Pregame ceremonies announced in Texas

In what must have been the easiest decision of all time, Rangers president Nolan Ryan will throw out the first pitch of tomorrow’s ALCS opener in Texas. He’ll throw to fellow Rangers Hall of Famer Jim Sundberg.

Texas country artist Stoney Larue will sing the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless American will be performed by Michael Borts, who has performed the anthem at Rangers games for more than two decades.

For Saturday’s Game 2, Ferguson Jenkins will throw the first pitch, also with Sundberg catching. Country artist Steve Wariner will sing the National Anthem and another country singer, Neal McCoy, will perform God Bless America.

Rally towels are being given away both nights.

Obstructed view seats remain for both games. Standing room tickets are sold out for Game 1 but remain for Game 2.

I see M mentioned Keith Law.

Someone posted his ALDS scouting report and he said that Phil has a flat FB, lol. I wonder what he’s thinking now.

He did compliment Banuelos – someone posted the Insider link – so that was nice.

    Oh, goodie – country music.

    Yee-haw.

  3. CR9 October 14th, 2010 at 8:06 pm

In terms of age, LHP or RHP, injury history, statistics, leadership, ability to pitch on 3 days rest, world series rings:

    Sabathia, Lincecum, Lee, Halladay!

  4. CR9 October 14th, 2010 at 8:09 pm

Giuseppe Franco – Since this afternoon, I have dropped my joking about heroes and heroism. But in all seriousness, the courage it takes to do what you did is heroic.

0 Days, 23 Hours, and 47 Minutes until Game 1 of the ALCS

  8. Giuseppe Franco October 14th, 2010 at 8:14 pm

    I appreciate the sentiment.

But I was just in survival mode for awhile. Most everyone else would have done the same if they had encountered a situation similar to mine.

  9. YanksfaninPA October 14th, 2010 at 8:18 pm

    what time is first pitch?

  10. Professorg October 14th, 2010 at 8:24 pm

Well bust my boots….what kind a cotton pickin game is this without our beloved former President,
W, throwin out the first pitch. Oh, I see, we’re savin him for the World Series. Well what about Laura?

  11. Giuseppe Franco October 14th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

Nobody wants to read your politics. Keep that crap off this board.

  12. blake October 14th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

wonder if they’ll have the radar gun on Nolan’s first pitch.

How do you rank Halladay, Lee, Lincecum and Sabathia? Anyone objective out there?

    ==================

Right now, today if I had my choice:

    1. Lee: Without a doubt in a big game.
    2. Halladay: Tough, steady. Very tough.
    3. Lincecum: Still up and coming, can be off or lights out on any given day.
    4. CC: Solid but imo not lights out consistently.

All are ‘ACES’ and very close to one another.

  14. blake October 14th, 2010 at 8:33 pm

    1. Halladay
    2. Sabathia/Lee
    4. Lincecum

  15. Giuseppe Franco October 14th, 2010 at 8:37 pm

I’d like to save all the Cliff Lee talk for a couple of months until he’s introduced at Yankee Stadium donning the pinstripes for the first time.

Until then, I’m pretty tired of hearing every baseball discussion centering around him.

  16. Betsy October 14th, 2010 at 8:39 pm

    Amazingg how underrated CC is

  17. Betsy October 14th, 2010 at 8:40 pm

Lincecum has all of one post-season start. In the meantime, CC carried the Brewers and has carried the Yankees.

  18. blake October 14th, 2010 at 8:44 pm

People are just putting too much stock into CC’s start last week (which wasn’t that bad).

They seem to forget the dominant outing he had in Toronto the week before against a very good offense and how he dominated the post season last year pitching on short rest multiple times. He’s right up there with Halladay and Lee, and for a playoff series maybe even more valuable because of his ability to pitch on 3 days.

Lincecum has to show that he can shut down a team in a big game that can actually hit before I’m putting him in those guys class.

  19. m October 14th, 2010 at 8:44 pm

Lincecum over CC? I don’t know. How would he fair in a better league and much tougher division?

One thing that CC may have over all of them is some Wily Coyote like Pettitte. Bend, but not break when he doesn’t have his best stuff.

  20. West Coast Yankee Fan October 14th, 2010 at 8:51 pm

I don’t think CC is under appreciated at all. Everyone knows how good is is, that he is one of the top pitchers in the game. I haven’t heard one analyst or columnist say otherwise. He’s a stud. He’s just not considered by some to be the best of the best when compared to Halladay and Lee and that’s a reasonable position.

  21. Professorg October 14th, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Giuseppe, I’m getting pretty tired of you tellin us what we can and can’t talk about. Who appointed you our Lord and master?

If the pitching is what we hope it will be and our bats continue to stay hot, I think a big issue is going to be Posada’s ability to throw an occasional runner out. I mean it looks like these guys won’t think twice about stealing 3rd.

  22. Betsy October 14th, 2010 at 8:53 pm

West Coast, IMO, CC is right up there. No one compares to Halladay, but after that, CC can hold his own. Sorry, I disagree; he is underappreciated.

  23. m October 14th, 2010 at 8:54 pm

    Nobody’s figured out who’s 10-1, 1.35 ERA, great K:BB ratio?

Nit sure if it’s all the starters left, game 1 starters, but the pitching has been bery, bery good.

  24. West Coast Yankee Fan October 14th, 2010 at 8:58 pm

Tampa’s bespectacled manager was brain dead – any manager worth his salt would run, run and run some more with Posada behind the plate and dare him to throw them out.

    ******************************

What is your proof Sabathia is under appreciated? I don’t see it at all. Have you been watching MLB? He gets nothing but praise as one of the best pitchers in the game. He does more than hold his own, but right now if I want a chance at a shut down, complete game shutout – I would take Cliff Lee over Sabathia. That doesn’t mean I don’t think CC is a great pitcher. He is.

  26. m October 14th, 2010 at 9:04 pm

Gotta keep them off the bases. Texas is very aggressive.

I think pat previously posted a link about the Rangers sitting dead red. We’ll see if they revert to their free-swinging ways or not.

  27. GoldGlove9486 October 14th, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Ron Washington today: “The Yankees lineup powerful. They can pop the ball out the ballpark.” Who would win in a debate? Washington or Jerry Manuel?

  28. Betsy October 14th, 2010 at 9:06 pm

I don’t have to give you proof, West Coast. It’s my opinion …….and why are you getting defensive? I didn’t direct any of my comments to you.
Ok, so you would pick Lee – that’s fine.

  29. GreenBeret7 October 14th, 2010 at 9:07 pm

Perhaps if pitchers would do their job in keeping base runners in check a little better, Posada/Cervelli would have a better chance to through out runners. Bench/Fisk/Munson/Berra/Sundberg couldn’t throw out runners that get running starts.

Maybe Ivan Rodriguez had the right idea….call nothing but fastballs to make the numbers look good. Mauer had little chance in the ALDS for the same reason…the pitchers ignored the base runners.

  30. m October 14th, 2010 at 9:07 pm

I meant to say aggressive at the plate. But yes, we saw how they were aggressive on the basepaths, too.

Washington must be sick that they could sweep. He was forced to show the aggressive running card in that series. I think he would’ve preferred keeping it tucked in his back pocket, but he needed it to win the LDS.

  31. West Coast Yankee Fan October 14th, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Betsy I wasn’t being defensive at all, just interested in what you based your opinion on that’s all. I respect what you have to say. I just honestly haven’t heard anyone disparage Sabathia or say he was anything other than a great pitcher and an ace.

  32. GreenBeret7 October 14th, 2010 at 9:10 pm

    to ***through out*** runners

    throw out

  33. Betsy October 14th, 2010 at 9:11 pm

WC, it’s the impression I get. For a great pitcher who’s acknowledged as an ace, IMO he’s underappreciated. Look how many folks would pick Lincecum in a big game over CC – that’s ridiculous. I just don’t think CC gets the kudos that many aces get.

  34. West Coast Yankee Fan October 14th, 2010 at 9:13 pm

Good call on pitchers doing their part to keep the runners close. You have to know Girardi, Peña and Eiland are working on all of it. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think keeping Andrus off base is a key; I think he will find a way to get in scoring position with Young, Hamilton and Guerrero coming up.

  35. m October 14th, 2010 at 9:17 pm

I thought it was a pretty good question. The poll results show you how close CC, Halladay,& Lee are rated.

  36. stuckey99 October 14th, 2010 at 9:18 pm

“Under-appreciated”: Some people don’t think as highly of them as I do.

“Overrated”: Some people think he’s better than I do.

And this is no shot or snark at any one in particular. It seems seems to me to be the common use of the terms.

  37. West Coast Yankee Fan October 14th, 2010 at 9:19 pm

Well I agree with you Betsy, I would take Sabathia over Lincecum, I said that. I think Lincecum’s got great stats though so I can understand his appeal to many.

  38. stuckey99 October 14th, 2010 at 9:21 pm

    1.) Halladay
    2.) Sabathia
3.) Lee (he’d be higher of we did the “just postseason” list_
4.) Lincecum (may move up in the future with more years under his belt. He found a way to compensate for loss of velocity this year, but how he copes and the league adjusts is worth watching).

But most of all, who the hell cares?

Gimme a the rings, and other teams can have the individual awards and media adulation.
