? With this payroll and talent, anyone can win.?
How many WS did we win in the last decade?
Is it easider said than done.
This whole argument of highest payroll, so we must/will win irrespective of the manager is misguided.
Jeter makes 22 mil, is he the best short stop? You porobably can save 12 mil by getting someone give the same production. It is not a knock on Jeter. That is how the sytem works. When you have to retain your best players you have to pay. See what is going to happen to rays next year.
This year the talent on both teams is near equal but thier payroll is low as thier players were not in the league as long as Yankee players have been. We are able to keep our players, they are not able to. That does not mean our players have suddenly become better. Some other rising team will take Ray?s spot.
Begin lineup complaining….
Begin bashing Girardi because you know more about the team than he does…
It is still a pretty good lineup.
Yet another game where Girardi is sending mixed massages. Why does Cano need to DH? He’s 26 years old!!
And Thames in LF? We all know how that is going to turn out.
So he plays the regulars, then he decides to play a liability in left and automatic out Pena at 2nd. How does that make sense?
Looks like a good line-up to me. Hope Moseley can come up big.
Phenom, it has nothing with knowing the team better or not. It’s Girardi’s obsessive need to overmanage that I have a problem with.
LGY
I don?t think that I?m always right. But Girardi has made plenty mistakes and calling him out on it doesn?t mean that I think I?m always right. The fact is that he continues to overmanage and make the same mistakes again and again and he refuses to learn from it.

I would like to see this happen today.
Win the game. Go into the plaoffs with a positive feeling.
Rest regulars after sixth inning. Dvision win is not that important for me. For many others it is important, I have no issue with it.
I want Cano to have a HR.
That will give him 100+ RBIs, 100+ runs, 200 hits, 30 HRs, 40+ doubles.
Add his great defense, that should be good enough to win the MVP.
If that HR results in winning the division that would be magical.
Not complaining; it’s a great lineup.
What I do think is kind of funny is how, because of all the resting he did all throughout the month of September, here on the last day it’s basically the “A” lineup, behind a “C” pitcher, to try for the division. Which bullpen will it be today, also?
Now, he might well pull guys after an at bat or two, but if this lineup could have been used some more last month, today could have been SWB’s best behind Brackman with nothing on the line, and the regulars could have sat and enjoyed watching the game.
From last thread -
I happen to think Leyland and Maddon are both pretty good managers. Leyland may indeed looking at retirement. Maddon I give credit for thinking outside the proverbial box.
As far as the Yanks minor league system not yielding IFs and OFs who contributed this season – I can distinctly remember Kevin Russo, Colin Curtis, and Nunez each winning a game with a late hit. Beyond that, Cash has specifically devoted the draft and IFA signings to building up pitching and catching strength. I don’t think I need to name the players who have been developed at those positions.
Stump’s constant overmanaging all year put us in this position, as far as winning the division. We should have this wrapped up weeks ago.
I bet you that Girardi wil try to pitch Burnett is some situation because he is a “veteran” despite the fact that he is a garbage pitcher who doesn’t deserve to be on the postseason roster.
Girardi continues to be hard on guys like Robertson if they mess up once but with the veterans and Joba he sits there and does nothing until they cost the Yankees several games.
yanks 27 – congratulations on being the first line-up complaint in the thread. You, sir, are a winner.
The lineup isn’t the problem today. It’s the Yankee starter today and the absence of a bullpen for today’s game.
Not a pretty way to finish the season and head into the playoffs. IMO, it’s a little like the end of Spring Training in reverse. The players are banged up and exhausted at this point of the season instead of playing into shape and feeling good. The players want to get the playoffs started before they run out of gas.
The determining factor will be what it usually is: good pitching and timely hitting once the playoffs start. Get hot for 11 games and you’re the World Champ.
oh yeah, it was definitely the overmanaging…nothing to do w/ losing Andy for 2 months, AJ pitching terrible, any number of close games when the players failed to execute…yep, it is all on the manager
“The lineup isn?t the problem today. It?s the Yankee starter today and the absence of a bullpen for today?s game. ”
I think all the key BP guys should be avaialble today, except possibly Robertson.
They will get two days rest after today.
Upstate Kate:
Do you actually watch the games or just read the paper?
I simply cant believe – even though Im used to Yankees fans being losers – that anyone would throw AJ under the bus for a terrible season.
To say that Ted was a hero is laughable by itself, but to then call AJ Burnett a loser is unheard of.
The guy was a key to our 2009 World Series! How can you forget that!
AJ Burnett has 2 rings and Ted had ZERO!!!
Given the opportunity to help his team win a World Series, AJ pitched splendid in Game 2. Ted went 2 for 10 in his only World Series.
AJ Burnett – 2 World Series titles – is a true American hero!
And for any of you idiots to call AJ a loser is laughable. That guy made more money and collected more World Series rings in 2009 than any of you idiots will in your lifetimes! American Hero!
Most playoff teams are exhausted and banged up at this point…………I really thought Joe was going to rest his players, but obviously not.
If the Yanks get past the ALDS, I think they’ll be ok, but that won’t be easy…….
I rag on Girardi a lot, but I have to admit, I REALLY wanted him to be the manager. I would watch the Marlins on MLB Extra Innings and Girardi was not the same guy he is with the Yanks. He went much more on instinct/feel/momentum and not just this paint-by-numbers approach he’s taken the past few seasons. And he wasn’t afraid to criticize players if they screwed up badly, either. Now he seemingly walks on eggshells so he doesn’t hurt any feelings.
It’s certainly not all on Girardi, it’s a combination of things. We should have a five to six game lead but we are in the playoffs and off we go!
Hope Grandy isn’t hurt, haven’t heard anything so I guess he is just being rested. Hopefully Thames and the green monster won’t provide any diabolical comedy relief.

he, he
If AJ was 15 -10, instead of the reverse, they are letting A-Rod manage today’s game and using Jeter in right field.
One thing about Girardi, he is systematic. There would be a lot of moaning and groaning on this board if there was a manager who was erratic and made decisions based on gut feeling or intangibles. Every time one of those decisions would go wrong we would really be in for a lot of complaining. It will be hard to find the perfect manager, the one that pleases everyone.
I have actually watched almost every game..what about you? I don’t deny Girardi has made some questionable moves, but he can’t hit or pitch.
Upstate Kate:
I’ve attended over 30 games and watch every other. He doesn’t pitch or hit, but he’s supposed to put them in the best position to win. He has not done that. Look at the Baltimore game they lost two weeks ago. Pinch hitting Thames for Pena with a 1-1 count with 1st base open. Ridiculous. Last night taking Mitre out with two outs. I could go on and on forever with examples. As I have said many times, there WAS a reason why Florida sent him packing. He was the Manager of the Year with the Marlins, and the owner couldn’t stand him.
There are legitimate reasons to question some of the moves of Giirardi.
I do not think there is any manager in all of Baseball who can not be questooned after the fact.
But some here, I am guessing many of them kids, criticise Girardi without understadning facts. And then some adult worrywarts add fuel to the fire. Like some posts above, they say Girardi did not use regular lineups in the past. When the players are hurt what should Girardi do? Grind them to ground and lose them in the playoffs.
Like one above questions why Giradi is using regular stoday. Is it that difficult to understand that today is the last day and then there are two off days, so it is better to play them five innings or so and keep them sharp?
I’m with upstate kate.
The fact of the matter is that if the Yankees don’t go 4 for 34 with RISP, none of your points would hold water. And HE wasn’t the one up there with the bat in his hand.
Second guessing and having all the answers AFTER the fact, is the lowest form of a discussion of baseball. It requires no insight or judgment whatsoever.
