Berkalicious!

ALCS Yankees Baseball

Every now and then the Associated Press has one of these vaguely funny pictures from batting practice. Just a player — in this case Lance Berkman — making an out of the ordinary gesture. Not really funny, but kind of funny, only because it’s different.

Why post this particular picture? Because the Associated Press caption takes it from kind of funny to very funny.

New York Yankees’ Lance Berkman imitates teammate Nick Swisher following a team workout at Yankee Stadium.

  7. Nick in SF October 13th, 2010 at 6:13 pm

Because of the big Lincecum-Halladay matchup?

Because of the [insert Yankee game two starter here] start?

Because you think Cal might knock off U$C this year?

    All of the above?

  8. RhapsodyInBlue October 13th, 2010 at 6:14 pm

The best from Lance is yet to come.

Is it just me, or does it seem like forever since there’s been a ballgame?

    Can’t wait ’till Friday.

I think that as a sign of solidarity, everyone on the team should get a black eye. ;)

I hope so, kd. The UCLA game was a lot more fun than the trip to Reno. Looking forward to some good channel-flipping on Saturday.

Ill probably watch more of the NL action. A lot less stressful since I don’t have a preference on who wins. I’m sure the Yankees will be able to take care of the action without me, I was hardly able to make it through last postseason. I’ve already bought my pepto and tylenol for AJs start though if things go bad ill have to move on to the hard liquor.

    LOL great pic

Buster Olney on with Kay thinks that the Yanks will go with Phil game 2 and Andy game 3…………to split up the lefties and because he thinks Andy wouldn’t be overwhelmed by facing Lee. He did make a point to say that it’s not that Phil’s not confident – but obviously Andy has been there and done that.

Kay thinks the Yankees absolutely need the first 2 in Texas. I don’t – it would be nice, but I’ll take a split.

  22. Joe from Long Island October 13th, 2010 at 6:44 pm

    m – :) , indeed.

  23. SJ44 October 13th, 2010 at 6:45 pm

However it goes, if you are the Yankees, you want to avoid Cliff Lee on the road in a Game 7 at all costs.

Try and get it done in 6 games or less if possible.

  24. kd October 13th, 2010 at 6:52 pm

    sj,

wouldn’t that mean cliff lee pitches on short rest, something he hasn’t done in the past?

i understand it’s the ws, but he’s got a contract to think about.

  25. Carl October 13th, 2010 at 6:55 pm

Buster Olney called the Rays the 1998 Yankees.

    No love.

Mantle may have played 17 years with a torn A.C.L.:

“Her research into Mantle’s injury history rejects his claim that his right knee was operated on after he fell over a drain cover at Yankee Stadium while stopping to let Joe DiMaggio catch a fly ball in the 1951 World Series. When Mantle had surgery two years later, there was no established procedure to fix a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which she believes Mantle played on for the rest of his career.

The orthopedic surgeon who analyzed the case history that Leavy compiled said it was likely that Mantle compensated for the torn A.C.L. with what the orthopedist called “neuromuscular genius.”

this assertion that Burnett can’t pitch to Posada is ridiculous.

On April 17th, against the Texas Rangers, Burnett threw 7 shutout innings, 6 hits, 2 walks, 6 K’s.

His catcher that day? Jorge Posada

Burnett is so inconsistent it doesn’t matter who is catching him, if he sucks that day, he sucks. His higher ERA with Posada is more indicative of the point in the season when he pitched to Posada and nothing else.

  28. MG October 13th, 2010 at 7:01 pm

Burnett only has two pitches except for a change up he uses about once a game.

If he can’t find home plate or throws meat ball fastballs that miss the glove by a foot it’s completely on him, not the guy behind the plate.

I will officially make my prediction for the Two Thousand Ten American League Championship Series tomorrow .

Definitely agree……even better, try to get it done in 5….I want to avoid the chance of having to face Lee on short rest on the road in Game 6 (I know he has not done it before)…..only one time vs. Lee……and only 3 times rtotal vs. Lee & Wilson….then Lee dons Pinstripes in 2011.

  31. MG October 13th, 2010 at 7:04 pm

and don’t give me the ‘Posada can’t handle the breaking balls in the dirt’ either. Burnett hasn’t had a decent breaking pitch most of the season and the places he throws them sometimes couldn’t be caught if there were 3 catchers behind the plate.

I hope he pitches great in the ALCS but it has nothing to do with the catcher, Cervelli isn’t an upgrade over Posada even though he will probably catch because Girardi is stubborn.

  32. SJ44 October 13th, 2010 at 7:04 pm

Lee would be on regular rest for Game 7.

From YesNetwork: It’s widely anticipated the Yankees will make a major push to sign Lee, a free agent after this season, for 2011 and beyond. Standing in a celebratory clubhouse at Tropicana Field, Rangers general managing partner Chuck Greenberg told reporters not so fast. “We made clear the day we got the team that we want Cliff to stay here,” Greenberg said. “He likes it here. He’s comfortable here.”

As Mr. Roarke used to say…..Welcome to Fantasy Island!!

” C.J. Wilson and Colby Lewis will pitch Games 1 and 2 of the American League Championship Series at Rangers Ballpark, and Cliff Lee and Tommy Hunter will start Games 3 and 4 when the series shifts to Yankee Stadium.”
