A friendly rivalry
Mark Teixeira and Michael Young remained very close friends even after Teixeira was traded from the Rangers to the Braves, and Teixeira said earlier this week that he texted Young during the division series to say that he hoped that the two friends would have the chance to meet in the ALCS.
When Young was asked about that, he said, “It’s going to be fun. I love Tex. Can’t say enough great things about him. Once the game starts (though) … it’s Rangers-Yankees.”
What did the two say to each other in their texts? Young grinned.
“He invited himself to shack up at my house,” Young said. “I told him I had no room.”

I thought the hero dialogue was really interesting and good late night fare. I guess I would have to think that having started it with such a highly controversial statement as:
“Mission accomplished Chile! The last miner has been rescued. That’s just so great”.
Chad – any truth to this? Mike Quade is going to have his interim tag removed and will be named the Cubs’ next manager.
Now, this winter decoration could stay out all season, though it’s more expensive than the other one. Cuter, though. Especially if you like snowmen.

I’m sorry, but I have to share these – they’re amusing. This is the last one today, no matter how many show up on my facebook page.

Boomer was a true piece of work.
Whomever brought it up last thread, if there is a rainout in either Game 3 or 4, we might be able to not use AJ at all.
I wonder who has the final say in postseason. In the regular season, it’s the home team that has the say prior to lineup card exchanges.
Id imagine the league has the say on postseason games. If not, though, we should just postpone our game if there is any rain on the radar.
I think it would be funny if Tex had a bunch of luggage dropped off at Young’s house, with a note, I’ll be here soon, but not show up.
When Young opened the luggage there’d be a ton of “I love NY” tee shirts.
I’m not 100% sure, but, I believe it’s MLB decision on PS games. I’ll see if I can find out.
Who Decides?
•During the regular season, the home team decides whether or not to call off the game if rain is falling before the game starts and the umpires decide the game’s status after the first pitch has been thrown. During the postseason, this decision is made by MLB officials. The decision to call a game depends on the current conditions as well as the forecasted weather.

Sandberg to be the bench coach. Not a good spot for Quade with Rino looking over his shoulder. The Cubbies woes will continue with a new manager hire and an instant controversy.
Oops!
That last post of mine would be directed to Sam! Speed-reading will kill ya every time!!!
Hopeful-Lee Cliff already knows where he wants to be and is just waiting until the time is right. The Rangers have an edge because he’s already on their team, but we’ll see.

Speed reading or speed writing?
I read the chat recap. I just don’t believe Phil’s home/road splits were the reason for pitching him in game two as clearly he can pitch at home. Joe apparently told Francesca why the flip-flop, but to me it’s obvious: the Yankees want Andy lined up to pitch a game 7.

Be even funnier to have the note read, ‘Tell your wife to get busy’ and the suit cases are filled with the dirty laundry.
Girardi, per Francesa, wanted to split up lefty, righty, lefty, righty and he likes Andy at home against Lee in game 3, and game 7 if necessary.
Of course if Cliff Lee already knows where he is going in 2011, he might have to find an extra gear to beat the Yanks in order to remove any off-season questions of him not putting forth his best effort against the team he planned to sign long-term with.
WindOuttaYourSails’d
Dirty laundry – Wow, that would be a gas. Better be things he never wants to see again, Young’s wife may just burn them.
OK – Later folks.

In this case, it was speed reading. But I’ve also been guilty of and cursed by speed writing!
Here’s my menu for the ALCS
Game 1: Grilled chicken strips, mashed potatoes, brown gravy, and corn. Chocolate chip cookies for dessert
Game 2: Chicken and melted cheese flat bread from Taco Bell. Bagel with Phil adelphia cream cheese for dessert
Game 3: Cajun chicken in a salad. Bananas Foster for desert.
Game 4: Oven roasted chicken sandwich from Subway. Sandwich is so big, so no desert. Apple Juice will be had to drink.
If I need to go more than 4, I’ll add to it.
If one is relying on Subway and Taco Bell in a 4 game stretch where exactly is this bananas foster coming from?
And who eats a bagel with cream cheese for desert?
Bizarre
Trisha:
Yankees in 6
Phillies in 6
bagel & cream cheese is cheesecake without the sugar and eggs.
Doreen,
I like the snowman. The Yankee Stadium one featuring the ice skaters outside the stadium might have been a tad unrealistic. LOL.
Does Chicken Fried Steak count?
Wouldn’t melted items be more appropriate for one of AJ’s meltdowns?
Pretty funny piece from the “It is High” folks; what if the Yankees-Rangers storylines were reversed??

My mom has agreed to provide the dessert. Bagel and cream cheese, never tried cream cheese. This way if I don’t like it, not a whole lot lost. As I can throw it away and still contribute to the cause.

OMG! Iglesias fielded a ground ball behind his back because he could!! WHEW! Never done before in baseball history!!!!!! Right Gammo and Klaw!!!
Wow! Gammons AINT the only brown-nosing arse-smooching sycophant of the Red Sox!! Who’da thunk it!
In all seriousness, Keith Law is a renowned Red Sox sycophant.
KPB-love your menu!!
Big AL – Thanks for the information on rainouts in the postseason.
Yesterday I was in a cafe and they were selling Grilled San-Cheez in honor of the Giants’ Jonathan Sanchez.
I took a picture!
(someday I’ll post it
)
Melted items does sound good for an AJ start. But you’ve got to have the apple juice. Maybe ill have a grilled cheese or something.
Totally off topic, but I thought it was funny:
I just got my latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, and according to The Shaw Report, Minka and Jeter are “in” Joanna and Swisher are “five minutes ago” and A-Rod and anyone are “out”
I think I just found the most pointless video ever posted on youtube:

I love this scouting report from a TX perspective:
http://dallas.sbnation.com/tex.....cs-preview
From a FIP standpoint, it’s a very close match-up. In fact, once you consider the fact that he plays half his games in a severe hitters’ park, it likely favors Wilson from that angle. I’ve mentioned Sabathia’s overratedness this season already. However, this may, also, be overrating Wilson. While his 3.58 FIP is very nice, his 4.20 xFIP suggest he’s been very lucky on the rate of his fly balls that haven’t turned in to home runs. I expressed concern over this in the ALDS preview and he went out and dominated game two, anyway. This makes game one a huge matchup, as there is a pretty big question mark (relative to most players) next to Wilson. He may be as good as CC Sabathia and the Rangers may have the edge in game one, or Texas may be pretty big underdogs in their first game at home. A lot of this series rides on how much truth there was to C.J. Wilson’s HR/FB rate in 2010.
Sabathia is a high strikeout guy, getting more than 7.5 per nine innings, but he also gives up nearly three walks per nine; he’s vulnerable to the free pass
Phil Hughes is a solid young pitcher with a bright future, but is clearly the weakest pitcher both in terms of 2010 and track record in this series outside of game four. He’s a very extreme fly ball pitcher that will be starting games in Arlington, a tough order, and also a good bet to hand out a few walks. Hughes is an almost-all-fastballs kind of guy, throwing his four and two seamers combined nearly two thirds of the time, both sitting in the low 90s. He fits with them a cutter around a fifth of the time that comes in about five miles per hour slower and has, very little movement
One, of course, is the decisive game. The other is a game on the road that happens to favor the Rangers. Pettitte is a post season legend, but in 2010 he was “merely” decent
****
So, CC is overrated, Phil is not as good as Colby Lewis (and he has a very good K to BB ratio, so huh?) and Andy was merely decent this year.
This is the kind of analysis coming out of TX?
That’s it, game 4 at 4, Large cheese pie, half sauage.

Let’s hope we can send that article back for where it came from, with a huge smilely face on it, “From New York with Love, Stick It”
Minka has gotten a lot of pub lately… With the Esquire issue naming her this years sexiest. She is hot in the photo layout… The Captain better get his act together, she’s the goods!!!!!!!!

Mom sounds nice.
And you do see see cheese plates offered for desert in nicer restaurants but cream cheese is generally not one of the options. You might be setting yourself up for disappointment.
You could add maple syrup to the cream cheese though. Or fruit.
Baked Alaska sounds fitting for the AJ meal.
A terrific matchup in the ALCS and NLCS are about to begin, and Keith Law’s top priority is still to arse-smooch the Red Sox. Im never amazed at the depths that they sink to.
cr9,
follow the money. he’s an espn employee. enough said.
wallacematthews Yanks hitting coach KLong on C Lee: he’s not invincible. He’s not the Messiah
Deion Branch’s ’11 pay reduced
The restructuring reduces Branch’s 2011 base salary from $5.95 million and puts it closer in line with Wes Welker’s base salary of $2.15 million in 2011
__
LOL! So Deion Branch & agent are another 2 morons that bought into what the Patriots and the media sell. In the NFL, you take as much guaranteed money as possible…..except when playing for the Pats.

at least, not until next season. Everyone on this board will agree with that….
until his first loss.
Even Koufax lost games, and was as close to automatic as they come.
Lee is not Koufax, and the Yankees have hit him before.
Get games 1 & 2, and win the series in 6.

How are you feeling? Hope the upset stomach is all gone.”
Thank you so much for asking. Thankfully that episode is done. But I have to say, seriously, for anyone who is in the middle of that kind of horrid non-stop vomiting (food poisoning, virus, listening to Don Orsillo), there are meds your doctor can order that stops it in its tracks.
(What got my stomach most recently was going to pick up my car from the garage where it was being fixed and finding that the radio and clock no longer work and not having the guy believe me when I told him they worked when I brought them in.
Another not-so-funny story. I went to Acapulco and came back with Montezuma’s Revenge. If you’ve never had it, trust me, you never want to have it. Regular old food poisoning (I’ve had that also) is a piece of cake compared to Montezuma’s Revenge. I was bed-bound for about five straight days, and 24-7 I was being stripped of my dignity plus anything else that I could be stripped of. I was so weak I couldn’t get out of bed. My then-doctor told me to try rice and apple juice. That immediately went to waste, literally and figuratively. On about the fourth day I called again, begging for another solution. He decided to call in a prescription. I took one of the pills and immediately all of my problems ended.
Why in the name of sweet Jesus above didn’t that complete idiot give me the pill from the beginning? I told him where I had been and what was happening. That’s when he became my then-doctor!
Some people always see the glass as half empty, and are always looking for the negative things in life to happen, rather than looking at life in a positive light.
Everyone loved CC when he was signed, and didn’t jump off any bridges when he lost. I don’t expect the Yankees fans to be down on Lee, if he signs with us, simply because he loses some games. Not going to happen, except from those few that dwell in that negative light.
About game food.
The official meal, if you’re joining the food winners’ club, is chicken. It has to be eaten at every meal of the ACLS. You can have it any way you want, but it has to be chicken. Chicken-fried steak does NOT satisfy the requirements.
About the desserts, etc. They are a nicety to add to the meal, though it can’t hurt to do it.
I don’t think the baseball gods would find it funny if someone ate melted stuff for AJ only because we are supposed to be showing our support for our guys by doing this, not poking fun at them. JMO
BIG AL
How’s Ace? Is he going to have surgery?
Trisha:
I would like to enter your prediction contest.
I am picking the Yankees in 6 games.
I am picking the Phillies in 6 games.
CC first game as a Yank was funny.
Getting roughed up by the Orioles…sitting on the bench with that big pillow on his belly.
He was a bust by the 4th inning in here.
trisha
It wasn’t meant to poke fun at AJ. I just really like the Chicken melt flat bread. If it calms the baseball gods, I can switch it to another game.
CC didnt pitch all that great in the first half of 2009 because he was overworked carrying the Brewers to the postseason the year before.
KPB -
Alfredo is doing well. At this time no surgery has been scheduled, nor is it being considered. As with all things in life, things are subject to change. His back is doing well, and the regiment he’s on is helping get him back to where he needs to be.
Big Al, thanks for the recap of Joe’s reasoning behind pitching Phil/Andy in games 2 and 3.
I’m guessing Yankee blogs are a lot fairer to the Rangers than that blog was to the Yankees, lol.
KLong is right. If the Yankees get beat by Lee, so be it, but you can bet they are not going up to the plate scared.
Okay kids, here it is so far. As always, check on me to make sure I got your predictions in right!

Trisha – Thanks again for doing all the predictions and organizing the series foods. Much appreciated.
Oh KPB I wasn’t talking about your menu! I thought I saw some posts that were actually talking about melted items in a sense of making fun of AJ. I thought your menu sounded danged good!
BIG AL
Thanks. I hope he recovers and comes back soon.
Betsy -
I read the entire Rangers article, and yes they were more than negative towards some Yankees, they also thought we were better in some areas.
I agree with you, for the most part the article was heavily slanted, but, I would expect nothing less, considering the source.
CR9 – my pleasure. Anything for our Yankees!
Aceves could have been really useful this year. If Ace had been around much of the yar, we may have even been able to stretch him out in the last couple months of the season so that he could have started in the postseason. GBS Ace!
KPB, about the bagel and cream cheese – if you put some grape jelly on it, it’s really pretty good! Toast the bagel, of course.
I won’t be going for the cheesecake so I will do some version like yours, maybe the bagel and cream cheese thing.
trisha
It’s all good.
The posts you are referring to started after my menu. I hadn’t realized my “mistake” until after I posted it.

I’m making Philly cheese steaks, but I’ll use chicken in place of steak. It that a bad thing to do, you know, Philly steak?
Trisha
I think the melted food is okay, maybe we do all the melting then AJ won’t:) I’m still doing the apple juice.
Oh and my predictions
Giants in 7
Yankees in 5
Could you do a Phil-ly cheesesteak for phil? Or might that benefit the phillies? Or westshore pizza which is philadelphia pizza.
Yankees in 5.
