Let’s chat this afternoon

Posted by: Chad Jennings - Posted in Misc on Sep 30, 2010 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

I’m getting better at this traveling thing.

My flight out of Toronto was cancelled this morning. Not delayed. Cancelled. I was at the airport a little before 7 a.m., and the next American Airlines flight to New York left at 1:25 p.m. Not a good situation.

The veteran move? Convincing American Airlines to rebook me on an Air Canada flight that left at 9:15. All’s well that ends well and I’m sitting in my apartment with enough time to do some laundry, write some off day stories and finally decide whether I’m driving to Boston tonight or in the morning.

Meanwhile, the one thing less predictable than flying seems to be raising children.

Sam has a little girl at home, and because he’s tending to some fatherly responsibilities — raising, nurturing, that sort of thing — we’re pushing today’s chat back to 1:30. It’s a half hour delay. Not cancelled. Just delayed.

Wish I could join. I’d have a ton of questions regarding the state of the rotation and the lineup production on the road.

Chad, sounds like you’ve had quite the morning. LOL

royce ring should be on post season roster and mosely. no to vazquez, gaudin, and mitre…

mosely is the real long man not burnett and ring gives them a lefty in moderate to low stress situations early in the game to save logan for a big spot. I would put Nova on instead of Burnett but that will not happen. Nove over Mosely is a option but Mosely is more familiar with the pen and older with more experience….

gaudin and mitre serve no purpose and vazquez is toast. and if any are on the alds roster girardi is a fool……….

the only reason burnett is on the roster is because he has 3 years left on his deal and in case a starter gets hurt but if that occurs the yanks are done.

look at what the yanks 4th and 5th starters burnett and vazquez have done this year. it is staggering how bad. it is a miracle the yanks could win 94+ games when those schlubs pitched to a 5.23 era in 55 starts….they gave up 56 homers, hit 24 batters, and the great numbers go on and on.

so banuelos, betances, brackman are potential but since they are aways away the yanks had to pitch these drecks over and over……

Great article on Robbie. Cano for MVP!!!!!! :)

BryanHoch Cano at the heart of Yankees’ repeat bid

  8. Wave Your Hat September 30th, 2010 at 12:27 pm

I don’t really see the point of putting Ring on the roster, because Joe won’t use him.

  9. comet September 30th, 2010 at 12:29 pm

Anyone know what’s happened to GB7? We just get Erin back and now GB is gone. Tough times for the blog.

I just read that article, it was good. I hope Cano has a good game or 2 before the season ends to get his BA up a little higher maybe some more homers and rbi. Though I think he will sit at least one day. When do they announce MVP?

  11. Erin September 30th, 2010 at 12:31 pm

comet-he probably saw that I was back and ran away screaming. ;)

Regarding Andy’s back-I had the feeling that it could have been bothering him at least a little because he said his cutter hasn’t come back yet. Last year, when he missed a little time with a back issue his cutter disappeared as well; when the back started feeling better he was able to get through the cutter and finish it and pitched great the rest of the season and all of this season.

Andy is a true gamer, I doubt that the back will be an issue going forward and he’ll figure out a way to pitch well in the postseason, cutter or no…

tyanks-I’m not sure when MVP is announced.

I agree that Cano will probably sit one game in Boston. I’m hoping it’s Saturday, since I’ll be out all afternoon and won’t be able to watch the game anyway. ;)

You don’t want to be driving TONIGHT (after 6 or 7 PM) between NYC and Boston. CT is going to be FLOODED with rain tonight, if the weather predictions are accurate. You don’t want to be driving in that.

Supposed to start clearing up around 11 AM tomorrow…probably be manageable by 9 or 10 AM. Honestly, I’d leave late this afternoon (4 PM or so) and avoid the traffic areas (New Haven, Hartford, Springfield) with judicious use of your GPS. You should be able to stay ahead of the worst of the water.

I was actually thinking of Curtis Pride a few days ago, so I actually got a big chuckle out of Michael Kay mentioning Pride yesterday, saying that Pride looked like Golson. Or was it Kenny Singleton? Anyhow, Pride looks exactly like Golson – facial-wise. An excellent call by Kenny or Kay!

Nassau County has the potential for 4-6 inches of rain….

I’m old enough to remember the original version of the song but still young enough to prefer the JayZ remix of it.

  19. stuart a September 30th, 2010 at 12:41 pm

logan is basically a lefty specialist and you use him in the 6th inning and thome coming up in the 7th you may be screwed.

use ring this weekend and i say put him on postseason roster. having gaudin or mitre or vazquez loss there spot is going to hurt in what way?

the logic don’t put him on girardi wil not use him is fairly idiotic….

ring has a 60% chance of doing what he is suppose to. burnett, vazquez, gaudin, and mitre have a 30% chance of getting good results……….

Tony Curtis was a great actor. Sweet Smell of Success, Some Like it Hot, The Boston Strangler, The Defiant Ones…..and of course Spartacus with Kirk Douglas. A shame he did not win an Oscar.

Plus he says he had an affair with Marilyn Monroe. That must count for something. :)

Get ready for this to be the norm:

The Boston Globe says it will be creating a new, paid subscription Web site while also keeping its current site,, free to users. will still include local news and classified advertising, but access to full stories and other content will be limited.

The newspaper announced its two-pronged digital strategy on Thursday. The Globe, which is owned by the New York Times Co., survived a financial crisis last year and has been examining ways to increase revenue from its online content.

The new subscription Web site,, will be launched in the second half of next year and will include all news and feature stories published in the daily and Sunday editions of the newspaper.

pat – What is the original version of the song? Please enlighten me – Alphaville, Youth Group, or something else?

And I too like the Jay Z remix of it :)

  23. m September 30th, 2010 at 12:46 pm

That was a great story. I also like the story of the guy that replaced Steve Perry.

Doobie Bros are “crib” music to me. Heard too much when I was young so I’m not a McDonald fan.

You are so lucky to be young and single. Sigh…

  24. pat September 30th, 2010 at 12:56 pm

The Alphaville version from the 80′s is what I thought was the original. I don’t know if there was an earlier version by someone else.

  25. Don Vito A. Bellamo September 30th, 2010 at 1:10 pm

Jerkface, say the Yankees lose all 3 games to Boston. ( not that I think that will happen NOR do I want that to happen )….Show me the REAMS of Data that say that a team that goes 8-18 in their last 26 games, including a 4 game losing streak….is NO worse off than a team that goes 11-15 in their last 26 games on the heels of a 3 game winning streak that results in them having the best record in the AL and not only HFA for the first round of the playoffs, but also can look forward to HFA in the 2nd round, should they get there…..I’ll be waiting here for all those REAMS, Jerkface ! Do I need to clear a big spot in the garage ?

  26. Bx is Burning September 30th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

Jay-Z works off of Dylan’s “Forever Young,” a completely different track than the Alphaville song of the same name.

  27. West Coast Yankee Fan September 30th, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Regarding Cano MVP comments. I would love Cano to win it; as I would love CC to win the Cy Young. I just don’t think “objectively” that either is going to happen. Just an opinion.

  28. tyanksfan36 September 30th, 2010 at 1:26 pm

I’m hoping Girardi sits guys on sunday when I can’t watch the game. That will probably also be the day that Brackman pitches but since ill be in the presence of another minor league pitcher I guess ill just have to accept it.

  29. CR9 September 30th, 2010 at 1:27 pm

    Thanks pat!

Bx: Im not sure about that. iirc, Jay z has similar lyrics/acoustics to either the alphaville or youth group.

  30. pat September 30th, 2010 at 1:29 pm

    Bx is burning

JayZ uses the Alphaville song not the Dylan song.

  31. tyanksfan36 September 30th, 2010 at 1:30 pm

    West coast

I don’t think cano will win mvp or that cc win win the cy young but if each team picked their own mvp and cy young winners, those two would definitely make it. CC has the most wins but his ERA is too high and Cano has been the Yankees MVP but he has lower numbers than Hamilton who will more than likely win it.

  32. upstate kate September 30th, 2010 at 1:33 pm

of course as a Yankee fan, I think Robbie should win MVP and CC the Cy Young. I think they should both get real consideration.
CC has been the only reliable pitcher for the Yankees since the ASB. He pitches under a lot of pressure (not discounting the pressure Felix faces due to lack of run support). He has won 21 games, including the post season clinching game.
Robbie has simply had a great season. When Alex was hurt, he was thrust into the clean up position and thrived there. He is outstanding defensively as well. At the very least, he should get the gold glove and silver slugger.

  33. Bx is Burning September 30th, 2010 at 1:36 pm

    My bad, CR.
I was mixing up “Young Forever” (which is based on the Alphaville tune), with the ‘mash-up’ of Dylan’s song used on some TV ad recently (Pepsi, I think).

  34. Bx is Burning September 30th, 2010 at 1:37 pm

    Yr right, Pat.
Feeling my age at the moment…

  35. West Coast Yankee Fan September 30th, 2010 at 1:58 pm

No question in my mind that Cano and CC are the Yankees MVP’s this year. If I was voting and being totally objective, I would have to go Felix and Hamilton.
