If this game isn’t on MLBNetwork, I’m going to scream. Maybe it’ll be the free MLB.tv game of the day…

now THIS is a lineup that should MASH at Home…..8-3 Yankees !!! Let’s GETTUR DUHN !!! :-)

Anyone else have this problem? I’ve used the link on this site to get to mlbtraderumors.com for years. Today I get a warning from Google Safe Browsing that that site is unsafe because of malicious software being on it.

I ran a scan on my pc and it’s clean, which makes sense since I can’t get to the trade rumors site anymore, but I wonder what happened to that site. It’s fun to read.

According to their schedule, MLB Network carrying both the Braves/Phillies and Yanks/Rays, with blackout restrictions applicable. Guess what game you get depends on where you live.

Guess Girardi didn’t learn last time that starting Cervelli ahead of Posada can have DIRE consequences. Jorge needs to be starting 4/5 of the time

  6. Pauldanand September 20th, 2010 at 3:48 pm

    yep.. where’s Jorge??
No time for the subs to be in the game…
we need the A team in the line up…

MLBTR had some problems a few hours back. Seems to be OK now though.

  8. blake September 20th, 2010 at 3:48 pm

Looks good…maybe the entire lineup including Posada will be in there tomorrow…I don’t know if we’ve seen that since Berkman has been here….

Winning this first one would be a big boost because I like the pitching matchups the rest of the series.

  9. Wave Your Hat September 20th, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Jorge doesn’t start today; I won’t be surprised if he sits Wednesday as well. That would be 2 out of 4 games in a fairly important series.

    I agree with this.

Burnett pitches wednesday so chances are good that posada wouldn’t start that game regardless – because , you know, burnett pitches SOOOO much better with cervy behind the plate..(rollseyes)

GF – I’ve long felt that way, about the amphetamines. I think that’s what’s driving the change in baseball away from power hitters to more of a speed, D, and athleticism game (along the lines of what CB mentioned above). Also why players in their mid-30s tend to decline more than they did maybe 5-10 years ago.

    ———–

    Totally agree, Joe.

You could see it coming too when the ban was first implemented. It’s a story that didn’t get a lot of headlines at the time but it’s impact on the game was obviously going to be enormous.

“Greenies” were in baseball for 100 years. I would tend to argue that most everybody used them. And why not? They weren’t illegal and it gave their bodies a little extra boost during a long season.

    Rolling eyes with you.

I do wonder whether Posada catches the last couple Burnett starts in anticipation of having to do it in the playoffs, where the “A” lineup should be going everyday.

  20. CB September 20th, 2010 at 4:01 pm

I’m going to be optimistic here and hope that Posada sitting today means that he will catch AJ on Wednesday.

Cervelli cannot play in the post season unless there’s an emergency. I’ve been waiting for Girardi to pair AJ and Jorge back together again to prepare for the post season.

Let’s hope Wednesday it is. Girardi cannot be oblivious to the massive impact Posada makes on a line up that’s been struggling and to how awful Cervelli has been both offensively and defensively.

  21. Captain Clutch September 20th, 2010 at 4:06 pm

If Posada wasn’t going to play yesterday and today then why didn’t he sit yesterday so he would be ready to play tonight? They sat Tex and Arod yesterday why not sit Posada also. I hope Girardi gets his brain back really quicky because they need it. It woul be nice if Posada caught AJ very soon since there is no way you can have Cervelli catching in the play offs but I think we saw last year that Posada will sit for Cervelli which makes no sense.

  22. Patrick September 20th, 2010 at 4:07 pm

I’m going to be optimistic here and hope that Posada sitting today means that he will catch AJ on Wednesday.

If Girardi starts Molina in the world series he won’t hesitate to start Cervelli :(

I love the optimism but Girardi is a bit goofy when it comes to this subject. Maybe the rumors are true and Burnett really does have a serious problem with Posada.

  23. SJ44 September 20th, 2010 at 4:07 pm

Thats like the captain of the Titantic turning to his 1st mate (not sure if that is the second guy in charge, i got all my navy knowledge from Gilligan’s Island) and saying “I wonder if it would have been much worse if we had turned left and avoided that iceburg?

i.e. – not blaming cervelli for aj’s issues but i don’t think it could be any worse than it already is – posada on offense though is something totally different…

  25. Al in Houston September 20th, 2010 at 4:09 pm

Finally, right field looks much better. Is Posada not catching because of Nova on the hill?

Hint to Joe G in playoffs—-NEVER allow Berkman to bat Right Handed

  26. CBean September 20th, 2010 at 4:09 pm

I’m not happy about Jorgie not being in it either but I’m not actually surprised if i think about it. He already had Jorgie starting a day game after a night game and that went into extras. He’s going to start at least 2 games this series and Jorgie is 39 years old and we need him healthy for the playoffs.

  27. Wave Your Hat September 20th, 2010 at 4:10 pm

It possibly makes sense for Cervelli to catch AJ instead of Posada (I don’t believe it but there is a logical possibility that it makes sense).

What does not make sense is to start AJ in the playoffs if Cervelli must catch him. If that’s the case, then starting Nova or Moseley in the post-season instead of AJ is the better strategy.

  28. Jerkface September 20th, 2010 at 4:10 pm

I think Cervelli is going to catch AJ in the post-season.

hopefully in the 4th game of the ALCS.

Cervelli will catch AJ in the playoffs. He’s not going to change it up. But…I think he should DH Posada when he does. Posada should not have days off in the playoffs.

    CB -

That’s what I was thinking. AJ made a comment the other night about being happy to be pitching to Jorge (Jorge came in to catch later in the game). So, perhaps Joe’s arranging things so that Jorge & AJ will have a couple of games to get in sync before the playoffs. Hope so, anyway.

Thanks. And I don’t think it’s a disease, I think it’s smart. Over the weekend I made a promise to myself to take more control of some of the things in my life. Some important, some less so. DVR management is something I want to start implementing. Let’s face it, some nights, there’s nothing on. Why not arrange the tv schedule to suit me???

    CB -

Also, thanks for the synopsis of Cash’s comments. He really had a lot to say this time around, and I like hearing how the organization feels about its players. I think it’s safe to say that unless something “out there” comes up, Gardy is here to stay. I like that the guys they Yankees are bringing into the organization are hard workers who are not satisfied with the way things are and want to be better.

  33. JoeyA September 20th, 2010 at 4:13 pm

    To everyone using MLBTR-
It has downloaded a virus on my computer which pops up as some sort of virus protection software.

This is NOT a virus protection program. It is a virus. If you select to clear viruses or download the software, you’re compiuter becomes infected.

This just happened to my computer today. I guess someone hacked into MLBTR.

    Just a forewarning.

  34. Wave Your Hat September 20th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

“I think he should DH Posada when he does. Posada should not have days off in the playoffs.”

If the DH position was a black hole then that would make sense. But Posada vs Thames/Berkman just isn’t that much of a difference.

  35. YES September 20th, 2010 at 4:14 pm

I’m also surprised that Posada isn’t playing today.

I could see him not playing on Wednesday. Not because Burnett has earned the right to have a personal catcher – But with the amount of pitches AJ bounces, it really puts a beating on Posada behind the plate.

  36. SJ44 September 20th, 2010 at 4:18 pm

If Posada was going to catch AJ in the post-season, he would be catching him now.

AJ is tough enough to catch.

To ask any catcher, let alone a nearly 40 year old catcher, to catch a guy as tough to catch in AJ starting in the post-season?

That would be the dumbest roster move in a month’s worth of dumb roster moves Girardi could make at this point.

  37. CB September 20th, 2010 at 4:20 pm

“I think Cervelli is going to catch AJ in the post-season.”

I truly hope this doesn’t happen. I would be very painful to watch happen.

If AJ has to have his own personal caddy then he shouldn’t be throwing in the post season. You can’t weaken the offense for a player who himself has performed so poorly.

The catcher does not cause AJ to throw differently. It’s just a ridiculous idea for which there is ample evidence over the past 10 years to prove erroneous.

  38. Vineyard Yankee September 20th, 2010 at 4:20 pm

Whats the matter with Posada now ? A veteran, switch hitting catcher in a big series for 1st Place. Is it a ‘REST’ day or does he have an ingrown hair ?

DVR management is something I want to start implementing. Let?s face it, some nights, there?s nothing on. Why not arrange the tv schedule to suit me???
    *************

    Thats exactly it!!!

DVR gives you control over what to watch. The only thing on TV I ever watch “Live” is the Yankees. Other than that, watching Live tv is poor time management.

Tonight at 8pm, I have HIMYM and Chuck on at the same time.
HIMYM is a 30 minute show. (For each 30 minutes of air time there are approx 8 minutes of commercials). I will start watching this show at 8:08. Then I can fast forward throw every commerical and finish at 8:30 in “real time”. At which point, I can start watching Chuck (in progress) from the beginning. Chuck will have about 16 minutes worth of commericals. I’ll be done with Chuck by 9:20 and can catch the last 3 innings of the Yankee game, having just watched all of the shows I wanted.

  42. Patrick September 20th, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Starting Cervelli in any postseason game is a pretty significant managerial mistake.

  43. SJ44 September 20th, 2010 at 4:24 pm

    CB,

I agree but, if he did it with Molina last year, when Jorge, and AJ for that matter, were having better seasons, he will do it again this season.

I don’t get it and I don’t know a lot of people in and around baseball who feels AJ Burnett warrants a personal catcher.

Unfortunately though, regardless of results, Girardi does and that’s a problem.

  44. Patrick September 20th, 2010 at 4:25 pm

    Erica,

I am watching HIMYM and Chuck as well :)

I think I’m going to check out The Event as well, looks cool.

    Fixed!

Patrick, let me know when you’ve taken your greenies, then we can discuss getting me some green.

  46. CountryClub September 20th, 2010 at 4:28 pm

SJ is correct. Cervelli will catch AJ in the playoffs. Posad will DH though. So you’ll be swapping Berkman or Thames for Cervelli.

  47. SJ44 September 20th, 2010 at 4:31 pm

    Maine,

There is a lot of belief in the theory that trauma can cause the yips.

Frankly, I’m surprised Salty has not dealt with it with a sports psychologist.

One thing about catchers with the yips……..

It doesn’t go away being in denial and just about every catcher who has had it the last 10 years has traced it to some kind of trauma. Specifically, a home plate collision.

  48. Doreen September 20th, 2010 at 4:32 pm

I think this year the set-up between AJ/Cervelli/Jorge wasn’t so much a personal catcher for AJ as Posada requiring more rest; Cervelli starting out hitting decently, and then the establishment of a rest routine. I know effectively it’s the same thing, but from a different perspective. Scheduled rest for Jorge that happens to fall when AJ pitches, rather than AJ getting a personal catcher.

  49. CB September 20th, 2010 at 4:34 pm

“I agree but, if he did it with Molina last year, when Jorge, and AJ for that matter, were having better seasons, he will do it again this season.”

I understand there’s past history but I really hope that he learns and takes this team in it’s own particularity.

This team doesn’t hit like last year’s team does. In addition, Cervelli doeesn’t even give you the defensive benefit that Molina did. The situations and the needs of the team are very different.

But unless Jorge catches AJ at least a couple of time before the end of the season then it’s going to be Cervelli with AJ. What a tandem.

  50. Vineyard Yankee September 20th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

It will be interesting to see the reception that Joe Torre and ‘Donny Baseball’ get tonite before the ceremony for the Boss.

Hopefully both will get a rousing ovation. Apparently Lonn Trost called and invited both of them to the ceremony. With the Dodgers at home this week, a long trip to and from to honor the Boss.

As I wrote awhile back, and was lambasted for it, Posada is a part-time catcher….

  53. MiketheGardnerfan September 20th, 2010 at 4:50 pm

Why isn’t Gardner leading off against a righty? Isn’t he the one who had a great at-bat yesterday that eventually led to a run?

  54. tyanksfan36 September 20th, 2010 at 5:02 pm

Cervelli catches Nova and Burnett. He has caught Burnett all season and Nova since he came up.
