a couple of blowouts before the yr was over. That said, I don’t care if they call him up or not. Just something to talk about I guess.

  29. SJ44 September 20th, 2010 at 1:02 pm

I do think though, it’s a good idea for a guy like Brackman to be around the team at this time of year.

That’s invaluable experience, IMO, even if he never pitches an inning.

  30. SAS September 20th, 2010 at 1:03 pm

    Brian,

Where are you in AZ, if you don’t mind my asking?

  31. sunny615 September 20th, 2010 at 1:10 pm

    Game 1: Matt Garza (14-8, 3.88 ERA) v Ivan Nova (1-0, 4.30 ERA)
Garza: Garza got roughed up in his last outing vs. the Yankees, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and failed to finish the fifth inning for the second straight outing. He has a 12.00 ERA in his last two starts after going 4-0 with a 0.99 in four starts.

Nova: Handed a 6-0 lead, Nova couldn?t hold it for the Yankees on Tuesday in Tampa, exiting with two outs in the Rays? seven-run fifth. The rookie had the worst start of his brief career, giving up six runs on six hits with three walks in 4 2/3 innings.

    Game 2: James Shields (13-12, 4.86 ERA) v Phil Hughes (16-8, 4.31 ERA)
Shields: Shields gave the Rays a quality start Wednesday night against the Yankees when he allowed one run on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings, but he came away with a no-decision. Shields is 1-0 with a 4.05 ERA in two starts at Yankee Stadium this season.

Hughes: Sporting a fresh black eye, Burnett limited the Orioles to three runs on six hits in seven innings on Friday, ending up with a no-decision. It was the fourth straight decent outing for the right-hander, who has a 4.50 ERA in September.

    Game 3: Wade Davis (12-9, 4.19 ERA) v AJ Burnett (10-13, 5.08 ERA)
Davis: Davis allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out eight in six innings against the Angels on Friday, but got a no-decision. Currently he is riding a seven-game winning streak and is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA against the Yankees this season.

Burnett: Sporting a fresh black eye, Burnett limited the Orioles to three runs on six hits in seven innings on Friday, ending up with a no-decision. It was the fourth straight decent outing for the right-hander, who has a 4.50 ERA in September.

    Game 4: David Price (17-6, 2.79 ERA) v CC Sabathia (20-6, 3.05 ERA)
Price: Price brought his A game in his last start Saturday night against the Angels, when he allowed just four hits in seven innings. Unfortunately for Price, one of the hits was a three-run homer by Juan Rivera that led to his receiving a no-decision.

CC: Is awesome (no comments from Yankees.com)

From my POV, a lot of these games are all up in the air. It depends a lot on whether or not the pitchers bring their best? AJ, Phil, and Nova?

Garza is wishy washy (like our AJ), so they?re no real way to call it. My guess, (assuming Girardi puts the A lineup in everyday), is the Yanks take 3 of 4. If he doesn?t and plays putz?s like Curtis and Kearns, I?m guessing the Yanks walk away in second place.

  32. SteveB September 20th, 2010 at 1:12 pm

Derek Jeter has always pointed to his time with the 1995 Yankees as a great learning experience for him.

  33. I Like Inge September 20th, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Rays – Yankees is a man to man look ‘em in the eye matchup. Kind of like this match-up right here.

  34. blake September 20th, 2010 at 1:18 pm

    SJ,

That was kinda my feeling as well..let the kid see what the show and a playoff race with the Yankees is all about…even if he never threw an inning it could be beneficial.

  35. Andrew September 20th, 2010 at 1:19 pm

They could add Brackman to the roster and let him hang out for sure. Only chance I could see him going into a game would be if they were playing a 100% meaningless game (meaning the wild card, division and home field advantage had all been decided). So maybe in the last series in Fenway. That would be an interesting place to make your ML debut at least.

  36. Brian September 20th, 2010 at 1:20 pm

    SAS,

    I’m in Scottsdale.

  37. Brian September 20th, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Letting Brackman hand out with the team w/b good. Jesus also. They’ve done it in the past but not this year.

As for USING him, they haven’t even used Ring yet, have they, and there was talk about how he might actually be in line for the post season as a second lefty.

    I hate Dwayne Staats!

  45. Betsy September 20th, 2010 at 1:51 pm

I don’t get that picture in the previous thread; who are those people?

Joe is completely inconsistent. He’ll rest Alex – because heaven knows it’s not that important to win the division – but he’ll push Mo 2 innings and when he doesn’t, he still doesn’t give him days off. How does that make sense? Joe can’t handle the pressures of a pennant race, it seems, so to me – he’s not the man for the job.

AS to the offense, they are terribly inconsistent whether they are on the road or at home. They still have a good road record – being on the road doesn’t scare me. Their offense just isn’t all that great. Sometimes within a game they are extremely inconsisent; they’ll hit for a few innings and then shut down. I’m not that confident in them because I don’t think they are really well-equipped to deal with close games. For me, it’s a wait and see thing for them in the playoffs. If they win, I wouldn’t be shocked; if they don’t, I wouldn’t be shocked. I don’t think the Yankees have an edge over any team – I think the AL teams are all pretty close to one another.

  46. Betsy September 20th, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Tonight should be interesting. I don’t necessarily think this means there is a thaw between Torre and the Yankees; I think Joe probably realizes that he would have looked bad had he not appeared and the Yankees realized they would look bad if they didn’t invite him.

  47. pat September 20th, 2010 at 1:56 pm

If you’re going to the game tonight, give yourself some extra time to get there.

I just heard there was a fire under the 138th Bridge and Metro North service is dead ending at Yankee Stadium instead of GCT so the ripple effect may be felt in the rest of the area.

“but he’ll push Mo 2 innings and when he doesn’t, he still doesn’t give him days off. How does that make sense?”

Girardi is taking an unjust beating on the Rivera thing. He had 5 days off before that 2 inning outing. That represented the 3rd time he had at least 5 consecutive days off in a month (8/12-8/16, 8/22-8/27, and 9/5-9/9). He’s been treated with kid gloves all year, as he should be. But using him as he did in Texas really should have been no problem given the significant rest he’s been getting the 2nd half of the season.

Girardi has done some strange things of late for sure, but the way he used Rivera was not one of them, IMO.

  53. Joekuh September 20th, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Thursday night’s matchup is a pitching dream. Can’t WAIT to see it. Hopefully its as good as the last time they matched up.
